Police Report: September 27-28

September 27th : 2700 block of Arundel Road : At about 7:45 pm officers were contacted by DC police and informed that they had recovered a 2001 Dodge Caravan that was originally reported stolen on September 20th from an address in the 2700 block of Arundel Road. DC officers found the vehicle in the 3200 block of Fort Lincoln Drive, NE. It was not drivable due to ignition damage and no arrests were made. The vehicle was released to the owner. September 28th : 2700 block of Webster Street : At about 1:20 pm officers responded for the report of a burglary in progress. When the officers arrived they discovered that one of the apartments had been forcibly entered and ransacked. The officers set up a perimeter around the building and a search for possible suspects eventually proved negative. They were successful in recovering a bag of tools, including a pry bar that may have been used to enter the apartment. The bag and the tools will be processed for latent evidence.

Police Report: September 24-26

September 24th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 3:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim told the officers that when she returned home from work she found the front door to her apartment forced open. She went inside and found that several items of her personal property including electronics and jewelry had been stolen. At about 4 pm the resident in an adjacent apartment returned home to discover that his apartment was also forcibly entered and several personal electronics had also been stolen. Both apartments were processed for evidence with negative results, and no witnesses could be located. Police Report: September 23

3100 block of Perry Street: At about 5:20 pm officers took a report of a recovered stolen auto . MRPD was notified that officers from Colmar Manor PD recovered a Dodge Charger that was stolen from the 3100 block of Perry Street on September 21 st . N o arrests were made. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the owner was notified of the recovery.

Police Report: September 22-23

September 22nd : 4100 block of 34th Street : At about 2:40 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim/owner of a 2008 black Baja scooter told the officers that at about midnight on September 20th he chained the scooter to a police outside his residence. About four hours later he noticed that the chain had been cut and the scooter had been stolen. 4600 block of 29th Street : At about 6 pm officers assisted fire/rescue personnel of Engine Co. 855 with forcing entry into an unoccupied apartment due to a possible fire . Once inside firefighters discovered a pot of food burning on the stove top. The fire was quickly extinguished and apartment management was notified to secure the apartment. September 23rd (early morning) : 3200 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : At about 1:40 am officers were flagged down by a citizen who told them that a highly intoxicated man had just come out of the 7-11 and was possibly going to try and drive his car. September 20th : 4300 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a burglary . The resident told the officers that when he returned home he discovered several personal items had been stolen from inside. During the officers’ investigation they learned from the property manager that an employee let an unauthorized person into the victim’s apartment. That person has not been identified. The property manager is in the process of taking appropriate disciplinary action against the employee. 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 8 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim told the officers that when he returned home he discovered a note on his apartment door informing him that employees of the complex had been inside is apartment to repair a leak. National Take Back Initiative

National Take Back Initiative On Saturday September 25, 2010 the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mount Rainier Police Department and police departments throughout Prince George’s County and the nation will engage in a collaborative effort focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. This national take-back day will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications locally to the MRPD for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for pharmaceutical controlled substances. Police Report: September 17-19

September 17th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 10 am officers stopped a man for drinking in public . When the officers told him he would be cited for the violation he became belligerent, verbally abusive and started yelling and cursing. He was advised numerous times to calm down but refused to do so. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, issued a criminal citation for the alcohol violation and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : At about 11:30 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers that he was unloading groceries from the trunk of his vehicle when he was approached by two men. One of the two produced a handgun and ordered the victim to the ground. The two then went through the victim’s pockets and stolen several items of his personal property. The two men then stole the victim’s red 2007 Chrysler 300 (Virginia tags XJJ-6780) and fled the area. September 15th : 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 4:30 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim/owner of a black 2006 Nissan Maxima (Maryland tags 4EFH57) told the officers that he parked his car in the block at about 10 pm last night and found that it had been stolen when he returned for it this afternoon. No evidence/witnesses to the theft could be located. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 5 pm officers took a report of a theft . The victim told the officers that someone used his debit card to withdraw a large quantity of cash from his credit union account. September 16th : 3200 block of Otis Street : At about 1 pm officers took a report of a sexual assault . The victim told the officers that on September 12th at about 4 am she was approached by a black male (no further description obtained) who asked her if she wanted to make some money. September 13th : 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1 pm a man came into the Mount Rainier Police Station to surrender on several open arrest warrants . The officers conformed that he was indeed wanted by Prince George’s County on charges of 4th degree burglary and two counts of failing to appear in court. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7:25 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The owner told the officers that he came out to his vehicle to find that both drivers’ side tires were flat. On closer observation the officers’ discovered one puncture hole in each tire consistent with an ice pick or similar tool. No evidence or witnesses to the vandalism could be found. September 14th : 2400 block of Chillum Road : At about 12:15 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license. September 10th : 4000 block of 33rd Street : At about 2 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The owner of a 1977 Olds Delta 88 told the officers that when she came out to her vehicle she found that it had been scratched. No evidence/witnesses could be located. 3600 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 8 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Further investigation revealed that both the driver and a passenger were in possession of the illegal substance. The two were arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 11:45 pm officers stopped a man for a field interview. 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 4:10 pm officers responded for the report of a disorderly subject . When they arrived they identified the individual described by the complainant who was being loud and disruptive. The officers’ efforts to get him to calm down were unsuccessful and he was eventually arrested, charged with disorderly conduct and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 6 pm officers responded for the report of a possible drug transaction in progress. When they arrived they stopped a man for a field interview. During the interview the man was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia . He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way. 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 8 pm officers took an individual into custody and delivered the individual to the custody of doctors at Washington Adventist Hospital for an emergency psychiatric evaluation .

Police Report: September 8-9

September 8th : 4100 block of 29th Street : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a stolen Maryland license plate . The victim told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone stole the rear tag off her 2000 Ford F150 truck. No evidence or witnesses could be located. 2800 block of Taylor Street : At about 1:45 pm officers responded for the report of shots fired . When the officers arrived they discovered a single bullet hole in the basement window of a private residence. Several witnesses were interviewed who said that they saw a black vehicle, possibly a Nissan Maxima, speed away from the area after they heard the shot. The occupant of the residence was interviewed, and based on the witnesses’ vehicle description identified two suspects for follow-up investigation. 3800 block of 34th Street : At about 7:30 pm officers took a report of lost property . The reporting person told the officers that she lost her engagement ring while working at church on September 4th at around 4 pm. 3600 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 5 am officers responded to assist MPD with a water main break . At least two houses on Eastern Avenue experienced basement flooding as a result of the break. There were no injuries, and a portion of Eastern Ave will be shut down as DC’s public works attempts to fix the problem. 34th Street at Eastern Avenue will be closed until the break is repaired.

Police Report: September 3-6

September 3rd : Russell Avenue and Arundel Road : At about 7:50 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. September 4th : 1 Municipal Place : At about 5:45 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. 4100 block of 29th Street : At about 6:45 am officers responded for the report of a disabled vehicle . They were met by the owner of a 2005 Toyota Camry with DC tags who told them that she had just been involved in a traffic collision on Eastern Avenue. She complained of neck pain and fire/rescue personnel were summoned to treat her injury. She was subsequently transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for further treatment. September 1st : 3400 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 4:30 pm officers responded for the report of an assault . When the officers arrived they interviewed the victim, who was bleeding from her mouth and right eye, who told them that her ex-boyfriend punched her repeatedly causing her injuries. The ex-boyfriend was located on the porch of a neighboring property and arrested. He was charged with assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4300 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 11:55 pm officers took a report of a carjacking . The victims (2) told the officers that were standing outside their 2009 Toyota Camry (Maryland tags 3FBK85) when they were approached by a dark skinned black male, 5’11” tall, wearing a purple shirt and light-blue jeans with a t-shirt covering his face. The man brandished a small black semi-automatic hand gun and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The victim gave him her keys and he drove off with the vehicle in an unknown direction. The offic

August 30th : 4400 block of 32nd Street : At about 9 am officers responded for a report of an abandoned car blocking the roadway. The officers found the car and discovered that it had been previously reported stolen from an address in Takoma Park. It was impounded for safekeeping and the owner notified of the recovery. No arrests were made. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 9 am officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim told the officers that he parked his green 2001 Dodge Intrepid (Maryland tags 1DBX45) by his residence the previous evening and returned this morning to find that it had been stolen. The officers met with the owner who told them that when she got to work she discovered that the rear tag on her car was not the one that was registered to her.
