Police Report: February 16-22

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. February 22 nd : 35 th Street and Bunker Hill Road : EPS/attempt auto theft – 3:40pm. Officers responded for the report of a woman sitting in a vehicle that did not belong to her. When the officers arrived they saw the woman trying to start the car with a set of keys that didn’t belong to it. The woman initially refused to get out of the car but the officers were eventually able to assist her getting out. The officers found her to be in an altered state of mind so they transported her to a local hospital for an emergency evaluation. Officers have applied for criminal charges against

February 15 th : 3500 block of Perry Street : Found property – 8am. Officers on patrol came across an abandoned Toshiba 23” TV/DVD player. The item had not been reported lost or stolen so officers stored the device in the MRPD property room for safekeeping. 3700 block of 36th Street : Domestic/assault on a police officer – 8:30pm. Officers responded for the report of a domestic dispute. The female half told officers that her baby’s father came over to take their child with him for a visit. Snow Emergency

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the coming winter storm expected to begin sometime Wednesday evening and continuing until Thursday afternoon.   Based on current projections of between 5-10” of snowfall the City of Mount Rainier is declaring a snow emergency beginning at 6:00pm Wednesday evening. Residents are advised not to park on established snow emergency routes after 6:00pm tomorrow. Mount Rainier Police will ticket and tow vehicles parked on a snow emergency route once snow, sleet or other mixed precipitation begins to fall. Vehicles will be removed to a safe location off the snow emergency route. Police Report: February 2-8

February 8 th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : Vehicle impound – 11am. Officers impounded a 1992 Honda Civic that was parked displaying an altered temporary registration tag. 4500 block of Russell Avenue : Vehicle impound – 5:15pm. Officers patrolling with an automated license plate reader received an alert on a 2001 VW Passat that had a suspended registration and a pick up order for the tags. Officers stopped the vehicle and verified the ALPR information. The driver was issued the appropriate traffic citations, the tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded. 450

Police Report: January 26-February 1

February 1 st : 3100 block of Chillum Road : Strong arm robbery – 2:35am. The store clerk told officers that the Suspect #1 came into the store and ordered a pizza. While the clerk was taking money for the purchase Suspect #2 went behind the counter, assaulted the clerk and stole all the money out of the cash register. Both suspects then ran from the store encountering a PGPD patrol officer who was in the parking lot. A foot chase ensued and MRPD officers along with a PGPD K-9 team and helicopter began a search for the suspects. About a half an hour later both suspects were located a

January 25 th : 4100 block of Russell Avenue : M/V collision – 2:10am. Officers investigating a M/V collision determined that a 2004 Dodge Stratus struck a 2003 Nissan Altima while making a turn off Eastern Avenue onto Russell Avenue. There were no injuries. 4500 block of 29 th Street : Stolen vehicle (recovered) – 4:15am. The owner of a 1995 Honda Accord told officers that he parked and secured his vehicle on the 24 th at about 10pm.
