Police Report: June 18-22

June 18th:

3700 block of Wells Avenue: At about 7:30 pm officers took a report of a stolen license plate. The victim told the officers that sometime between 3 pm and 7:30 pm someone stole the rear tag off his vehicle that was parked in his driveway. No evidence or witnesses could be located.

June 19th:

3200 block of Arundel Road: At about 12:15 am officers took a report of a missing person. The reporting person told the officers that her husband left for work as normal on June 18th and did not return home as scheduled. The husband’s personal information was entered into the NCIC missing person’s database. At about 9:45 am officers received information that the husband had returned home and was safe and in good health. He had been a guest of the MPD for driving without a license. His information was removed from NCIC.

3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): At about 5:15 am officers responded for a commercial armed robbery. The store clerk told the officers that two black males wearing masks, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, the second with a knife came into the store. The suspect with the shotgun jumped the sales counter and announced a robbery while the second suspect stood watch at the front door. The man with the shotgun handed the second man one of the store’s cash registers, picked up the second register and both men fled out of the store. They were last seen getting into a gold or champagne color compact vehicle which fled the area. No employee was injured during the robbery. PGPD robbery detectives along with an evidence team responded to take over the investigation.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 7:30 am officers on patrol issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

June 20th:

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 3:10 am officers on patrol issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3700 block of 37th Street: At about 3 pm officers took a report of an attempted residential burglary. The resident told the officers that sometime between June 13th and June 20th someone tried to break into her residence through the rear door. There was some slight damage to the rear door but no entry was made. A canvass of the area for evidence revealed negative results.

4600 block of 29th Street: At about 5 pm officers responded for the report of a man trespassing in the victim’s apartment. When the officers arrived they located the man in question and placed him under arrest. The man resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. One they were able to get him in custody he was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and charged accordingly.

June 21st:

3100 block of Upshur Street: At about 12:45 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that at about 2:30 am this morning she saw a man inside her car and called police. At the time she did not think anything was missing from inside, however when she checked further later in the day she discovered that her purse and other items were missing.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 10:14 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The residents told the officers that sometime between 9 pm on June 20th and 9 pm today someone entered their apartment and stole a backpack containing a portable DVD player and a gold wedding ring. The officers were unable to find signs of forced entry into the apartment or other evidence. A canvass of the area also failed to locate any witnesses.

June 22nd:

Cedar Lane Alley and Shepherd Street: At about 1:15 am officers responded for the report of several suspicious individuals hanging out in the alley. When the officers arrived they stopped three of the individuals for field interviews. One of the individuals was found to have an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on a charge of distributing CDS. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The remaining individuals we sent on their way.

3900 block of 38th Street: At about 11:00 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a license. He was issued several traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded.

3400 block of Newton Street: At about 1:45 pm officers responded for the report of an abandoned vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been previously reported stolen from an address in Virginia. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

2900 block of Allison Street: At about 6:10 pm officers responded for the report of a suspicious man loitering in the area. The officers found the man asleep. Further inquiries revealed that he had an open arrest warrant for violation of probation through the District of Columbia. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 9:45 pm officers stopped a vehicle for traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a CDS. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
