Police Report: September 21-27

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. September 27 th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : Criminal citation – 3:55am. Officers stopped a man on a DiKwon scooter that ran a stop sign. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and a ticket for the stop sign and sent on his way. 4500 block of 34 th Street : Burglary – 8:35pm. The resident told officers that he and his wife went out for about and hour and a half. September 20 th : 4000 block of 29 th Street : Rogue and Vagabond – 3am. Officers attempted to stop two individuals they saw casing the area and looking into several vehicles. One of the individuals fled but the other was apprehended. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of burglary tools and that the two were in the process of breaking into cars. He was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4000 block of 36 th Street : Theft – 8:35pm. September 13 th : 3700 block of 34 th Street : Traffic – 12:35am. Officers stopped a 1995 Volvo after an ALPR identified the vehicle as having a suspended registration with a pickup order for the tags. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. He was issued several traffic citations, the tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded. 3200 block of Arundel Road : Theft from auto – 7:30am. The owner of a 1998 Honda Accord told officers that sometime between 3am this morning and the time he called police someone stole a GPS and a stereo

Police Report: August 31st - September 6

September 6 th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Warrant service – 12:30am. Officers on patrol were approached by a man asking them to check to see if he had any open arrest warrants. As fate would have it, he had an open warrant for failing to appear in court on traffic related charges. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 34 th Street and Rhode Island Avenue : Strong arm robbery – 6:40am. August 30 th : Chillum Road and Buchanan Street : Hit and run collision – 9:05am. An unknown vehicle traveling south on Chillum Road struck two parked vehicles and fled the scene. There were no witnesses to the collision. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : EPS – 5:10pm. A woman told officers that a man grabbed her by the arm and threw her into the street. Witnesses pointed the man out to the officers and when they tried to interview him about the incident they immediately recognized the signs that he was under the influence of PCP. August 23 rd : 34 th Street and Rhode island Avenue : M/V collision – 2:20am. A 2001 Toyota Solara being driven north opn Rhode Island Avenue when the driver fell asleep. The vehicle struck a parked 2013 Mini Cooper and flipped over before coming to rest. No one was injured in the collision and both vehicles were impounded due to the extent of damage from the crash. 2400 block of Arundel Road : Vehicle impound – 10:20am. Post AGAINST DC Dope Legalization

Today, the Washington Post came out AGAINST legalizing marijuana in DC. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of a CDS (marijuana). Buchanan Street and Chillum Road : Criminal citation – 1:45am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. Due to the fact that he was in physical control of a vehicle he was also issued several traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded. 38 th Street and Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant service (x2) – 4:05am.
