Police Report: May 17-23

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. May 23 rd : One Municipal Place : Disorderly – 2:10am. Officers responded to assist fire/rescue personnel with an intoxicated individual who had been injured in an assault on Edgewood Street in DC. The individual became irate and began cursing at the officers in a loud, uncontrollable manner and his behavior became too much for the paramedics to transport him to PGHC for treatment to his injuries. Officers took him into custody and transported him to Washington Adventist Hospital where he was released to the medical staff for treatment. 4200 block of Russell Avenue : Stolen vehicle

May 16 th : 4100 block of Rainier Avenue: MIR – 8:25am. While clearing the parade route for Mount Rainier Day officers encountered a vehicle in the no parking zone. Officers were able to make contact with the registered owner via phone. They learned that the owner was out of town and had been since before the signs were put up. Police Report: March 15-21

March 21 th : 2200 block of Varnum Street: Theft – 11:05am. The owner of a blue men’s mountain bike reported that he left his bike outside the Family Dollar while he ran inside. When he returned minutes later his bike was gone. Surveillance cameras revealed that at 10:47am an unknown male jumped on the bike and fled towards Russell Avenue. 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : Theft – 4:35pm. The store clerk told officers that a female entered the store took a quart of oil and brought it to the sales counter and asked for a refund. When the clerk denied the refund she began yelling,

March 28 th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street: Stolen vehicle (recovered) – 2:45am. Officers were notified by MPDC that a 2002 Dodge Caravan originally reported stolen on March 24 th was recovered on March 27 th at about 5pm in the 3900 block 7 th street NE. the ignition was found to be defeated and there were a set of switched tags on the vehicle. 3200 block of Varnum Street: Vandalism – 8:05am. The resident told officers that she returned home this morning and discovered a small hole in a living room window. The hole appeared to be the size of a pellet or BB. Upon further inspect

April 4 th : Nothing significant to report. April 3 rd : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Theft from auto – 5:20pm. The owner of a 1995 Nissan maxima reported that someone stole the rear tag off his vehicle. 4200 block of Russell Avenue: Domestic assault – 7:10pm. Officers learned that a couple got into an argument over the TV volume. The man assaulted the female during the argument. He was arrested and charged with 2 nd degree domestic assault. April 11 th : 3400 block of Rhode island Avenue: Theft – 8pm. An employee of the Balbuena Travel Agency reported that a man came into the store with two children. While the employee was distracted the man stole her cell phone and escaped on a metro bus. April 10 th : Nothing significant to report. April 9 th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Lost property – 5:45pm. A man came into the police station and reported that he lost his wallet while riding the metro. 34 th and Webster Streets : Hit and run collision – 7pm. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.   April 18 th :   3300 block of Chauncey Place : Vandalism to auto – 3:10pm. The owner of a 2006 Chevy van told officers that he discovered two of the door locks had been tampered with. The locks were damaged but no entry was made and nothing was stolen.   3800 block of Buchanan Street : 2 nd degree assault - 8:50pm. Two men told officers that they were playing soccer when they were approached by two other men who struck both victims in the face before fleeing the area.   4600 block of 29 th Street : Disorderly – 10:15pm. Officers arrested a man and charged him with disorderly co
