Police Report: February 25-26

February 25 : At about 3 pm officers from the Metropolitan Police Department notified MRPD that they had recovered a silver 2007 Toyota Corolla originally stolen on February 17th from the parking lot of the 7-11 store in the 3300 block of Chillum Road in Mount Rainier . MPD recovered the car in the 2500 block of Elvins Road, S.E. At the time of recovery the car was in a drivable condition, both tags were still attached, and no arrests were made. The victim/owner was notified of the recovery and responded to Elvins Road to take possession of her vehicle. February 26 (early morning) : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1:45 am officers responded to assist a man who called 911 and told the call taker that he wanted to commit suicide. MRPD and PGPD units contacted the man who told them that he was hearing the voices of animals telling him to kill himself by jumping off a bridge or hanging himself. Police Report: February 24

3700 block of 36th Street : At about 7:30 pm officers responded for the report of an armed carjacking. The victim reported that she had just parked her 2005 Nissan in her driveway when she was approached by two armed men. One of them pointed a handgun at her and ordered her out of her vehicle. As she got out, both men threw her to the ground, got into her vehicle and fled the scene up 36th Street towards Perry Street. The victim called 911 on her cell phone and the County police call taker immediately dispatched PGPD units to the scene and also transferred the call to Bladensburg PD so that MRPD units could be dispatched. Within a couple of minutes a PGPD patrol unit spotted the carjacked vehicle a short distance away in Brentwood. PGPD officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and arrested the driver before he could get away. The passenger fled on foot. Police Report: February 20-22

Friday February 20 : 3200 block of Arundel Road : At about 8 am officers responded for the report of an attempted abduction. When the officers arrived they interviewed two juveniles who told them that they were walking to school when a suspicious dark skinned black male wearing a black coat, black hat, and light blue jeans walked beside them on the way to school. They also said that the man made no verbal comment or statement to the juveniles. The officers determined that no attempt abduction had taken place. The officers made periodic checks of the area with negative results. 4300 block of 40th Street (Brentwood) : At about 3:30 pm an individual came into MRPD to report an identity theft. She told the officers that sometime within this past year person(s) used her social security number and that she received a W-2 in her name that was not hers. The officers completed a report to document the incident and also advised her to report the incident to the main credit reporting agencies.

Police Report: February 19

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 12:05 am officers observed a vehicle fail to yield in the traffic circle almost striking another vehicle. After the officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle further investigation revealed that the driver was found to be in possession of 25 individually packaged bags of marijuana having a street value of $340.00. He was arrested and transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections in Hyattsville were he was processed accordingly.

Police Report: February 18

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Thrifty Rental Car): At about 5 pm officers took a report of stolen license plates. The reporting person told the officers that sometime between 8 pm on February 17th and the time of the report person(s) unknown stole Maryland tag 3EHF62 off of a 2007 Chevy. No further information was available and no evidence or witnesses could be located. 3300 block of Chauncey Place : At about 9:15 pm officers patrolling in the Queenstown Apartments area observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. The officers stopped the vehicle and their subsequent inquiries revealed that the tags attached to the vehicle were expired and not registered to it. They also learned that the vehicle itself was unregistered in Maryland. Consequently the vehicle and tags were impounded and the driver was issued several Maryland state traffic citations. 3500 block of Newton Place : At about 9:30 pm a citizen reported that her purse had been stolen. February 17 : 3300 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 11:30 am officers responded for the report of a theft of property. The victim told the officers that a Macintosh computer valued at approximately $1,200.00 was discovered stolen from an inside store room. The victim noted that several individuals have keys to the room and there was no evidence of forced entry. The victim could not provide a serial number at the time of the report. Chillum Road at Queens Chapel Road : At about 4:30 pm officers investigated a property damage motor vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that a vehicle stopped at the traffic light westbound Chillum Road at Queens Chapel Road was struck from the rear by another vehicle. Police Report: February 13-17

February 13 : No significant incidents to report. February 14 : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 3:45 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation (speed greater than reasonable and prudent). When the officers began to question the driver they smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver was given several standard field sobriety tests and failed all of them. He was arrested for DUI and taken to the Greenbelt Police Department for a breathalyzer test. The test revealed that his BAC was .19, more than twice the legal limit. He was charged with DUI and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. February 15 : Russell Avenue & Taylor Street : At about 11:30 pm officers witnessed a blue Pontiac with Virginia tags fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. When the officers approached the driver they noticed that all four occupants of the vehicle seemed very nervous; and, that there was a very strong odor of CDS coming from inside the c

Police Report: February 12

February 12 : 4600 block of 25th Street : At about 11:15 pm officers responded for the report of a storehouse (shed) burglary. The victim told the officers that sometime between February 7th and today person(s) unknown forced entry into his storage shed and stole his blue 47 cc pocket bike. The victim provided very little information about the bike except for a partial VIN/Serial number that was located on the bike’s box that was left behind. A check of the area for witnesses and/or evidence was conducted with negative results.

Police Report: February 11

February 11 : 3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 10:30 am officers responded for a domestic dispute. Investigation revealed that the dispute started over custody of a child. Both individuals involved in the dispute were checked for outstanding warrants and the officers learned that the female half of the dispute had been reported missing through MPD on November 22, 2005, and had been subsequently emancipated (essentially declared an adult) as of 2005. MPD was notified that their missing person had been located and she was removed from the NCIC missing persons database. Both individuals were advised of their civil/legal options in the child custody dispute and sent on their separate ways. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 8 pm officers responded for the report of an attempted citizen robbery. February 9 : 33rd Street & Perry Street : At about 10:30 pm officers stopped three men for an open alcohol container violation. One of the men was found to have two open arrest warrants through the Prince George's County Sheriff’s Department for driving on a suspended license. The wanted person was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The other two individuals were issued criminal citations for the open alcohol and sent on their way without further incident. 30th Street & Arundel Road : At about 9:19 pm officers checking on a suspicious vehicle discovered that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George's County Sheriff's Department for second degree assault. She was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. February 6: 4700 block of 25th Street: At about 7:50 am officers responded for the report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that sometime during the previous evening or early morning person(s) unknown broke the passenger side door glass, entered the vehicle and stole several vehicle electronics items. A canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence proved negative. 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 10:30 am an MRPD parking enforcement officer cited and impounded a 2006 Hyundai Sonata for displaying DC tags that had expired in June of 2008. February 7 : 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : At about 10:30 am officers responded for the report of a theft. The store clerk told the officers that two men walked into the store wearing masks. Both men walked directly behind the sales counter, removed numerous items of property and left the store without paying for the items. Neither individual displayed any weapons or said anything to the clerk. Both men fled on f

Police Report: February 4

4300 block of 28th Place : At about 4:30 pm officers on patrol stopped a man for a field interview. During the interview a wanted check revealed that he was wanted through Prince George’s County for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on the open warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: February 3-4

February 3 : 4500 block of 32nd Street : At about 1:45 pm officers responded for the report of a citizen strong arm robbery. Information received from the complainant/witness revealed that two individuals, a man and a woman, had just assaulted and robbed an elderly woman of her purse and fled towards Arundel Road. The witness provided a detailed description of the two suspects, and her involvement enabled the responding officers to locate and identify both subjects who had fled to the Queens/Chillum Shopping Center. When the suspects were stopped they were found to be in possession of the victim’s purse, cell phone and other belongings. Both the witness and the victim positively identified the two as the attackers. The suspects (now defendants) were arrested and charged with assault and robbery and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. It is unlikely that we would have been able to identify and arrest these two as quickly as we did, and have such a good case against them

Police Report: February 2

3700 block of 35th Street: At about 11:45 pm officers on patrol saw two individuals walking down 35th Street yelling loud obscenities. The officers made several attempts to get the two to calm down to no avail. Both were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Police Report: January 28-February 1

January 28: Nothing significant to report. January 29: 4100 block of 31st Street : At about 12:30 am officers responded for the report of an attempted citizen armed robbery. The officers met with the victim who told them that a black male attempted to rob him on his property. The victim said that he had just pulled into his driveway and was getting out of his vehicle when he saw three black males exiting a vehicle directly across the street. The victim began walking towards the back of the house when one of the males walked across his lawn, approached him and demanded his money. The victim and his assailant began tussling during which the suspect struck him with a butt of a handgun. At this point the victim began yelling for help and the three males ran to the vehicle and fled down 31st street toward Queens Chapel Road. The victim suffered minor injuries to the left side of his face and to his neck but refused medical attention. He told the officers that nothing was taken from his pers
