Police Report: July 24-30

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

July 30th:

3300 block of Chauncey Place: MIR – 8:55pm. Officers assisted fire/rescue personnel with a forced entry into an apartment. The elderly resident called 911 after experiencing a fall. The woman was found uninjured and EMS personnel assisted her with getting safely into bed.

July 29th:

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Stolen vehicle – 9am. The owner of a 2015 Ford Mustang told officers that sometime overnight someone stole her car. No evidence/witnesses were identified.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Stolen vehicle – 11am. The owner of a 2012 Audi told officers that sometime overnight someone stole his car. No evidence/witnesses were identified.

July 28th:

4000 block of 28th Place: Warrant service – 12:35am. Officers responded to check the welfare of a man lying in the grass. They found the man and found him to be very intoxicated. Upon further investigation the officers learned that he had an open arrest warrant through the United States Marshall’s Office (Arlington, VA) for armed robbery. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Destruction of property – 3am. Officers responded for the report of a vandalism that had just occurred. When they arrived they learned that an intoxicated man was having an argument with his wife and when she would not answer the phone he broke one of her apartment windows. He also went to the front door of the apartment building and used a car jack to smash open the front door. He was arrested, charged with destruction of property and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4100 block of 28th Street: Vehicle impound – 8:35am. Officers impounded a 1995 Toyota truck that was displaying North Carolina tags that expired back in December of 2015.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: Vehicle impound – 9:15am. Officers impounded a 2000 Chevy truck that was displaying tags that were issued to another vehicle.

4000 block of 33rd Street: Vehicle impound – 10:10am. Officers impounded a 2004 Ford van that was unregistered and had no tags attached.

July 27th:

2500 block of Queens Chapel Road: Attempt theft from auto – 2:45am. The owner of a 2016 Honda told officers that he came out to check on his car after hearing the alarm sounding. He saw two black males who got into the vehicle after smashing out the driver’s side window, had silenced the alarm and were rummaging through the interior. When the owner confronted the two suspects they got into a white pickup truck and fled the scene. Nothing was reported stolen but the owner suspected that the two were looking for the key to the car’s locking wheel lugs so they could steal the tires and rims.

July 26th:

4200 block of 29th Street: Suicide – 2:20am. At about 10pm on the 25th MRPD officers, at the request of DC police, responded to check on the welfare of a man who owned a rental house in the block. The man had been reported missing to MPD by his girlfriend. The tenants of the house told the officers that they had not seen or heard from the owner and gave the officers his DC address which was all the info they had. At about 2:20am today MRPD officers responded back to the house after the owner’s girlfriend called back and said that he was taking medication for anxiety and was suffering from depression. While speaking with the residents officers checked the backyard shed and discovered the man hanging from a rope. EMS responded and pronounced the man dead. PGPD homicide detectives along with the State Medical Examiner responded to do a follow-up investigation. The ME determined that no foul play was involved and took possession of the body for a post mortem examination.

4500 block of 30th Street: Vehicle impound – 8:15am. Officers impounded a 2003 Toyota that had been previously marked for 48-hour towing.

3800 block of 35th Street: Vehicle impound – 8:25am. Officers impounded a 2004 BMW that was displaying tags that expired back in October of 2015.

4400 block of 28th Place: Vehicle impound – 12:25am. Officers impounded a 1999 Saab for displaying tags that were issued to another vehicle.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: M/V collision – 2:45pm. The driver of a 1998 Toyota had stopped for a red signal just north of the traffic circle when she was rear ended by the driver of a 2005 Chevy truck. She was taken by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation of her minor injuries. Her vehicle was disabled and had to be towed from the scene.

3700 block of 37th Street: Animal bite – 3:35pm. The victim told officers that she was walking her dog a black Lab mix dog jumped the fence of a residence and bit her. She refused medical treatment at the scene and said she would go to the hospital on her own for a checkup. The dog was contained in the basement of the residence per protocol and Animal Control was notified. Both the victim and the dog’s owner were provided with a copy of the Animal Exposure Report.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Missing juvenile – 6pm. A woman notified officers that her niece left home with an unknown Hispanic male and had not been heard from in several hours. The girl’s information was entered into NCIC missing persons files and a copy of the police report was faxed to PGPD at District I station. Officers performed a follow up at about 10pm and learned that the girl had not as yet returned home.

3100 block of Buchanan Street: Vehicle impound – 7pm. Officers impounded a 2006 Hyundai for displaying an expired Nevada temporary registration tag. The vehicle had been previously marked for 48-hour towing.

4000 block of 36th Street: Domestic assault – 8pm. Officers responded for the report of a domestic argument where the male half was armed with a knife. When they arrived they met the female victim outside and learned that the father of her child was intoxicated and assaulted both her and the child. He also accosted her with the knife and threatened to kill her. Officers were able to take the man into custody, charge him with domestic assault and deliver him to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Neither the victim not the child was injured. The victim was provided transportation to the court commissioner’s office to petition for a protective order.

July 25th:

4700 block of 31st Place: Vehicle impound – 9:20am. Officers impounded a 2006 Dodge for displaying an expired temporary tag that was registered to another vehicle.

2300 block of Arundel Road: Criminal citation – 11:40am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

July 24th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 8:55am. Officers patrolling the area stopped to speak with a man seen drinking in public. Further investigation revealed that there was an open warrant for his arrest through Prince George’s County for disorderly conduct. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
