Police Report: July 30

One Municipal Place : At about 7:50 am officers patrolling the plaza in front of City Hall observed an individual drinking an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. 2400 block of Chillum Road : At about 2:30 pm officers were conducting a laser speed enforcement detail and stopped a silver Chrysler Pacifica that they recorded as traveling 50 MPH in the 35 MPH speed zone. The vehicle did not immediately stop and continued to travel at a high rate on Chillum Road, finally pulling into the Shopper’s Food parking lot where it stopped. As the officers approached the vehicle the front seat passenger got out of the car and fled the area on foot. He driver also got out and the officers were able to detain him before he could get away. The officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and also noticed that the driver was very nervous. Police Report: July 23-27

Thursday July 23rd : 4000 block of 34th Street : At about 3 pm officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The officers’ investigation showed that those responsible forced entry into the home through a window. A personal computer and a quantity of US Currency were stolen. The scene was processed and no witnesses could be located. Friday July 24th : 2700 block of Webster Street : At about 1:35 am officers responded for the report of a mother/son domestic dispute. The mother told the officers that her 33 year old son was on drugs and was holding her hostage in her apartment. The officers verified that no violence had taken place and the dispute was resolved when the son agreed to leave the residence and not return. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Officers were notified by Sheriff’s Office personnel that the 40 year old man reported missing by his mother on July 20th had been located safe and sound. Police Report: July 22

3400 block of Eastern Avenue : At about noon officers responded for the report of an attempted suicide. Their investigation revealed that a 22 year old female made small superficial cuts to her wrist and stated to the officers that she wanted to kill herself. They also learned that she has a history of depression and is supposed to take medications to relieve her symptoms which she had not taken for some time. The wounds were not serious or life threatening. She was taken to Prince George’s Hospital for treatment and psychological evaluation.

Police Report: July 20-21

Monday July 20th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10:30 am officers responded for the report of a missing person. The missing person mother told the officers that her 40 year old son had not returned home since she last saw him around 9 pm on July 14th. She said that her son suffers from schizophrenia and has not taken his medication. She also said that he has gone missing in the past but never for this long. His information was entered into the NCIC missing persons database and a lookout was distributed to surrounding law enforcement agencies. 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 12:40 pm officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his 2001 Chevrolet, DC tags CM6410, in the 2700 block of Upshur Street the evening of July 19th and when he returned for it he discovered that it had been stolen. There was no record of the vehicle being impounded or repossessed. The surrounding area was checked for evidence/witnesses

Friday July 17th : One Municipal Place : At about 10:40 pm officers on patrol observed an individual consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. Saturday July 18th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 12:15 am officers responded for a domestic dispute. When the officers arrived they spoke with the individuals involved and determined that the situation was an argument only; and no physical violence had occurred. The parties were advised of their legal options. 30th and Upshur Streets : At about 6 am officers responded to a call for a motor vehicle collision. Their investigation showed that a minor collision occurred and an unoccupied vehicle was struck. Sunday July 19th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 12:30 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that she finished pumping gas and went inside the station to pay for it. While she was in the station a gray 4-doo

4400 block of 28th Street : At about 10:40 am officers responded for the report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his 1998 Nissan Maxima by his residence on May 1st. He had not moved the vehicle since then because it needed repair. When he went out to his car this morning he discovered that person(s) unknown had stolen the rear Maryland tag, 3DXR38. No evidence as to those responsible for the theft could be found at the scene.

Police Report: July 14

4000 block of 34th Street : At about 9:10 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between July 13th at 9 pm and the time of the report, person(s) unknown stole both Maryland tags off her vehicle. The officers found no evidence or witnesses to the crime. 2200 block of Varnum Street : At about 10 pm officers observed a man sitting on the curb in front of Family Dollar drinking an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for drinking in public and sent on his way. 30th Street and Arundel Road : At about 7 pm officers responded for the report of a large fight. When they arrived they saw a large group of individuals who were leaving the scene in multiple directions. They were unable to determine who was involved and the nature of the fight. 4200 block of 29th Street : At about 12:30 pm officers received a call for a suspicious individual knocking on doors in the neighborhood. The reporting person gave a good description of the individual and the officers were able to locate him quickly. He told the officers that he was a Mount Rainier resident and in the area soliciting for his private lawn service business. Criminal warrant checks were negative and he was advised of the City’s solicitation permit requirements and sent on his way. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 11:00 pm power shift officers were conducting a bicycle patrol in the area when they observed a suspicious occupied vehicle with no head lights on. When the officers approached the vehicle they observed one of the passengers stick a bag of suspected marijuana in his pants. After further investigation the man was found to be in possession of marijuana as well as controlled narcotic prescription pills that were not his. He was subsequently arrested, charged

July 13th : Nothing significant to report July 14th (early morning) : 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 2:00 am power shift officers observed an unmarked gray Dodge tow truck towing a gray 1995 Chevy Tahoe and driving erratically. Officers attempted to stop the truck, but when the driver saw the officers he accelerated to a high rate of speed and fled into DC. The officers lost the truck just over the border DC but did see the driver of the truck stop momentarily next to a white Dodge Caravan that had chrome 22” wheels. Interestingly enough, the Chevy Tahoe being towed also had chrome 22” wheels leading the officers to believe that the Tahoe had been stolen in order to get the wheels. The officers notified MPD and their officers located the truck but were unable to stop it before it fled back into Maryland from the Montana Avenue area. Police Report: July10-12

Friday July 10th : 3800 block of 34th Street : At about 3:10 pm officers on patrol checked the welfare of an individual lying on the ground. He was uninjured and coherent but the officers discovered that he has an open arrest warrant through Montgomery County. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 34th Street & Rhode Island Avenue : At about 3:15 pm officers received a call for a woman down. When they arrived they discovered the woman uninjured and coherent. She told the officers that she was having a nervous breakdown and had family troubles at home. She refused medical treatment and left the scene of her own accord. 2800 block of Shepherd Street : At about 2:15 pm officers took a report of a found missing person. The complainant reported the woman missing on May 29th stating that she was last seen around 7 am headed for the Hyattsville Metro Station. Police Report: July 8-9

July 8th : 3800 block of 37th Place (Brentwood) : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a recovered stolen vehicle. The owner called police to advise that he had found his 1994 Honda that had been stolen from his residence in the 4200 block of 31st Street in Mount Rainier on Jul 7th. At the time of the recovery the vehicle was missing all four wheels and the ignition column was destroyed. The owner took custody of the vehicle at the scene. July 9th : 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 10 am officers responded for the report of an unsupervised small child outside an apartment building. The officers arrived and found a 5 year old boy who had become locked out of his apartment. Further investigation revealed that no parent, guardian or caregiver was present to take custody of the child. Officers were finally able to contact the child’s mother at her place of employment and she immediately returned home. She told the officers that her roommate was supposed to be watching the boy;

Police Report: July 8

4600 block of 25th Street : At about 4:25 pm officers were notified by MPD that one of their patrol officers recovered a Chrysler Sebring in the 1900 block of 3rd Street NE. The vehicle was originally reported stolen from a resident in the 4600 block of 25th Street in Mount Rainier on July 4th. 4700 block of 34th Street : At about 6:05 pm power shift officers observed a subject consuming an open alcoholic beverage in the 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue. When the officers approached the subject and requested his identification he directed harsh profanity towards the officers and fled on foot. The officers, with the assistance of several PGPD officers finally apprehended and arrested the subject in the 4700 block of 34th Street. A search incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and is currently being held on a $20,000 bond. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 9:30 pm power shif

4200 block of 31st Street : At about 11:45 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his 1994 Honda Civic, Maryland tags BDM774 by his residence at about 3 am. When he returned for the car at 11 am he discovered it had been stolen. A check of the area for witnesses and evidence was negative. 3300 block of Queenstown Drive : At about 2 pm officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that the victim’s vehicle was struck by a second unidentified vehicle which fled the scene. The victim’s vehicle sustained severe damage to front driver’s side. 3600 block of Perry Street : At about 2 pm officers took a missing persons report. The parents of a 17 year old male reported that their son was last seen on July 5th and that they believed he was with some of his friends. No foul play was suspected and the teen was entered into the NCIC missing persons database. 4300 block of 32nd Street : At about 7:30 office

Police Report: July 6 - PCP ARREST

2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 10:05 pm power shift officers observed an individual drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage. When officers attempted to stop him he fled on foot. The officers gave chase and as they closed the gap on him he started to throw small glass bottles to the ground. As the bottles hit the ground officers immediately smelled an odor of PCP. When he was finally caught he was found to be in possession of approximately $4,000 worth of PCP. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: July 6

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station) : At about 2:40 pm officers took a theft from auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his Volkswagen Jetta at the gas station lot and went to work. When he returned he discovered that person(s) unknown had broken into the vehicle and stole several personal items from inside. No evidence as to those responsible could be found at the scene. 4100 block of 31st Street : At about 6:25 am officers responded for the report of a residential burglary. The officer spoke with the resident who said that he left his home for work at about 8:30 am on July 5th returning home at about 10:30 pm. He did not notice anything amiss and retired for the night. When he got up around 6:20 am on the 6th he noticed that his kitchen window was open and a can of change missing. He also discovered a broken window in his garage door. The officers’ investigation revealed that the perpetrators apparently broke the garage door window and gained access to

Organized to support The Old Guard's ceremonial commitments, the Drill Team has thrilled millions of youngsters and proud Americans for more than 25 years with their daring and complex performances. When not performing for the President or visiting dignitaries and heads of state, the Drill Team travels extensively supporting Army recruitment, acting as "good-will ambassadors" for the Army and participating in major military and civic functions.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Police Report: July 3-5

Friday July 3rd : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 1:25 am MRPD officers along with Queenstown private security officers stopped three suspicious individuals who were suspected of casing several vehicles in a parking lot. The three were interviewed with each giving a different reason for being in the area. A pat down for officer safety revealed that two of the individuals were in possession of screw drivers. None of the individuals were local residents nor did they have identification. An NCIC check revealed that one of them had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for motor vehicle theft. That individual was arrested on the open warrant. He was also charged with trespassing and possession of burglary tools as were the other two. All were delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without further incident. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 7:20 am officers on patrol observed an individual drinking from an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

Police Report: July 1-2

Wednesday July 1st : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 7:30 am officers on patrol observed an individual consuming an alcoholic beverage in public. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. 3800 block of 33rd Street : At about 6:10 pm officers took a report of vandalism to a 2000 Lexus 300. The victim/owner showed the officers where someone had smashed the rear window. No witnesses, suspects or evidence could be found. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Party Time Liquors) : At about 8:45 pm officers responded for a theft that had just occurred. The officers met with a store employee who told them that the thief fled on foot out of the store towards the bus terminal and that he believed two other individuals were also involved. The officers were able to stop and interview the two and learned that one of them had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for misdemeanor theft. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custo

Monday June 29th : 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 12:30 am officers responded for a strong armed robbery. The victim told the officers that while he was walking home from work he was assaulted from behind by two black males, one wearing a red t-Shirt and the other wearing a white t-Shirt, and robbed of his personal property. The victim said that after the two took his property they fled on foot towards Eastern Avenue. Fire/rescue personnel responded to treat the victim for a minor head injury. Officers canvassed the area for the two suspects and any witnesses or evidence with negative results. Tuesday June 30th : 3200 block of Taylor Street : At about 11 pm officers responded for the report of an attempted armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was getting out of his vehicle when he was approached by an individual who placed a gun to his head and told him to get on the ground. Police Report: June 26-28

Friday June 26th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 11:30 am officers met with a representative from the Sigma Space Corporation who told them that the hose to their metro counter (a device use to count vehicles and measure their speed) had been cut by person(s) unknown. No evidence as to those responsible could be found. Saturday June 27th : Buchanan Street and Chillum Road : At about 4:15 am stopped two individuals who were riding a grey motor scooter. Neither of the individuals was wanted and they were eventually sent on their way after receiving warnings for traffic related violations. After the individuals left the area the officers received information that the scooter had been stolen from an address in Greenbelt. The officers canvassed the area for the scooter and its riders with negative results. An arrest warrant was obtained for the driver of the scooter charging him with theft. Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road : At about 9:50 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a
