Police Report: April 28

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 9 am officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim/owner told the officers that as she was pumping gas into the vehicle an individual described only as a skinny young black male jumped into her running vehicle and drove away in unknown direction. A check of the area for the victim’s vehicle proved negative. A lookout was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 10:45 pm officers stopped a vehicle for driving without its headlights on. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver’s license and a passenger had an open arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a traffic related charge. While searching both individuals incident to their arrest the driver was found to be in possession of a small quantity of cocaine . Both men were delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Police Report: April 27

3700 block of Wells Avenue : At about 12 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim told the officers that on April 26th at around 1:30 pm laid her laptop down in her work area and when she looked back a short time later the laptop was missing. No other information was available at the time of the report. 2800 block of Shepherd Street : At about 1 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim/owner told the officers that he parked his 1997 Toyota Camry (MD tags 2FCD50) by his residence at about 10 am. When he returned to the car around 1 pm he discovered it had been stolen. No evidence was recovered and no witness(es) could be located.

Police Report: April 26

29th Street & Arundel Road : At about 7:30 am officers investigated a motor vehicle collision . The driver of a metro bus told officers that he was trying to move out of the way of oncoming traffic and struck the driver’s side of a parked 1998 Infiniti. The Infinity sustained damage to the bumper on the driver’s side. 4300 block of 29th Street : At about 10 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The victim/owner of a 2007 Chevy showed the officers where person(s) unknown had damaged the driver’s side door lock and smashed out the driver’s side window. Nothing was stolen from inside the vehicle and there was no evidence found at the scene.

Police Report: April 23-25

April 23rd : 4000 block of 29th Street : At about 7:45 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the evening/morning hours someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole an item of clothing that had been left inside. A check of the area for evidence/witnesses was negative. 4000 block of 32nd Street (Mount Rainier Elementary School) : At about 11:30 am officers were called to the school in regards to a child custody matter . The mother of a student was at the school to take custody of her child pursuant to a court order. The officers verified the validity of the order and the mother took custody of her child without incident. 3200 block of Upshur Street : At about 1:45 pm officers responded for an animal complaint . The resident told the officers that sometime between 4 pm and 11 pm two stray dogs came into her yard and killed her cat. 3800 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 9:20 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with DUI and his vehicle was impounded. 34th and Taylor Streets : At about 10:00 am officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The victim told the officers that he came out to find that another vehicle struck his parked vehicle sometime prior to his reporting the incident. There was no evidence at the scene that could help identify the striking vehicle. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 9:50 pm officers investigated a motor vehicle collision . Their investigation revealed that an older model Oldsmobile was traveling north Rhode Island Avenue when a van struck the vehicle from behind. The collision caused the Oldsmobile to collide with a vehicle parked in front of Party Time. The van failed to remain at the scene and was last seen westbound on 34th

4200 block of Russell Avenue : At about 10 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone broke into his vehicle through the driver’s side window and stole his GPS unit. The officers also observed that the vehicle’s ignition had been damaged indicating that the person(s) responsible tried to steal the car. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses were located.

Police Report: April 20

4000 block of 29th Street : At about 8:10 am officers took a report of a stolen car . The victim/owner told the officers that came home to discover that his blue 1995 Nissan Maxima (MD tags 7DND57) had been stolen. No evidence or witnesses could be located. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 7 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

Police Report: April 19

2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 8:20 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone got into his 2006 Chevy Tahoe by breaking the driver’s side window. Once inside they stole several electronic stereo components. No evidence or witnesses were located. 4000 block of 36 th Street : At about 5:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The resident told the officers that when he returned home from work he discovered that someone had been inside his apartment and stole several items of his property and a small amount of cash. There was no sign of forced entry into the apartment and a canvass of the building turned up no additional evidence or witnesses.

April 18th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station) : At about 12:35 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that she was pumping gas when a black male approached her and tried to start a conversation. When she ignored him, he got into a dark green Mazda 626 and left the area. When she went to retrieve her purse from her car she discovered that it had been stolen. The man who approached her had acted to distract her while a second individual stole the purse. The officers discovered that there have been approximately 15 similar crimes in the area that MPDC and PGPD are working. 3800 block of Quincy Street : At about 10:15 pm officers patrolling the area observed two suspicious individuals who appeared to be engaged in a drug transaction . April 15th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP Station) : At about 8:30 am officers took a report of an attempt theft from auto. The victim told the officers that she saw a man try and open her car door. When she confronted him he immediately got into a black Lexus with Maryland vanity tags MRSALD and fled the area. . Further investigation revealed that the Lexus had been reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County and had been recently involved in two other thefts from autos; one at the Exxon station on Queens Chapel Road and Hamilton Street, the other at a station on Michigan Avenue in NE DC. A search of the area by MRPD officers and officers from surrounding jurisdictions proved negative. 4300 block of 28th Place : At about 6:45 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim/resident told the officers that when he returned home from an errand he found his front door forced open and his watch missing from his coffee table. No evidence or witnesses

April 12th : 2700 block of Allison Street : At about 1:00 pm an individual came into the police station to report a fraud . The victim further stated that he received information from the IRS that he owed back taxes from 2008. Upon further investigation it was determined that someone else used the victim’s social security number to file a false return. 3100 block of Webster Street : At about 1:00 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim told the officers that he was working on an aluminum door and had it on saw horses in front of his residence. He left his residence for about an hour and when he returned he discovered that someone had stolen the door. No evidence/witnesses were located. 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 5:45 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim told the officers that someone used her credit card to make withdrawals from an ATM machine. The victim reported that over $1,000 was withdrawn from her account without her authorization. April 9th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 4:15 pm officers issues a man a criminal citation for drinking in public. During their encounter with him he gave a false name thinking he had an open arrest warrant. It took the officers a while to determine his true identity and that he did not have any open warrants. In addition to the open alcohol citation he was also cited for giving false information to a uniformed officer. 3300 block of Otis Street : At about 9 pm a man came in to the police station to report a case of identity theft . Person(s) unknown stole his identity to open a cell phone account. He is in the process of working with the cell phone company to correct the situation. April 10th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 12:10 am officers tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle refused to stop and continued to drive into the City of Hyattsville. The officers were finally able to get the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of a liquor

April 7th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 11:50 am officers received a call for a suspicious vehicle . The vehicle was described as a grey Honda. Upon further investigation it was discovered to be stolen from Montgomery County earlier in the day. The vehicle was impounded for safe keeping. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 12:30 pm officers received a call to assist a man with checking the welfare of his brother who he had not heard from in two weeks. With assistance from management employees the officers entered the man’s apartment and found him deceased. No foul play is suspected. The man had suffered from various medical issues for an extended period of time. April 8th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 2:15 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . 3800 block of 37th Street : At about 10 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place. 33rd Street and Bunker Hill Road : At about 10:30 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

Police Report: April 2-5

April 2nd : 4100 block of 32nd Street : At about 5:10 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The officers found that someone stole two cells phones from inside two separate vehicles both of which were owned by the same person. The owner told the officers that he believes he left the vehicles unlocked. No evidence was obtained. 4600 block of 27th Street : At about 4:10 pm officers responded for an attempted suicide . The officers discovered that a 37 year old man attempted suicide by cutting his wrists. He was transported by fire/rescue personal to the hospital for treatment. 3300 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 10:30 pm officers on duty at Joe’s Movement Emporium were notified that a fight between several patrons broke out inside. Private security removed the individuals involved from inside and another fight began outside in front of the building. 2400 block of Arundel Road : At about 4:10 pm officers took a report of a vandalism at the Grand China restaurant. The proprietor told the officers that a man came into the restaurant, broke a sign and fled. Since the proprietor new the man from previous dealings he gave the officers his name and a physical description. This enabled the officers to locate him a short time later. The officers took him back to the restaurant for a positive ID. The proprietor elected not to press charges against him; rather they agreed that he would reimburse the restaurant for the damage. He was released without further incident. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 4 pm officers took a report of vandalism. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:45 pm officers stopped a man who was in possession of an open container of alcohol. When the officers identified him they discovered that he had two open arrest warrants through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear in court on a CDS charge and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. He was also issued a criminal citation for the open alcohol violation.
