Police Report: September 22-28

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. September 28 th : 4000 block of 34th Street : Vehicle impound – 7:10am. Officers impounded a 1997 Dodge van after finding it parked on a sidewalk and blocking both a fire hydrant and a stop sign. 3900 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant service – 3:10pm. Officers stopped a 2003 Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Calvert County Sheriff’s office for failing to appear in court on a domestic related charge. Summary of New Laws for 2013

SB 281 Firearm Safety Act of 2013 : The Governor's firearms law that dramatically alters how firearms are purchased and used. HB 1101 Medical Marijuana : Allows academic medical centers to perform research on the medicinal affects of marijuana on a limited basis. SB 87 Seat Belts and Child Safety Seats : Requires seat belts to be used by passengers using a rear seat in a motor vehicle. A violation is a secondary offense. HB 753 Prohibition of Handheld Wireless Communication Device While Driving : Makes using a cell phone while driving a primary offense. SB 276 Death Penalty Repeal : Although legislation was passed a few years ago to increase the degree of certainty for conviction in death penalty cases, the Governor continued a moratorium on the death penalty. This law removes future cases from resulting in the death penalty. Police Report: September 15-21

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. September 21 st : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Traffic/EPS – 12:30am. Officers stopped a 1996 Ford Explorer for driving without headlights illuminated. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license and the tags on his vehicle belonged on another vehicle. He was also suspected of being under the influence of PCP. He was arrested, issued several traffic citations and delivered to a local hospital for an emergency medical examination related to the PCP. Police Report: September 8-14

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. September 14 th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Criminal citation – 11:50am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place. 2700 block of Webster Street : Warrant service – 4:15pm. Officers stopped a 1995 Nissan Maxima for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. Se

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. September 7 th : 3700 block of 34 th Street : Vandalism to auto – 12:15am. Officers responded for the report of damage to a private vehicle. The owner told the officers that she heard the sound of glass breaking coming from the area where she parked her 1999 Mercedes. When she went to investigate she saw a man sitting in her car and called police. By the time the officers arrived the suspect had fled the scene. Evidence suggested that the man got into the vehicle by breaking out the front passenger window. The victim said that she did not find anything missing from in or on her vehi

Police Report: August 25-31

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. August 31 st : 3800 block of 34 th Street : 2 nd degree assault – 10:40am. Officers responded for the report of a disorderly male. The victim told the officers that the man tried to grab her and made her feel uncomfortable. Other individuals reported that the man also tried to grab and/or hug them as well. When the officers confronted the man he began yelling obscenities at them. He was eventually arrested and charged with 2 nd degree assault and disorderly conduct and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. August 30 th : No significant occurrences for the day.
