Police Report: October 20-26

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

October 26th:

4300 block of 28th Place: Warrant service – 12:30am. Officers responded to attempt to serve an open arrest warrant on a man know to live in the 4300 block of 28th Place. The man was located and the warrant confirmed. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Rhode Island Avenue and Eastern Avenue: EPS – 7:30am. Officers responded for the report of a man walking in and out of traffic. Officers found the man in question and observed him to be under the influence of PCP. He was taken into custody and fire/rescue personnel transported him to Washington Adventist Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Theft – 5:55pm. The victim told officers that she had an argument with another woman. Before the woman left the victim’s apartment she went into the victim’s bedroom and stole her iPhone. 

October 25th:

Nothing significant to report.

October 24th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 12pm. Officers received information from the Montgomery County Police that an individual wanted by them on an open arrest warrant (parole violation) was possibly in the City. Officers were able to locate the man and arrest him without incident. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 10:15pm. On October 23rd officers obtained an arrest warrant for a woman charging her with theft of a camera. While on routine patrol officers located the woman and arrested her on the warrant. She was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

October 23rd:

3200 block of Perry Street: Theft from auto – 5:15am. Officers spoke with a witness who said that he was awakened by his dogs. When he went to see what they were barking at he saw two young black males inside his vehicle. He yelled at the two who promptly fled the area towards DC. When he went to check his vehicle he noticed that his neighbor’s 2006 Toyota Prius had been ransacked. The owner of the Prius was contacted and after checking his vehicle reported that the thieves stole $15 from inside.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: M/V collision – 7:45am. Investigation revealed that the driver of a 2001 Honda Civic failed to control his speed and rear ended a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo that was yielding to traffic in the circle. The driver of the Civic was driving on a suspended license and was cited accordingly. The Civic was impounded for safekeeping.

4300 block of 28th Place: Theft from auto – 3pm. The owner of a 2003 Lincoln Navigator told officers that he parked his vehicle early this morning. He returned this afternoon to discover that someone had broken into the vehicle through a rear passenger window and stole his stereo speakers.

3400 block of Newton Street: Attempt vehicle theft – 4:30pm. The complainant came into the police station to report that someone tried to steal her friend’s 1996 Chrysler Sebring. The complainant said that the vehicle was on loan to her and she parked it outside her house. At about 3am this morning she was awakened by her dogs and when she looked out she saw a red Jeep Cherokee parked next to the Sebring. When she went outside the Jeep drove off. She later discovered that the Sebring’s driver’s door lock and ignition were damaged consistent with an attempt to steal the vehicle. No evidence was recovered.

3800 block of 33rd Street: Theft – 9:05am. The victim told officers that he met a woman at the Mount Rainier library. After a few minutes of conversation the two retired to the victim’s residence and had a sexual encounter. After the woman left the victim noticed that his camera was missing. Officers were able to identify the thief and obtain a warrant for her arrest.

October 22nd:

Nothing significant to report.

October 21st:

3800 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 8:05am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

October 20th:

3300 block of Chillum Road: Traffic – 4:15am. Officers stopped a 1993 Cadillac for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. He was issued several traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
