Police Report: December 24-30

December 30: 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 6:30 pm officers received a call of a theft that just occurred from Party Time Liquors. The complainant gave a description of the suspect. Officers canvassed the area and stopped a man who was positively identified as the individual who committed the theft. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Arundel Road & 32nd Street: At about 11:50 pm officers were patrolling the area of the Queenstown Apartments when they observed a man riding a bicycle and acting suspiciously. The man was stopped for a field interview. During the interview the officers found him to be in possession of .6 grams of crack cocaine having a street value of $120. He was arrested, charged with possession of a CDS and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Police Report: December 22-24

Monday December 22: 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a stolen bicycle. The owner of the bike had left it unsecured on a loading dock over the weekend. When he returned for it early Monday morning he discovered it had been stolen. Tuesday December 23: 4200 block of 34th Street: At about 5:10 pm officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. There were two victims who collectively told the officers that they we approached by two unidentified black males, one of whom was armed with a knife, the other with a pipe. The two suspects ordered the victims to the ground and when they complied the suspects stole their cell phones. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): At about 9:20 pm officers responded for the report of several disorderly juveniles. Police Report: December 19-22

Friday December 19: Queens Chapel Road @ 27th Street: At about 7:05 pm officers effected a traffic stop on a vehicle with no tags displayed. The vehicle was found to be unregistered and uninsured. The driver was cited for the violations and the vehicle was impounded. Saturday December 20: 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8:40 am officers observed an individual drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way without incident. Queens Chapel Road @ Buchanan Street: At about 10:30 am officers responded for a pedestrian struck. Investigation revealed that Nissan Titan pickup truck was turning right out of the Queens/Chillum Shopping Center onto southbound Queens Chapel Road. The driver of the truck failed to see an elderly gentleman who was crossing Queens Chapel Road in the cross walk. The driver struck and ran over the man. December 16: 2500 block of 25th Street: At about 10:30 am officers took a report of a motor vehicle theft. The victim reported that sometime during the previous evening person(s) stole her black 2003 Chevy Tahoe with Maryland tags 774M535 that had been parked at her residence. A canvass of the area for evidence and/or witnesses was negative. December 17: 4500 block of 32nd Street: At about 10:50 am officers responded for an unknown trouble call. When the officers arrived they found two women (mother and daughter) engaged in a heated argument with a man who was their husband/father. Once the officers got the argument under control they learned that the father had forced entry into the residence through a bathroom window and attempted to leave with various items. The husband/father had a protective/stay away court order placed against him on December 10th and knew he was not to return to the property. Police Report: December 15

3400 block of Eastern Avenue: At about 6 pm officers working the power shift responded for the report of individuals trespassing in an abandoned house. The officers found two individuals inside the house and arrested them for trespassing. Public Works was contacted and advised of the need to re-secure the house. 4300 block of 54th Street (Bladensburg): At about 7:50 pm officers were called to assist Bladensburg PD with a shooting/hostage barricade situation. MRPD officers assisted BPD with establishing a secure perimeter around a private residence. After a brief standoff a subject surrendered to police. MRPD officers assisted with ensuring that the residence was safe and immediately thereafter returned to patrol in Mount Rainier. 3700 block of 36th Street: At about 10:30 pm officers responded for the report of the sound of shots fired. Police Report: December 12-14

Friday December 12: 4000 block of Shepherd Street: At about 10:10 am the victim of a hit and run accident came into the MRPD station to report the incident. The victim stated that a gold colored Honda (no further description) struck her legally parked vehicle and fled the scene without stopping. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of unknown trouble. When the officers arrived they were met by a male subject who told them that four individuals in a black vehicle attempted to rob him of money and a winning lotto scratch off ticket. The victim gave a detailed description of the four individuals and the vehicle and the officers began a search for them. A vehicle matching the victim’s description was located shortly thereafter. The officers stopped the vehicle and brought the victim to the scene of the stop. The victim was able to positively identify the vehicle and all four occupants as the ones who attempted to rob him. Police Report: December 11

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 5:30 pm officers effected a traffic stop on a vehicle for various traffic violations. A check of the driver revealed that he had an open warrant through Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear for a criminal court hearing. He was arrested without incident and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Queenstown Drive: At about 7:10 pm officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was approached by three black males one of whom struck him several times with a baseball bat. The three individuals then took the victim’s wallet, stole a small quantity of US Currency and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was unable to give a clear description of his attackers. The victim was examined by fire/rescue personnel and found not to have serious injuries. A canvass of the area for the three individuals proved negative.

Police Report: December 9

2900 block of Allison Street: At about 7 am officers responded for the report of a male individual looking into a woman’s apartment window. The woman advised communications that she witnessed a black male looking at her through one of her apartment windows. She said that he went to another window where he tried to get the window open to gain entry into the apartment. She was able to provide a detailed description of the man and hide in her bathroom until police arrived. When the officers arrived on the scene they found the man outside the victim’s apartment window exactly where she said he would be. When the man saw the officers he attempted to flee on foot but was caught immediately. He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted burglary, trespassing, possession of CDS paraphernalia and stalking. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Police Report: December 8

4100 block of 31st Street: At about 9:15 am officers took a report of a found missing person who was reported missing on November 21st. The MP was located in good health at a shelter in DC. PG CID was notified and the MP was removed from the NCIC missing persons database. 4200 block 28th Street: At about 5:30 pm officers were contacted by DC police who advised that their officers had recovered a 1998 Honda Accord originally reported stolen from the 4200 block of 28th Street on October 6th, 2008. The recovery location was Naylor Court and O Street NW. Both license plates were still attached, the vehicle was not drivable and no arrests were made. The victim/owner of the vehicle was notified of the recovery.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

I have it on good authority that Santa’s annual visit to the Great City of Mount Rainier will take place on Saturday December 20th beginning at 7 pm. Santa will put aside his sleigh and reindeer for the evening and rely on the Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire Department to escort him about the City. Children young and old should listen not for the prancing and pawing of each little hoof but for the siren and horns of the big Pierce fire truck!

Police Report: December 5-8

Friday December 5: 4300 block of 28th Place: At about 8:30 pm officers responded for the report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was unloading groceries from his vehicle when he was approached by two black males in all dark clothing one of whom was armed with a black handgun. The suspects ordered the victim to turn around and when he did so, one suspect went through his pockets and took several items of personal property. The two suspects then fled the area towards DC in white sedan. Saturday December 6: 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8:30 am officers on patrol observed a man consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. He was stopped, checked for outstanding warrants (none), issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. 4000 block of 35th Street: At about 7 am officers responded for the report of a stolen vehicle. The owner told the officers that at about 6:45 am he went out and started his 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with Maryland tags 77170CC and left it running with the keys in the ignition while he went back into his residence. He came back out about five minutes later to find that the vehicle had been stolen. The vehicle was entered into the NCIC stolen vehicle database and the owner was issued a state citation for unattended motor vehicle. 3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 3:15 pm an MRPD parking enforcement officer cited and impounded a vehicle that had been previously marked for 48-hour towing because it was displaying expired DC registration plates. 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11): At about 1:10 am officers responded for the report of a theft. 2900 block of Allison Street: At about 1:30 pm officers received a call from an individual who told them that she had recovered her 1988 Honda Civic she originally reported stolen from the 2900 block of Allison Street on August 2nd. She said she found it on August 3rd and forgot to notify police. 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): At about 4:20 am officers responded for the report of a theft. The on duty clerk told the officers that a male individual entered the store, went behind the counter and stole several packs of cigarettes. The suspect then fled on foot out of the store and disappeared into the Queenstown apartments complex. A canvass of the area for the individual proved negative. 4700 block of 30th Street: At about 4:45 am officers responded to serve a criminal arrest warrant. The officers were met by an individual who had obtained the warrant for his domestic partner based on an earlier altercation that occurred in Bladensburg. Monday December 1: No significant incidents to report. Tuesday December 2: 3800 block of 34th Street: At about 6:10 pm officers responded for the report of an attempted armed robbery. The victim told the officers that a black male between the ages of 20 and 35 walked into the store holding a handgun in his left hand. The individual walked behind the counter and attempted to open the cash register. He was unable to open the register and immediately fled the store on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was unable to provide the officers with any additional information or description. 4600 block of 25th Street: At about 5 pm officers responded for the report of a missing person. The parents of a 15 year old juvenile female reported their daughter missing and told officers that she failed to return home after school. Wednesday November 26: One Municipal Place: At about 1:45 pm officers stopped a juvenile for drinking in public. The juvenile was charged with the violation along with disorderly conduct. He was released to his parents pending action by the juvenile court. Thursday November 27: 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11:45 pm stopped an individual for drinking in public. While the officers were in the process of charging him for the alcohol, violation they discovered he had an open warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear on a contempt of court charge. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
