Police Report: October 11-17

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. October 17 th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Warrant service – 2:40am. Officers patrolling with an automated license plate reader received an alert that the registered owner of a 2001 Hyundai had an open arrest warrant. Officers stopped the vehicle and learned that the owner was in the vehicle but not driving and no longer had the open warrant. October 10 th : 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Vandalism to auto – 11:35am. The owner of a 2009 Mitsubishi told officers that she came out to her vehicle this morning and discovered the passenger side window shattered. Nothing was reported stolen from inside. 3400 block of Eastern Avenue : Trespassing – 12:25pm. Officers responded to the alley behind the 3400 block of Eastern Avenue for the report of a man urinating on the property owner. October 3 rd : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road (Family Dollar) : Theft – 5:15pm. The store clerk told officers that she gave a customer permission to take a shopping cart outside to unload their purchases into their vehicle. The clerk said that after waiting on another customer she went outside to retrieve the shopping cart and found that it had been stolen. October 2 nd : Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road : M/V collision – 12:15pm. PGC OEM Weather Brief-October 2nd

The Prince George’s County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated to a Level 3-Monitoring status. The EOC can be reached at 301-324-4350. No actions are required from local municipal stakeholders at this time. Prince George’s County is under a Flash Flood Watch until 8am on Saturday, October 3rd. Today, October 2, will be a major rain event across the County, with rain amounts of 2-3 inches and possibly higher in local area s. Rain showers should increase in intensity later in the day and should taper off sometime overnight. Winds will also continue to increase throughout the day, with speeds of 15-20 mph and gusts of 30 mph or greater. The major hazards from this event will be flash flooding, low land flooding, standing water on roadways, and trees and power lines coming down due to saturated soil and wind gusts. Rain amounts should be minimal on Saturday and Sunday, with totals not expected to exceed .25 inches across the County. Hurricane Joaquin
