The recycling issue has been resolved. Residents can now place all recyclable material in one recycle bin that will be picked up by Public Works and taken to the County recycling plant ( not the landfill ). Residents that have a large accumulation of paper that requires a special pick-up can contact Public Works to schedule the pick-up. The phone number at PW is 301-985-6583. You can also e-mail your request to Ruth Sandy at rsandy@mountrainiermd.org.

Due to equipment breakdown, the City of Mount Rainier Department of Public Works will continue to pick up bottles and cans on a weekly basis. Paper and cardboard can be held temporarily, or residents can bring these items to the public works garage during regular business hours: 9:00am until 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. In addition, regular trash service will be conducted on Wednesday or Thursday of each week until further notice. Please have your trash out for Wednesday pick up and leave it out until collected. Thanks for your cooperation.

On March 20th, members of the MRPD has an opportunity to test the Segway Personal Transporter. Mr. Bill Hopper of Segway of Annapolis brought three of the environmentally friendly (no gas, zero emmissions) machines out for us to get acquainted with. Mayor Malinda Miles encouraged me to arrange a combination demo and test night so that members of the department, the Council, and our residents could see the Segway PT in action. For about two hours, LT Jimmy Stoots, and Officers Crystal Goldring and Kirk Banton, and yours truly put the Segways through their paces. With only two wheels to sustain balance, the Segway looks a bit daunting at first, but it only took each us about five minutes of instruction to get up and running. It's really a lot easier than it looks! It didn't take long for officers Banton and Goldring to disappear to test their riding skills around the Rhode Island Avenue and 34th Street business districts.
