Police Report: February 19-25

February 25th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Trespassing – 3am. Officers responded for the report of a person sleeping in the stairwell. Upon arrival the officers located a female sleeping in the hallway. Further investigation revealed that the woman lied to officers about her identity. After discovering her true identity she was arrested, charged with trespassing and false statement and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

31st and Shepherd Streets: Hit and run collision – 8:30am. The owner of a 1994 Olds 88 told officers that sometime between 6:30pm on the 24th and the time she called police a second vehicle struck her vehicle and failed to remain at the scene. Officers recovered the front grill of a Honda Civic and white paint on the victim’s vehicle. A lookout for a possible suspect vehicle was broadcast to surrounding jurisdictions.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Vehicle impound – 9am. Officers impounded a 2001 Buick Century for displaying improper tags.

February 24th:

3700 block of 37th Street: Vehicle impound – 9:30am. Officers impounded an unregistered 1995 Plymouth Voyager van that was displaying tags issued to another vehicle.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Theft under $1,000 – 1:40pm. Officers responded for the report of a theft from the Family Dollar store. Employees told the officers that a man came into the store, purchased several items and left. A few minutes later the man returned, placed several items in his shopping bag and left the store without paying for them. Store employees followed the man out to his car and asked him to pay for the items he just stole, whereupon he laughed at them, got into a 4-door Lincoln Mark 8 with temporary tags and fled the scene. The employees described the man as a black male in his 20’s, 6’3” tall, 220 lbs., shoulder length dreads, wearing a black coat and a black hat.

2200 block of Varnum Street: Criminal citation – 3:10pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: Traffic/vehicle impound – 11:20pm. Officers stopped a 2002 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid license. She was issued several traffic citations and her vehicle was impounded. 

February 23rd:

Nothing significant to report.

February 22nd:

3700 block of 37th Street: Theft from auto – 5am. The owner of a 2011 Nissan Sentra told officers that sometime between 7:30 pm on the 21st and the time she called police someone smashed out the driver’s side window of her vehicle and stole a GPS unit.

4000 block of 36th Street: CDS arrest – 5:40am. Officers on patrol observed a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the man did not have a valid driver’s license and was in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded.

3600 block of Perry Street: Vandalism to auto – 7:40am. The owner of a 2012 Toyota Prius told officers that sometime prior to her call to police someone shattered the back passenger window of her vehicle. She said that the interior of the vehicle had been ransacked, nothing had been stolen.

35th and Perry Streets: Criminal citation – 11:20pm. Officers investigating the report of several men smoking a CDS attempted to stop one of them for questioning. The man refused to stop and identify himself and fled the scene on a bicycle. A short time later the man returned and officers were able to detain and question him. He was found not to be in possession of any CDS or paraphernalia, nor did he have any open warrants. He was issued a criminal citation for failing to obey the officers’ initial lawful order to stop for questioning. He was released at the scene without further incident.

February 21st:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Suspicious person – 8am. A juvenile female was walking through the Queenstown apartment complex when she saw what she thought was a hat in the bushes. As the juvenile got closer a man came out of the bushes and the juvenile ran away from him. She said that as she ran away the man walked quickly behind her. She ran to a nearby friend’s house where she found shelter and called police. Officers could not locate the man she described. PGPD detectives were notified of the incident.

4200 block of 31st Street: Vandalism to auto – 8:25am. The owner of a 2010 Toyota Corolla told officers that sometime between 10 pm on the 20th and the time she called police someone smashed out the vehicle’s passenger side window and rummaged through the interior.  The victim said she conducted an inventory of her vehicle and found nothing missing.

3700 block of 35th Street: Fraud – 4:40pm. The victim/complainant told officers that he lost his wallet in Montgomery County on February 8th but was able to recover it several hours later. On February 9th the victim received a check in the mail from Kraft Foods for $40.00. He cashed the check but was later notified by his bank that the check was fraudulent. The victim’s bank told him to make a police report to document the fraud so that they could unfreeze his bank account. The victim supposes that when he lost his wallet someone used his information to send him the check.

3200 block of Chillum Road: Theft from auto – 5:30pm. The owner of a 2003 Chrysler van told officers that sometime between 11 pm on the 18th and 7 am on the 19th someone broke into her van and stole two purses. The victim delayed reporting the incident until she realized that some of her immigration documents were inside the two stolen purses.

2205 Varnum Street: Fraud – 5:30pm. Officers following up on a check fraud case from December, 2011 obtained a felony arrest warrant for the suspect. Officers attempted to serve the warrant but could not locate her.

3100 block of Arundel Road: Hit and run collision – 5:50pm. The driver of a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria owned by Blue Bird Cab told officers that as he was driving on Arundel Road a parked vehicle pulled away from the curb and struck the side of his cab. The striking vehicle, described as a silver Chevy sedan with Maryland tags fled the scene without stopping to report the collision.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Vandalism – 11:15pm. Officers conducting a routine business check at Joe’s Carryout were advised by employees that a man had kicked the front window to the business. The man was described as a black male, 18-20 years old, 6” tall with a thin build wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. A canvass of the area for the suspect was negative. At that time officers documented the incident and advised the store employees to call back when they see the suspect again.

February 20th:

3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Vehicle impound – 7:30am. Officers observed a 1999 Chrysler LHS parked displaying altered temporary registration tags. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had a suspended registration and an MSP pick up order on the tags that were supposed to be on the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.

4100 block of Rainier Avenue: Vehicle impound – 8:15am. Officers impounded an unregistered 1993 BMW.

4200 block of Kaywood Drive: Hit and run collision – 8:30am. Officers took reports of three vehicles that had been stuck buy a fourth unidentified vehicle that failed to remain at the scene after the collisions.

2200 block of Varnum Street: Theft – 12:15pm. Officers responded for the report of a shoplifting that had just occurred at the Family Dollar store. The caller told the officers that the suspect was across the street at the BP station and the officers were able to locate and detain him. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had had in his possession over $200 in merchandise he had stolen from Family Dollar. He also had in his possession merchandise believed to be stolen from other locations. He was arrested for the theft, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The officers also impounded the vehicle he was in when he was apprehended because he did not have a driver’s license and the vehicle was unregistered.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: Motor vehicle collision – 1:05pm. Officers investigated a two-vehicle collision involving a Lincoln Town Car and a Cadillac DTS. Damage to both vehicles was minor and the investigation concluded that the driver of the Lincoln failed to yield the right of way to the Cadillac and caused the collision.

2900 block of Allison Street: Vehicle impound – 6:45pm. Officers impounded a 2000 Lincoln Navigator for being illegally parked and the driver having a suspended license.

February 19th:

3200 block of Buchanan Street: Warrant service – 9:40pm. Officers responded for the report of a dispute between two men inside an apartment with possible weapon involved. When the officers arrived they determined that there were no weapons involved, however one of the men had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: Warrant service – 7:40pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had two open arrest warrants through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on charges of DWI and DUI. She was issued four traffic citations, arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
