Police Report: August 14-20

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

August 20th:

2900 block of Allison Street: Citizen robbery – 1:20am. The victim told officers that as he entered his apartment building a man accosted him with a handgun and demanded his wallet. The victim complied and the suspect fled to a waiting light blue sedan and fled towards 27th Street.

2400 block of Arundel Road: Vehicle impound – Officers impounded a 2006 BMW for displaying expired tags.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Protective order service – 11:40am. Officers served a protective order on a woman that was obtained by her boyfriend.

3500 block of Perry Street: Found property – 12:30pm. Officers took custody of a tool box that a resident found in her yard. The tool box was identified as belonging to a resident who had the box stolen from his porch on the 19th. The tool box was returned to the owner.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 3:45pm. Officers arrested a man on an open warrant through Prince George’s County for disturbing the peace.

August 19th:

2900 block of Shepherd Street: Theft from auto – 6:25am. The owner of a 2013 Chrysler came out to his vehicle this morning and discovered someone had stolen all four wheels and tires off his vehicle.

4500 block of 31st Street: Theft from auto – 7:55am. The owner of a 2015 Chevy reported that he came out to his vehicle this morning and discovered that the vehicle’s rear window was broken and his wallet was missing.

3800 block of 34th Street (Alife Market): Theft – 11:30am. The store clerk reported that a man came into the store and stole some ice cream. Officers identified the man and obtained a warrant for his arrest for the theft.

4200 block of 32nd Street: Shed burglary – 3pm. The resident told officers that someone broke into her shed by removing a pane of glass. There were two bikes stolen, a Trek road bike with red bar tape and a blue commuter road bike with tan bar tape.

3600 block of Perry Street: Theft – 5pm. The resident reported that someone stole a tool box from a cabinet on the side of his porch.

4000 block of 36th Street: Found missing person – 12:30pm. Officers assisted the Loudon County, VA Sheriff’s Gang Unit in locating a missing female juvenile who was possibly a human trafficking victim of MS-13 in Texas. The girl fled Texas to Virginia and was staying with her boyfriend in Mount Rainier when MRPD located her. She was taken into custody and with the assistance of PGPD and FBI officers were able to get her into safe housing until arraignments can be made to get her back to Texas.

August 18th:

3700 block of 35th Street: Burglary arrest – 2:20am. Officers arrested a man who forced entry into a home and began fighting with the residents. When the officers arrived the suspect tried to flee the scene on a bicycle but was apprehended and arrested a short distance away. He was charged with residential burglary and other charges.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 9:20am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

Russell Avenue and Kaywood Drive: M/V collision – 9:45am. A man reported that he came out to his vehicle this morning and discovered a blue Toyota parked with its rear bumper backed into his vehicle making contact and causing damage.

3800 block of 35th Street: Vehicle impound – 12:20pm. Officers impounded a 1998 Honda that was unregistered and displaying improper tags.

Queens Chapel Road and Buchanan Street: M/V collision – 1:15pm. Officers investigating the crash determined that a 2015 Honda, for unknown reasons, swerved off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Neither the driver nor the pole were injured/damaged.

3800 block of 35th Street: Vehicle impound – 2:20pm. Officers impounded an unregistered 1998 Dodge.

4500 block of 34th Street: Vehicle impound – 4pm. Officers impounded an unregistered 2001 Nissan for displaying fake temporary tags.

August 17th:

3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 9:35am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3700 block of 35th Street: Recovered stolen vehicle – 10:20am. Officers checking a 2000 Chevy that had all of its windows broken out discovered that it had been previously reported stolen from an address in Prince William County, Virginia.

August 16th:

3700 block of 33rd Street: Vehicle impound – 8am. Officers impounded a 2007 BMW for parking in a posted emergency no parking zone.
2900 block of Queens Chapel Road: Vehicle impound – 12:20pm. Officers impounded an unregistered 1994 Honda Accord.

3100 block of Chillum Road: Traffic – 8:10pm. Officers stopped a 1999 Mercedes for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver’s license was suspended and there was an MSP pick-up order for the tags for an insurance violation. The tags were removed for return to MVA, the vehicle was impounded and the driver charged accordingly.

3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Vehicle impound – 11:20pm. Officers patrolling with an automated license plate reader received a hit on a 2003 Acura with suspended registration and an MSP pick-up order for the tags. Officers stopped the vehicle and confirmed that the vehicle had s suspended registration. The tags were removed for return to MVA the vehicle was impounded and the driver charged accordingly.

August 15th:

3800 block of 37th Street: Violation of a protective order – 12:30am. Officers arrested a woman for violating a protective order obtained against her by one of her tenants.

3400 block of Bunker Hill Road: Death report – 6:30am. A co-worker returned home and discovered the deceased laying on the floor unresponsive. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased. PGPD Homicide detectives and the Medical Examiners were notified. No foul play was suspected.

3700 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 9:45am. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 2:25pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

August 14th:

Nothing significant to report.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
