Police Report: February 12-18

February 18th:

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): Warrant service – 9:50 pm. Officers received a call from a woman who said that her boyfriend had just stolen her cell phone. When the officers arrived the woman gave them a description of the boyfriend. The officers located and detained him in the parking lot of the BP station. As the officers were questioning him the victim came up, took her phone back and left the area. Further investigation revealed that the man had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a theft charge. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

February 17th:

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: DWI – 12:30 am. Officers patrolling the area observed a 2010 Ford pickup truck stopped at a green traffic light. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

3249 Rhode Island Avenue: Found missing juvenile – 2:25 pm. Two women came into the police station to drop off a 15 year old female they found wandering in the Queens Chapel Road area. Further investigation revealed that the juvenile had been previously reported missing from an address in DC. Detectives from the MPD/FBI joint Child Exploitation Task Force responded to MRPD and took custody of the juvenile so she could be returned to her home. The child’s mother was notified by MRPD officers that she had been found safe and unharmed.

3200 block of Otis Street: CDS arrest – 9:30 pm. Officers responded for the report of several individuals being disorderly and smoking CDS. When the officers arrived they detained several individuals after smelling the odor of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that one of the individuals, a male juvenile, was in possession of marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia. He was charged with those offenses via a juvenile petition and released to the custody of his father at the scene.

February 16th:

3200 block of Chillum Road: Citizen robbery – 6 am. The victim told officers that as she was walking from her residence to the West Hyattsville Metro Station (behind Standard Pressing) she was approached by two black males wearing ski masks. One of the men threw her to the ground, pointed a knife at her face and demanded her money. The victim said that she did not have any money, only a cell phone. The suspects took her cell phone and a bag she was carrying and fled the area on Chauncey Place into the Queenstown Apartments complex and made good their escape. The victim could only describe her assailants as black males wearing all black clothing and ski masks. The victim was not injured and refused medical treatment.

3300 block of Chillum Road: Citizen robbery – 6:10 am. The victim told officers that she was walking behind the 7-11 at 3310 Chillum Road when two black males approached her from behind. One of the males pushed her down on the ground and held a pipe or similar object to her throat. One of the males then demanded the victim’s money. The suspect took the victim’s purse and the two fled into the Queenstown Apartment complex and made good their escape. The victim described one of the men as about 18-20 years of age, 5’8” tall with a thin build and wearing a dark colored coat. MRPD officers and PGPD detectives are conducting a following up investigation and believe that the two individuals involved in this robbery are also responsible for the robbery that occurred 10 minutes earlier behind Standard Pressing (see above description).

Chillum Road and Buchanan Street: Hit and run collision – 11:35 am. The owner of a 2004 Dodge Intrepid reported that sometime prior to her call to police an unidentified vehicle struck her car and fled the scene.

4100 block of 29th Street: Recovered stolen vehicle – 9:45 pm. MRPD officers were notified by DC police that they recovered a stolen motor scooter in the 2600 block of Evarts Street NE. The scooter was reported stolen from the 4100 block of 29th Street on June 16th, 2011. The scooter was not in a drivable condition at the time of recovery and no arrests were made.

February 15th:

3800 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 11:25 am. Officers issued a man and woman criminal citations for drinking alcoholic beverages in public.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 1:40 pm. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for urinating in public.

February 14th:

4000 block of 30th Street: Theft from auto – 5:30 am. The owner of a 2001 Lexus told officers that sometime prior to his call to police someone broke into his vehicle through the driver’s side window and stole an iPad from inside the glove box.

4100 block of 31st Street: Theft from auto – 6:40 am. The owner of a 2001 Hyundai told officers that sometime prior to her call to police someone broke into her vehicle through the front passenger window and stole a GPS unit from inside.

3100 block of Taylor Street: Vandalism to auto – 8 am. The owner of a 2000 Honda Accord told officers that sometime prior to his call to police someone broke into his vehicle by shattering the front passenger window. The vehicle had been rummaged through but nothing was stolen from inside.

3800 block of 31st Street: Vandalism to auto – 8:30 am. The complainant told police that she came out this morning to discover that someone had broken into the 2012 Toyota she had recently rented from Enterprise Rent-a-Car. The vehicle had been rummaged through but nothing was stolen from inside.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: EPS – 11:55 pm. Officers patrolling the area observed a man acting erratically. When they approached the man to speak with him they immediately realized his behavior was the result of his use of PCP. He was taken into custody and transported to Washington Adventist Hospital where he was turned over to medical personnel for treatment. 

3200 block of Chillum Road: Criminal citation – 8:15 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

February 13th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Theft – 10:30 am. Officers met with a victim at the police station who reported the theft of her personal belongings. The victim told officers that she hired two men to assist her in moving to Mount Rainier from her prior home in Silver Spring last November. She paid the men in cash and did not get any identifying information from them. As she settled into her new apartment and began unpacking her belongings she discovered that several items had been stolen, presumably by her hired movers. She said that she had returned to the Langley park area several times in an attempt to locate the two men without success.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Vandalism to auto – 11:15 am. The owner of a 1997 Plymouth Breeze told officers that sometime between 9 am on February 12th and 11 am on the 13th someone scratched the hood of her vehicle.

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: 2nd degree assault – 5:15 pm. The victim told officers that while walking to the Sunoco station he noticed a man walking behind him. The man produced a brick and threw it at the victim. The brick struck the victim in his back with the backpack he was wearing absorbing the brunt of the impact. The victim fled the scene. Soon after, the victim realized he had dropped his cell phone and returned to try and find it but was unsuccessful. The victim told officers that he knew the suspect by face but not by name and where he lived. MRPD officers and PGPD RST detectives are following up to identify and charge the suspect.

February 12th:

4100 block of 31st Street: Emergency petition – 11:30am. Officers responded for the report of a woman who had been locked in her bedroom by her teenage son. When the officers arrived they learned that the son had made several disturbing threats to his family. He was also exhibiting very irrational behavior towards the officers. Based on the information they had at the scene, coupled with the teenager’s prior history the officers took him into custody. He was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital and released to medical personnel for a psychological examination. The mother was not injured and advised of her options with the District Court Commissioner and juvenile services.

3200 block of Chillum Road: False report – 7pm. In August of 2011 officers took a report of a stolen 1994 Buick. After receiving information from law enforcement authorities in Georgia, MRPD officers determined that the vehicle had been impounded in Georgia prior to the owner reporting it stolen in Mount Rainier; and that the owner was aware of the vehicle having been impounded. MRPD officers unfounded the original stolen auto report and obtained a criminal summons for the owner charging him with obstructing/hindering a police investigation and making a false report/statement to police.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: Carjacking – 10:05pm. The victim told officers that he and his girlfriend had just returned home from the store and were dropping groceries off in front of their residence. While they were still seated in their vehicle two unknown males approached their vehicle and opened the doors. One of the suspects then pointed a handgun at the driver and asked him to exit the vehicle and surrender all his personnel property. The victim compiled. The second suspect took the female victim’s purse. After both victims were out of the vehicle the suspects took the victims’ vehicle and fled the area on Russell Avenue towards Taylor Street.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
