Police Report: Week of June 12-18

June 12th:

4600 block of 30th Street: Disorderly arrest – 4:10 am. Officers stopped a group of disorderly and intoxicated individuals. The officers attempted to calm the group and leave the area. All complied with the officers’ requests except for one individual who was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and drinking in public.

3800 block of 33rd Street: Attempted theft from auto – 5:55 am. The owner of a 1993 Toyota Corolla reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle through the driver’s door and ransacked the interior. There were some minor scratches on the driver’s door window that could not be connected to the incident. Nothing was taken from on or inside the vehicle.

3800 block of 33rd Street: Theft from auto – 5:55 am. The owner of a 2009 Hyundai Sonata reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a quantity of change.

June 13th:

3200 block of Bunker Hill Road: Theft from auto – 6:40 am. The owner of a 2006 Honda Accord reported that sometime overnight someone stole approximately $1 in change from inside her car.

3200 block of Bunker Hill Road: Theft from auto – 6:40 am. The owner of a 2008 Subaru Outback reported that sometime overnight someone stole an iPod charging cable and a cell phone charging cable from inside his vehicle.

3100 block of Varnum Street: Attempted theft from auto – 6:40 am. The owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata reported that she parked her vehicle in her driveway at about 2:30 am. When she returned to it this morning she discovered that someone had ransacked the inside. Nothing was taken and the victim believes that she left the vehicle unlocked.

3700 block of Bunker Hill Road: Stolen auto – 8:05 am. The owner of a Ford F-350 truck reported that sometime between 10:00 pm and 11:30 pm on June 12th someone stole his truck.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Theft from auto – 2:10 pm. The owner of a 1991 Honda Accord reported that sometime between 4:30 pm on the 12th and 8:45 am this morning someone entered her vehicle and stole an in-dash radio/CD player. The thieves also stole the victim’s purse from inside the trunk.

June 14th:

4600 block of 25th Street: Attempted burglary – 12:30 am. Residents returning home discovered that someone tried to pry open their apartment door. The door and the deadbolt were damaged during the attempt but those responsible did not gain entry.

4200 block of 28th Street: Vandalism – 12:45 pm. A female guest of the resident’s 22-year old son became upset over an unresolved financial issue. The woman threw a small wooden table that broke several pieces of the mother’s personal property.

4500 block of 34th Street: Recovered stolen auto – 2:05 am. Officers initiated a traffic stop on a 1999 Dodge Ram Pick-up Truck but before the truck came to a stop the driver and passengers bailed out of it and fled on foot. The truck finally stopped when it crashed into two parked vehicles. The truck was discovered to have been stolen from an address in Montgomery County on June 12th. With the assistance of Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Deputies officers were able to apprehend one of the individuals, a juvenile, who they believed to be the driver. He was identified and found to have an open arrest warrant through Prince Georges County for motor vehicle theft. He was arrested, charged with motor vehicle theft and delivered to the custody of Juvenile authorities in Cheltenham.

37th and Newton Streets: Warrant arrest – 3:10 am. Officers stopped to check the welfare of two individuals sleeping in a 1992 Buick. The officers learned that one of them had two open arrest warrants through Prince George’s County for violation of probation and for failing to appear in court on a charge of CDS possession. He was arrested on the warrants and the second individual was sent on his way.

3400 block of Bunker Hill Road: Vandalism to auto – 6:45 am. The owner of a 2007 Ford Focus reported that sometime during the previous night someone smashed out the rear window of the vehicle with a brick.

37th Street and Rhode Island Avenue: Traffic – 8:50 pm. Officers stopped a 1997 Mercury mountaineer for a traffic violation. They discovered that the driver did not have a valid license and the vehicle’s registration was suspended with an MVA pick up order issued for the tags. The vehicle was impounded and the driver issued several traffic citations.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Counterfeit check – 9:45 pm. Officers were called to Party Time Liquors for a man trying to cash a counterfeit check in the amount of $1,600. The officers determined that the check was issued from a business for which the man never worked. He was arrested and charged accordingly.

2400 block of Chillum Road: Warrant arrest – 11:15 pm. Officers stopped a 1992 Mazda for a traffic violation and learned that the driver had an open arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without insurance. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC.

June 15th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Recovered stolen auto – 11:45 am. Officers on patrol identified an unoccupied 1998 Honda Civic which had been previously reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and PGPD was notified of the recovery.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 1:50 pm. A man came into the police station to surrender on two open arrest warrants issued by the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC.

3200 block of Bunker Hill Road: Found handgun – 7 pm. Officers met with a resident who called to report that she had found a handgun in her back yard. The officers recovered a fully loaded 40 caliber semi automatic Sig Sauer handgun. Further investigation revealed that the gun had been reported stolen from an address in Virginia back in 2002.

3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 9 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant arrest – 11:15 pm. Officers stopped a suspicious individual who was seen walking behind Thrifty Rental Car which, at the time, was closed for business. Further investigation revealed that the man had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC.

June 16th:

3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service/vehicle impound – 1:25 am. Officers patrolling using a license plate reader were alerted to a vehicle whose owner had a suspended license. They stopped the vehicle and discovered that it was being driven by the registered owner.  They also learned that he had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving an uninsured vehicle. He was cited for driving on a suspended license and arrested on the warrant. His vehicle was impounded.

3300 block of Chillum Road: 1st degree assault – 5:20 pm. The victim was approached by an unknown Hispanic male who announced to the victim “I got ya’ll now.” The suspect removed a machete from the red and black back pack he was carrying and struck the victim once in the upper left shoulder. The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction on a bicycle. The victim was transported by fire/rescue personnel to Children’s Hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injury. PGPD detectives responded to the hospital to interview the victim and to begin a follow-up investigation.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Vandalism to auto – 11:15 pm. The owner of a 2004 Mercedes reported that someone smashed out one of the vehicle’s windows with a brick. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

June 17th:

4000 block of 30th Street: Theft from auto – 9:25 am. The owner of a 2001 Ford F150 truck reported that sometime during the overnight hours someone stole a wallet and power tools from inside his truck.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Death report – 11 am. Officers were called to an apartment to check the welfare of the female resident. When the officers entered the apartment they discovered that the woman had died some hours prior to their arrival. The woman’s death was determined to be related to ongoing health issues and no foul play was involved.

4700 block of 27th Street: Identity theft – 1:30 pm. The victim notified officers that an unauthorized individual used his debit card to withdrew all of the money from his bank account. His financial institution’s fraud unit will be handling the follow-up investigation.

4100 block of 29th Street: Stolen auto – 2 pm. The owner of a 2006 Yamaha scooter reported that sometime between 7:30 pm on the 16th and the time of the report someone stole the vehicle from in front of their residence.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Vandalism to auto – 6 pm. The owner of a 2006 Ford Taurus reported that sometime between 7:30 pm and the time of the report someone intentionally scratched his vehicle.

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: 2nd degree assault – 10 pm. Officers stopped a 2004 Infinity SUV for a traffic violation. While one officer was writing out a citation another officers observed the saw the driver attempting to swallow a quantity of marijuana. When officers attempted to stop the man from destroying evidence of a crime he punched one of the officers in the face. A brief struggle ensued and officers were forced to deploy a Taser weapon to get the man under control and under arrest. He was charged with assaulting a police officer and assorted CDS crimes and delivered to the custody of DOC.

June 18th:

4100 block of 31st Street: Destruction of property – 5:40 pm. Officers discovered that a man and woman had had a domestic argument involving a recent court order. During the argument the woman broke a window. Since the incident occurred prior to the officers’ arrival the man was advised of his options with the District Court Commissioner.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Possession CDS/Assault – 11:10 pm. Officers stopped a 1996 Chevy Lumina for a traffic violation. When they approached the vehicle they observed a rear seat passenger acting in a suspicious manner. The officers requested that the passenger step out of the vehicle and when he did he pushed an officer in the chest and fled on foot. A foot chase ensued and officers were eventually forced to deploy a Taser weapon to get the man under control and under arrest. He was found to be in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine. He was charged with assaulting a police officer and assorted CDS crimes and delivered to the custody of DOC.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
