Police Report: December 8-9

December 8th:

35th Street & Bunker Hill Road: At about 9:00 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he parked and locked his vehicle at about 6 pm on December 7th. When he returned for his vehicle this morning he discovered that someone had smashed out the front passenger window and stolen a wallet and cell phone from inside. No evidence could be recovered and no witnesses were located.

4600 block of 25th Street: At about 4:45 pm officers patrolling the Queen Manor apartment complex smelled the odor of suspected marijuana coming from a laundry room. Investigating further the officers found four individuals in the room, one of whom was smoking marijuana. He was arrested for the crime and a search incident to his arrest revealed that he was in possession of an additional quantity of marijuana. He was charged with various CDS related offenses and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 9:44 pm officers recovered a license plate found in the roadway. An attempt to contact the owner is in progress.

December 9th:

2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 1:40 am officers conducting a speed enforcement detail stopped a vehicle that was clocked 80 mph. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and an open arrest warrant for a previous offense of driving on a suspended license. He was arrested, charged with numerous traffic offenses and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded.

4300 block of 28th Place: At about 7:20 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner of a 1999 GMC Suburban (MD tag 56614M8) told the officers that he parked and locked his vehicle by his residence at about 10 pm last night. He returned for the vehicle this morning and discovered that it had been stolen. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

3700 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 1:50 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. Further investigation revealed that a passenger was in possession of marijuana. The passenger was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

With the outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus now affecting residents across the United States, and the possibility that some Maryland residents may have been infected with the disease, the Mayor & Council along with the MRPD deemed it wise to let Mount Rainier residents know of precautions that individuals should take in order to minimize the possibility of being infected by this virus.
