Police Report: November 24-30

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

November 30th:

35th and Perry Streets: Motor vehicle collision – 2:40am. Officers responded for the report of a single vehicle collision. When they arrived they discovered that a 2010 Toyota Rav 4 left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid license and was issued several traffic citations. The vehicle was not drivable after the collision and was impounded.

2700 block of Queens Chapel Road: Vehicle impound – 3pm. Officers patrolling with an automatic license plate reader received an alert on a 2005 Scion with suspended registration plates and a pick up order for the tags. The vehicle was impounded and the tags removed for return to MVA.

November 29th:

Nothing significant to report.

November 28th:

3400 block of Rhode island Avenue: Criminal citation – 9:20am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

November 27th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Citizen robbery – 1:40am. The victim told officers that he was walking home from the West Hyattsville Metro when two black males approached him. One of the suspects grabbed the victim from behind while the other approached from the front. The suspect in front of the victim had his hand in a hooded sweatshirt pocket implying that he had a handgun. He demanded the victim’s property. The suspects then stole the victim’s cell phone and backpack and fled the area in an unknown direction. The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect that grabbed him from behind. The suspect that implied he had a weapon was described as a black male of thin build, close shaven, 25-35 years of age, about 6’2” tall and 160lbs., wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt. The victim was not injured and a search of the surrounding area for the suspects proved negative.

2900 block of Bunker Hill Road: Missing person – The mother of a 17 year old boy told officers that on November 24th at about 7am her son told her that “I have other options” and left her residence. She has not seen or heard from him since that time. The mother said that this was not the first time her son has run away from home. The boy’s information was entered into NCIC missing persons files.

November 26th:

Rhode Island Avenue and 34th Street: MV collision – 7:05pm. The driver of a 2005 Ford truck failed to yield the right of way to a 1998 Honda Accord that was already in the traffic circle. The two vehicles collided causing non-disabling damage to both.

November 25th:

4200 block of 28th Street: 2nd degree assault – 8:25am. The female victim told officers that she had been gone for a few days and when she returned she and her boyfriend got into a verbal argument about her absence. The argument turned physical when the boyfriend struck her in the hand with a shoe. The boyfriend left the residence prior to the officers’ arrival. The victim was explained her options regarding protective orders.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 2pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

November 24th:

4200 block of Russell Avenue: Vandalism to auto – 2:20pm. The owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata told officers that sometime between 5:30pm on the 23rd and the time she called police someone scratched her vehicle’s left front fender and cracked the left front tire rim and outside rear-view mirror. No evidence or witnesses were identified.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Loitering warning – 12:45pm. Officers were called to the Terminal market for the report of a man refusing to leave. Officers found the man described by store employees and escorted him out of the store. He was issued a loitering warning notice barring him from the 3400 block for a period of 30 days.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
