Police Report: November 27-29

November 27th : Nothing significant to report. November 28th : Nothing significant to report. November 29th : 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11 parking lot): At about 12:30 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he parked his vehicle in the 7-11 parking lot and went into the store leaving his driver’s side window down. When he returned to his vehicle he discovered that his cell phone had been stolen. The officers attempted to view the store’s security cameras but they found that the victim had parked his car out of the cameras’ view. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station): At about 11:20 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers she when she returned to her vehicle after paying for gas she noticed her passenger door was open. November 25th : 2200 block of Varnum Street : At about 6 p.m. officers stopped an individual for a field interview. Further investigation revealed that he had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of CDS distribution. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3500 block of Newton Place : At about 10:20 p.m. officers issued an individual a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. November 26th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8:20 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving uninsured. Police Report: November 23-24

November 23rd : 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 12:30 a.m. officers responded for the report of several individuals tampering with a motor vehicle. Upon their arrival they located and arrested three juveniles for tampering. All three were transported to MRPD headquarters for processing. They were charged via juvenile petition for tampering with a motor vehicle and two of them were released to their parents pending a court hearing. The third juvenile was found to be a runaway from DC. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded and took custody of the runaway. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8 a.m. officers took a report of stolen tags. November 20th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 2 a.m. officers took a report of a residential burglary. The resident/victim told the officers that she discovered several personal items missing from inside her apartment when she returned home. Investigation revealed that someone broke into the apartment through the dinning room window. The scene was processed for evidence with negative results. November 21st : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 5:45 a.m. officers stopped a suspicious female for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that she had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a second degree assault charge. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 11:45 a.m. officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The victim/owner told the officers that an unseen vehicle struck his 2006 Chevy Malibu and failed to remain at the scene of the collision. The was no evidence found that would lead to the identity of the striking vehicle. 4000 block of 34th Street : At about 11:20 p.m. officers responded for the report of a residential burglary in progress. As the officers arrived they observed a man climbing out of a broken window. When the man saw the officers he retreated into the house. The officers made several announcements ordering him to come out and identify himself, which he failed to do. The officers then entered the house and after a thorough search discovered him hiding in an upstairs crawl space. The man refused to come out of the crawl space and the officers were forced to deploy a Taser weapon to get him to comply. The Taser had the desired effect and he was taken into cust

3600 block of Perry Street : At about 8 a.m. the victim/owner of a 2000 Dodge Stratus (MD tag 7ENV25) reported that his vehicle had been stolen sometime during the overnight hours. No evidence was found at the scene that would help identify those responsible for the theft. 4000 block of 36th Street : At about 1 p.m. officers took a missing persons report. The complainant told the officers that his brother left home on November 13th and has not returned. The brother’s information was entered into the NCIC missing persons database. 4600 block of 29th Street : At about 10:45 p.m. officers responded for the report of a citizen robbery. The victim told the officers that as he was entering the hallway of his apartment building he was confronted by two black males, one of whom was armed with a silver revolver. They demanded his money and property and when he told them that he did not have any money one of the men went through his pockets and stole several items of his personal property. Both

Monday November 16th : 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 9:45 a.m. officers took a report of a missing man who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Relatives told the officers that the 85 year old was last seen on November 15th at about 10 a.m. Officers immediately put out a missing persons report to surrounding police agencies and entered the man’s information into the NCIC missing person’s database. UPDATE: On November 17th at about 4:45 a.m. Amtrak police officers located the man at Union Station. He was returned safely to his home and relatives. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 4 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. As the officers approached the vehicle they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Further investigation revealed that a passenger was in possession of 21.6 grams of marijuana. Friday November 13th : 4500 34th Street : At about 1 pm officers met with the principal of Thomas Stone Elementary School who told them that while walking the school grounds she found a container of clear liquid which had a strong odor of gasoline. The container was turned over to the fire department for disposal. Saturday November 14th : 3600 block of Wells Avenue : At about 4:10 a.m. officers responded for the report of a vehicle fire. When they arrived they were met by fire/rescue personnel who were working to extinguish the fire that had fully engulfed the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that person(s) unknown had crashed the vehicle and set it on fire. MILES/NCIC data confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to PGPD in a burglary on November 9th. Tuesday November 10th : 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 7:15 a.m. officers took a stolen auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone stole her silver 1998 Honda Civic with Maryland tags 7AKL56. A second 1998 Honda Civic with Maryland tags GWT298 was also reported stolen from the area during the same time frame. A check of the area for witnesses and evidence was negative. 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 9:20 p.m. officers responded for a citizen robbery. The victim told the officers that while he was entering his residence a black male (described as 5’6” tall, about 180 lbs., wearing a brown hoodie and blue jeans and armed with a shotgun) pointed the shotgun at him and demanded his wallet and money. November 9th : 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 5:15 p.m. officers took a vandalism to auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that upon returning to his parked vehicle he discovered that someone had damaged the passenger side door lock. No entry was made and nothing had been stolen. A check of area for evidence and/or witnesses was negative. 4500 block of 30th Street : At about 9 p.m. officers responded to the police station to meet with the victim of an identity theft. The victim told the officers that while checking his bank account online he discovered that someone had used his name and bank account information to order services from Boost Mobile and T-Mobile with total charges exceeding $200. Friday November 6th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:55 p.m. officers observed two individuals consuming alcoholic beverages inside a motor vehicle. Both were issued criminal citations for the violation and sent on their way. UPDATE: Man Struck by MARC Train

The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Section has identified the man who was struck and killed by the MARC train on November 4th. He was identified as a Mount Rainier resident with an address in the 3500 block of Bunker Hill Road. His name is being with held pending notification of next of kin.

Police Report: November 5-6

November 5th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 9:45 a.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim/owner showed the officers where someone had stolen her car’s driver’s side headlight assembly. She said that the theft most likely occurred between 9 p.m. on November 3rd and 4 p.m. on November 4th. 4500 block of 34th Street : At about 10:50 a.m. officers took a report of a citizen robbery that allegedly occurred on November 4th at about 5:20 a.m. The victim told the officers that she was walking on 34th Street on her way to the Hyattsville metro when a black male, 30-40 years of age, approximately 6’6” tall, 180 lbs., wearing all dark clothing approached her and demanded money. The man had his hands in his pockets as if implying a weapon, however none was displayed. The victim surrendered her purse to the man who then fled on foot to the rear of Thomas Stone Elementary School. H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

Location : Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex Dates : November 11th; November 12th; December 3rd; December 10th Times : 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (in the past the hours were extended to 4 p.m.) Target population : 6 months to 24 years, plus care givers, health care workers and pregnant women. They are not targeting seniors or public safety workers. Doses : 1,000 or more shots will be administered each day at the four clinics. Proof of residency : No proof of residency is required. On the first two dates the clinics will be held in the field house and the remaining dates will be held in the town hall meeting room.

Assistance Needed in Identifying a Man Struck by a MARC Train in Cottage City

The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Section is currently investigating the death of an unidentified man who was struck and killed by a MARC Train adjacent to the 3700 block of Cottage Terrace in Cottage City on November 4, 2009 at about 7:55 p.m. The decedent is described as a white male, 50-60 years old with grey hair wearing a brown coat, white thermal shirt, blue jeans, and black “DC” brand tennis shoes. Anyone with information as to the identity of the decedent should contact the PGPD Homicide Section at (301) 772-4925.

4700 block of 31st Place : At about 7:15 p.m. officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner told the officers that when he came out to use his car he discovered that someone had damaged the driver’s side door lock. No additional damage was done and nothing was missing from inside. A check of the area for evidence/witnesses was negative. 4600 block of 30th Street : At about 8:45 p.m. officers investigated a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that he left home at about 11 a.m. locking both the top and bottom locks to the apartment’s entry door. When he returned home he noted that both locks were still locked, but when he went into his apartment he discovered several items including a quantity of U.S. currency missing from his bedroom. Further investigation revealed that the check was indeed fraudulent and the individual was arrested, charged and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2400 block of Chillum Road : At about 5:30 p.m. power shift officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and released. The driver was cited for the speed violation. 4400 block of Pennwood Road, Brentwood : At about 9:35 p.m. officers were flagged down in reference to a stolen automobile report. Friday October 30th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 8:15 a.m. officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that he was pumping gas and had his back turned away from his vehicle. When he turned around he saw a black male, 30-39 years of age, about 5’7” tall and 140 lbs. Sitting in the driver’s seat. The victim yelled at the man and when he got out of the car the victim sprayed him with fuel. The man immediately ran to rear of the station and got into a green Jaguar (possibly a 2005 model) occupied by two other individuals. The Jaguar fled across Eastern Avenue into DC. The victim said that several music CDs and a key ring were taken.
