Police Report: August 3-9

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. August 9 th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : Vehicle theft – 5:40am. The owner of a 2003 Dodge Caravan told officers that he parked and locked his van about 7:30pm on the 8 th . When he returned for the vehicle this morning he discovered it had been stolen. At about 2:20pm officers were notified by DC police that the vehicle had been recovered in the 5200 block of Chillum Place, NE. The vehicle was drivable and there were no arrests. August 2 nd : 34 th Street and Rhode Island Avenue : M/V collision – 2:55pm. Officers on patrol came upon a 2001 Chevy Tahoe that had two flat rear tires as the result of a collision. When the officers asked the driver how the collision occurred he said that a pole jumped out in front of him. The officers noted that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and further investigation revealed that he did not have a license and the vehicle was not his. He was arrested and transported to the University of Maryland PD for a blood alcohol test. The test revea

2014 Mid-Year Law Enforcement Fatalities Report

According to preliminary data compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 67 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty during the first half of 2014.
