Police Report: July 8-14

July 14th:

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: Criminal citation – 12:10am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: Child neglect – 2:25pm. Officers responded for the report of a young child running in a parking lot. When they arrived they found the 3 year old in the parking lot. Further investigation revealed that the child was left home unattended while the parents left to pick up some friends. The officers also discovered that the apartment in which the child resided was infested with insects and was not safe to stay in. Officers contacted Child Protective Services and will continue to assist in their follow-up investigation.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: Motor vehicle/pedestrian collision – 8:45am. Officers investigated a motor vehicle collision and discovered that a 35 year old female had been struck by a passing 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. The woman sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention. The driver of the Isuzu was issued multiple traffic citations and released.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: Vehicle impound – 9:40am. Officers on patrol discovered an abandoned 2002 Toyota Camry displaying Ohio tags. The vehicle had fresh body damage and its windows were broken out and part of the dash was missing. The vehicle had not been reported stolen. Officers impounded the vehicle for safekeeping.

3400 block of Newton Street: Warrant arrest – 9:10pm. Officers responded for the report of a man down. When they arrived they discovered the man lying face down in a grassy area. The officers determined that he was not in need of medical attention and that he had an open arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

July 13th:

3800 block of 34th Street: CDS possession – 10am. Officers stopped a group of suspicious individuals for a field interview. During the interview one of the individuals, a juvenile male, was found in possession of marijuana. He was arrested, charged via juvenile petition and released to the custody of his parents pending Juvenile Court action.

July 12th:

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): Theft from auto – 7:20am. The victim told officers that she pulled into the BP Gas station for gas and left the passenger side car door open with her purse on the seat. While the victim was otherwise occupied an unidentified black male entered her car and stole her purse. Witnesses reported seeing a white vehicle with temporary license tags pull up next to the victim’s vehicle. A black male got out of that vehicle’s rear passenger seat and stole the victim’s purse. The vehicle and the suspect then fled north on Varnum Street to 22nd Street and then unknown.

4000 block of 25th Street: Theft from auto – 10:15am. The owner of a 1999 Ford van told officers sometime between midnight and the time he called police someone broke out the vehicle’s driver’s side window and stole his wallet and several items of clothing from inside.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 11:50am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

4600 block of 30th Street: Lost property – 2:30pm. A man came into the police station to report that he had lost his wallet containing his driver’s license and credit cards.

3800 block of 35th Street: Criminal citation – 8:20pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

July 11th:

4600 block of 30th Street: Suspicious situation – 8:45am. The owner of a 1999 Nissan Maxima called to report that she discovered a white powdery substance covering her vehicle. Fire/rescue personnel responded to investigate the suspicious substance and determined it to be powder from a fire extinguisher. The vehicle did not sustain any physical damage.

31st and Shepherd Streets: Theft – 2pm. The owner of a 2004 Ford truck told officers that he observed an unknown black male driving a blue late model Ford Explorer drive up next to his truck. The suspect got out of the Explorer and proceeded to steal two large rolls of copper wire from the victim’s truck before fleeing the scene west on 31st Street. The copper wire had an estimated value of $500.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: Assault – 11:15pm. Officers responded for the report of a man holding a woman on the ground. When the officers arrived they separated the two and learned that the man was holding a female family member down after a dispute in which his wife caught him having an affair with a neighbor. The parties were initially sent on their way after being advised of their options with a District Court Commissioner, however, before the officers could leave several relatives and friends of the married couple arrived and a large fight ensued. With assistance from officers from the Hyattsville Police Department and the deployment of pepper spray the fight was finally brought under control. Four of those involved in the fight were charged with assault and other charges and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. One of the defendants was also found to be in possession and he was charged accordingly.

July 10th:

4300 block of 31st Street: Vandalism to auto – 3:35am. The owner of a 2004 Ford F150 truck reported that he heard what sounded like footsteps outside his residence. When he went out to investigate he discovered that someone had slashed the two tires on the driver’s side of his vehicle.

3700 block of 34th Street: Vandalism to auto (x2) – 7:45am. The owner of a 2005 Chevy Impala and the owner of a 2008 BMW reported that sometime during the overnight hours someone slashed two tires on each of their vehicles.

3300 block of Chillum Road: Criminal citation – 8:30am.  Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

3200 block of Varnum Street: 2nd degree assault – 1:30pm. Officers responded for the report of a neighbor dispute. The reporting person told the officers that she was fearful of her the neighbor who was throwing things over the fence at her. Officers observed several objects to include rocks, tree parts and large clumps of grass to come flying over the fence. Upon further investigation it was learned that the neighbors are engaged in a long-term legal dispute about who owns or has rights to land behind their respective residences. All parties were advised of their options with the District Court Commissioner. 

Arundel Road and Russell Avenue: Motor vehicle collision – 5:55pm. Officers investigated a two-vehicle collision involving a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 2008 Toyota Camry. No injuries were reported and minor damage was sustained to both vehicles.

July 9th:

3100 block of Windom Road: 1st degree assault – 10:10am. Officers responded for the report of an assault that had just occurred. When the officers arrived they spoke with the victim who said that while he was in his kitchen a man walked into the house, attacked him with a brick and picked up a knife and attempted to stab him. The suspect then fled the residence. The victim said that he recognized the suspect as a family member of the owner from whom he rents the house; and that the suspect suffers from a mental illness and has been advised not to come onto the property. The victim refused medical attention. Officers are in the process of obtaining a warrant for the suspect.

July 8th:

Chillum Road and Buchanan Street: Criminal citation – 2:40am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

3300 block of Chillum Road: Vandalism to auto – 8:20am. The owner of a 2003 Ford F150 truck told officers that sometime between 8:30pm on July 7th and 8am this morning someone slashed both rears tires of his truck.

3200 block of Varnum Street: Aggravated assault – 7pm. Officers responded for the report of a man assaulting his mother. When the officers arrived they observed the man committing the assault, with several witnesses trying to separate him from his mother. The officers were able get the man under control and under arrest. Once he was in custody he complained of chest pains and the officers transported him to Washington Adventist Hospital for medical treatment. Once he was released from the hospital he was charged with aggravated assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
