Police Report: April 13-14

April 13th:

Other than a mutual aid incident that occurred at 5:30 am and previously reported there was nothing significant to report.

April 14th (early morning):

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): Warrant/narcotics arrest – 12:10 am. Officers conducting a premises check of the BP station observed a 2003 Chevy Tahoe at the gas pump for an extended period of time. An MVA check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registered owner had an open warrant out of Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving while suspended. The officers identified the driver as the registered owner and arrested him on the open warrant. A search of his person incident to the arrest revealed that he was in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine. He was charged with the narcotics crimes and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police report: April 12-13

April 12th:

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Emergency petition – 12:15 pm. Officers responded for the report of a man in front of the post office acting disorderly and removing his clothes. When the officers arrived they located and detained the partially clothed man. Further investigation revealed that the man was under the influence of PCP and had assaulted three passengers on a metro bus. He was taken into custody and delivered to the custody of the medical staff at Washington Adventist Hospital for an emergency psychiatric evaluation. Metro Transit Police officers responded to the scene to investigate potential charges against the man for assaulting the bus passengers. Actual charges are pending Metro Transit’s investigation.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Attempt stolen auto – 4:20 pm. The owner of a 2002 Dodge Intrepid reported that sometime during the previous evening/morning hours someone broke into his vehicle and damaged the ignition in an unsuccessful attempt to steal the car.

4000 block of 34th Street: Theft from auto – 9:30 pm. The owner of a 1992 Honda Civic reported that sometime between 7 pm and 9:30 pm someone stole the dealer tag off his vehicle.

4400 block of 28th Street: Theft from auto – 5:20 pm. The owner of a 2011 Nissan Versa reported that sometime during the previous evening/morning hours someone stole all four wheel covers off her vehicle.

3700 block of 36th Street: Emergency petition – 11:15 pm. Officers responded for the report of a naked man banging on parked cars and resident’s doors. When the officers arrived the located the man and identified him as one with whom they have had numerous contacts in the past. When officers tried to take the man into custody a struggle ensued and officers were forced to deploy a Taser weapon to get the man under control and under arrest. Officers determined that the man was under the influence of PCP. Fire/rescue personnel responded to the scene and delivered the man to the custody of medical personnel at Prince George’s Hospital for an emergency psychiatric evaluation.

April 13th (early morning):

34th Street and Arundel Road: Mutual aid – 5:30 am. Officers were called to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents with the apprehension of a fleeing fugitive. Prior to MRPD’s arrival ICE agents apprehended the individual who had lead them on a foot chase into the storm water culvert just off Chillum Road. At the request of ICE agents MRPD officers impounded the fugitive’s 1997 Ford Explorer which he had abandoned at 34th and Arundel.

Police Report: April 11

4600 block of 31st Street: Narcotics arrest – 7:40 pm. Officers responded for the report of a suspicious subject smoking CDS in the park. When the officers arrived they located the man in question and stopped him for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that he was in possession of approximately 11 grams of marijuana. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: April 8-10

April 8th:

2700 block of Allison Street: Stolen vehicle – 8:20 am. The owner of a 1997 Plymouth Voyager told officers that he parked and secured his van on April 7th at about 8:30 pm. He returned for the vehicle this morning to discover that it had been stolen. At about 3:50 pm the vehicle was recovered by DC Police in the 600 block of Jefferson Street NE. No arrests were made.

3300 block of Chillum Road: 1st degree assault – 10:55 pm. Officers initially responded for the report of a pedestrian struck. When they spoke to the victim she said that she had borrowed some money from a friend who came by her house to be repaid. The victim met her friend outside her home and as the victim turned to go back inside to get the money her friend ran into her with the green minivan she was driving. The victim sustained injuries to her neck, back and elbow, and was transported by fire/rescue personnel to the hospital for treatment.

April 9th:

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 8:50 am. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

4000 block of 34th Street: Alcohol arrest – 12:20 pm. Officers stopped a group of individuals for possessing open containers of alcohol. One of the individuals did not wish to cooperate with the officers and a brief struggle ensued. The man was taken into custody and charged with the alcohol violation.

2200 block of Varnum Street: Criminal citation – 4:40 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): Narcotics arrest – 8:10 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As the officers approached the vehicle they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. Further investigation revealed that both the driver and his passenger were in possession of marijuana. Both were arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4700 block of 27th Street: Citizen robbery – 10:40 PM. At about 1:30 am on April 10th officers were flagged down by a man who told them that he was robbed earlier in the night. Officers were able to determine that the robbery occurred at about 10:40 pm on April 9th (about three hours prior). The victim told the officers that he was approached by two Hispanic males who asked if he was MS-13. He responded that he was not. They then asked him if he had any money, and again he replied that he didn’t. The suspects then went through his pockets and stole his money and cell phone before fleeing the area. The victim went to a family member’s house in DC before returning to notify police. The suspects were described as one, an Hispanic male, 16-18 YOA, 5’07”, 160 lbs., wearing green pants, a brown jacket with an orange collar and armed with a “white pole”; second suspect was an Hispanic male, 16-18 YOA, 5’11”, 170 lbs., wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

April 10th:

Queens Chapel Road and Chillum Road: Warrant arrest – 12:15 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4200 block of 28th Street: Theft from auto – 2:35 pm. The owner of a 2000 Dodge Caravan told officers that he parked and secured his vehicle on April 9th at about 8:00 pm. When he returned for the vehicle this afternoon he discovered that someone had broken into his van and stole his iPod.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: Stolen vehicle – 8:30 am. The owner of a silver 2003 Ford E-350 van (Virginia tag XEY1525) reported that sometime during the evening/morning hours someone stole his vehicle.

3800 block of 34th Street: Alcohol violation – 6:20 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

Police Report: April 6

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Missing person – 11:45 am. A family member told officers that an adult male relative was released from drug rehab on April 1st and was last seen on April 4th. Since then he has not returned home or contacted family members. Officers also learned that the missing person has an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a traffic charge. The missing person’s information was entered into the NCIC missing persons database.

3700 block of 35th Street: Theft from auto – 11:25 am. The owner of a 1998 Ford Expedition told officers that sometime between the hours of 3:45 am and 11 am someone broke the rear passenger window, entered the vehicle and stole a stereo radio.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Warrant arrest – found missing person – 7 pm. Officers received a call that the adult male reported missing earlier in the day had returned home safely and unharmed. Officers went to the residence to verify the information and to arrest the man on the open arrest warrant. He was taken into custody without incident and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Traffic – 11:50 pm. Officers stopped a 2001 Volvo S80 for an equipment violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s tags were suspended by MVA. The driver was issued several traffic citations and the vehicle was impounded.

3000 block of Queens Chapel Road: Traffic – 11:50 pm. Officers stopped a 2004 Chevy Suburban for an equipment violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s tags were suspended by MVA. The driver was issued several traffic citations and the vehicle was impounded.

Police Report: April 5

4000 block of 31st Street: Warrant arrest – 6:55 am. Officers received information that an individual wanted by MRPD on two active criminal arrest warrants was at a private residence. Officers responded to the address, arrested the man and delivered him to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Queenstown Drive and Chauncey Place: Hit and run collision – 8:30 am. Officers spoke with the owner of a 2009 Nissan Murano who told them that sometime during the night her vehicle was struck by another vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Alcohol violation – 9 am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: Narcotics arrest – 8:30 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was in possession of crack cocaine. She was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3000 block of Chillum Road: Narcotics arrest – 11:05 pm. Officers stopped to investigate a 1996 Ford Thunderbird that was stopped in the roadway. As the officers approached the vehicle it drove off and stopped in an adjacent parking lot. The same actions occurred a second time before the officers were able to approach the vehicle to speak with the driver. The officers quickly determined that the driver was under the influence of PCP. He was taken into custody and was found to be in possession of several PCP laced cigarettes known as ‘dippers.’ He was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for a medical evaluation. Once he was released from the hospital he was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: April 4-5

April 4th:

3800 block of 34th Street: Warrant arrest – 2:45 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on a traffic related offense. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Theft from auto – 7:40 pm. The victim told the officers that she went into the Family Dollar to do some shopping. When she returned to her car she discovered that someone had broken the passenger side window with a rock and stole her Sony Vaio laptop.

37th and Newton Streets: Recovered stolen auto – 8 pm. Officers responded for the report of an abandoned vehicle. They located a 1996 Infinity parked and unoccupied in the roadway. A check of the vehicle revealed that it was reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County on March 29th. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and PGPD was notified of the recovery.

April 5th (early morning):

Queens Chapel Road and Chillum Road: Warrant arrest – 1:10 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant through Prince Georges County for failing to appear in court on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: April 1-3

April 1st:

3800 block of 34th Street: Alcohol violation – 9:30 am. Officers issued two individuals criminal citations for drinking alcoholic beverages in public.

3800 block of 34th Street: Suspicious person – 10:15 am. Officers responded for the report of an armed individual. The officers arrived and located the individual described by the complainant and found him in possession of an unloaded BB gun. The gun was unloaded and was non-functional. The gun was seized and the individual released. Criminal charges are pending consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office.

4700 block of 27th Street: Vandalism to auto – 11:25 am. The owner of a 1995 Nissan Maxima told officers that sometime during the previous evening/morning hours someone broke the right front passenger window of his vehicle.

4200 block of 30th Street: Theft from auto – 1 pm. The owner of a 2007 Toyota Sienna told officers that sometime prior to her reporting the incident someone broke into her vehicle and stole a Garmin GPS unit.

3500 block of Otis Street: Hit and run collision – 9 pm. The owner of a 1993 Saturn LS reported that an unknown vehicle crashed into his vehicle and fled the scene without reporting the collision. The victim’s vehicle suffered minor damage to the right rear.

3600 block of Perry Street: Narcotics possession – 9:45 pm. Officers stopped a 1996 Lincoln Town Car for a traffic violation. While initiating the traffic stop the officers observed a passenger throw an unknown object out of the window. The item thrown by passenger was located and identified as a plastic bag containing marijuana. The passenger was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. A check of the driver’s record through MVA revealed that he had a learners permit only. He was issued several traffic citations and released at the scene. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

April 2nd:

3300 block of Chillum Road: Warrant arrest – 12:05 am. Officers stopped a 2004 Jaguar for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for driving an uninsured vehicle. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Alcohol violation – 10 am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

3700 block of 35th Street: 1st degree assault – 1:40 pm. Officers responded for the report of shots fired inside a boarding house. The victims/witnesses told the officers that a man known to them only by the name “Cook” came to the house asking to speak with the property manager. Once inside the house he produced a handgun and began threatening residents. A dog belonging to one of the residents became aggressive towards “Cook” and chased him out of the house. “Cook” fired one shot at the dog striking him in the mouth and fled the area. PC County Animal Control officers responded and took custody of the dog for treatment. PGPD CID detectives responded to assume a follow-up investigation. None of the residents of the boarding house was injured.

3700 block of 35th Street: Warrant arrest – 1:40 pm. While investigating the 1st degree assault incident described above officers learned that one of the residents had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County. The warrant was for failing to appear in court on a charge of disorderly conduct. She was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident.

4600 block of 29th Street: Stolen vehicle – 3:20 pm. The owner of a white 1996 Dodge Intrepid (Maryland tag 4AD2502) reported that sometime prior to her call to police someone stole her vehicle. No evidence/witnesses could be found.

4000 block of 35th Street: Alleged child sex offense – 2:20 pm. Officers responded for the report of a possible child sex offense. The reporting person told officers that one juvenile family member committed a sexual assault on another juvenile family member. PGPD Child Abuse detectives were contacted along with Child Protective Services. Both agencies are assisting in the investigation and any charges are pending the results of their investigation.

2400 block of Chillum Road: Warrant arrest – 9:45 pm. Officers stopped a 1996 Plymouth for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was released to a licensed family member at the scene.

4500 block of 34th Street: Departmental motor vehicle collision – 9:50 pm. An MRPD officer was responding to assist other officers with a wanted subject when his cruiser was struck by a 1999 Toyota Rav4. The Toyota failed to yield the right of way to the officer’s vehicle which had its emergency lights and siren activated. The officer was taken by ambulance to Washington Adventist Hospital for treatment of his non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota refused medical treatment at the scene and was arrested for DUI/DWI and driving without a license. The officer was treated and released from the hospital. The police cruiser was totaled in the collision.

April 3rd:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Emergency petition – 8:55 pm. A juvenile called police to report that his father had smoked PCP and was now behaving irrationally. The child told officers that he was afraid for his safety. The officers located the father and found him to be incoherent and refusing to communicate with them. Officers summoned fire/rescue personnel to evaluate the father’s condition. When the medics began to treat the man he became violent and combative with them and the MRPD officers. The officers were forced to deploy a Taser weapon in order to get the man under control and under arrest. He was finally subdued, placed in handcuffs and leg shackles, and transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for medical treatment and an emergency psychological examination.

Police Report: March 30

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 8:55 am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public.

3300 block of Shepherd Street: Vandalism to auto – 1:30 pm. The owner of a 1998 Infinity reported that sometime between 8 pm on March 30th and the time of the report someone slashed three of her tires. No evidence/witnesses were identified.

2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11): Theft – 9:10 pm. Officers spoke with a store clerk who said that two men came into the store and filled their arms with merchandise from various locations. The two then passed all points of sale without paying for the items. Officers reviewed surveillance camera video and recognized one of the subjects from a previous 7-11 theft. They were able to contact the suspect by phone and get him to return to the City whereupon he was arrested, charged with theft and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The second suspect has yet to be identified and the investigation is continuing.
