Police Report: July 22-28

July 28 th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : Traffic arrest – 10:50am. Officers stopped a 1996 Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a license and the vehicle’s registration was suspended. The driver was arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The vehicle was impounded. 3700 block of Bunker Hill Road : Traffic arrest – 8:15pm. Officers stopped a 2000 Ford crown Victoria for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver’s license was suspended. The officers also learned that the driver was aware of the suspension and had been stopped by the police on several occasions and issued citations for the violation. Officers arrested the driver, charged him accordingly and delivered him to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. His vehicle was impounded. 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : DWI arrest – 8:30pm. Police Report: July 15-21

July 21 st : 3200 block of Chillum Road : Theft from auto – 12:05pm. The owner of a 1998 VW Passat told officers that she parked and secured her vehicle at about 9:40am this morning. When she returned to her vehicle at about 12:05pm she discovered the passenger side window broken out and her purse missing from inside. July 20 th : 2400 block of Chillum Road : MIR – 12:45am. Officers patrolling the area were flagged down by a man who told them he had been robbed at knife point earlier in the day at the West Hyattsville Metro Station. The man said that he believed that the person who robbed him was presently sitting in front of the Mustangs nightclub at 2430 Chillum Road. Officers notified Metro Transit Police of the situation. MRPD officers responded to Mustangs and were able to locate and detain the suspect until Metro PD officers arrived to take over the investigation. 4200 block of 28 th Street : Residential burglary – 10am. Phone Scam Targets Seniors in Maryland

From ABC7 News: The FTC is warning Maryland senior citizens about a phone scam that uses the Affordable Care Act as a guise. The caller, posing as a government official, says they need to verify personal information because of the recent ruling on the healthcare law.   http://wj.la/NzJy1b

Police Report: July 8-14

July 14 th : 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : Criminal citation – 12:10am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. 3200 block of Queenstown Drive : Child neglect – 2:25pm. Officers responded for the report of a young child running in a parking lot. When they arrived they found the 3 year old in the parking lot. Further investigation revealed that the child was left home unattended while the parents left to pick up some friends. The officers also discovered that the apartment in which the child resided was infested with insects and was not safe to stay in. Officers contacted Child Protective Services and will continue to assist in their follow-up investigation. Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road : Motor vehicle/pedestrian collision – 8:45am. Officers investigated a motor vehicle collision and discovered that a 35 year old female had been struck by a passing 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. Police Report: July 1-7

July 7 th : 4100 block of 29 th Street : Stolen auto – 5:30am. The owner of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee reported that sometime prior to his call to police someone stole his vehicle from his driveway. 3200 block of Varnum Street : Breaking and Entering – 8:30pm. Officers were called to the residence by the owner who reported that an uninvited/unwanted relative forced his way into the home with the intent of stealing items that could be sold to support his drug habit. The suspect fled the residence prior to the officers’ arrival, however witnesses pointed out his direction of travel. After a brief search the man was located. Officers observed that he was intoxicated, combative and refused their commands to submit to arrest. A brief struggle ensued and officers deployed pepper spray to get the man under control and under arrest. Police Report: June 24-30

June 30 th : 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : 2 nd degree assault – 12:40am. The victim told officers that as he was walking from the Hyattsville Metro to his apartment in Queenstown two black female teenagers stopped and said hello to him. When he turned his head to say hello back to them four black males approached him from the front and started to assault him. The two females joined the assault before all six assailants fled the area. The victim did not get a good enough look at his assailants to provide a useful description. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Property damage – 6:55am. The owner of a 2006 Ford Fusion told officers that when she came out to her vehicle this morning she discovered a small hole in the front passenger window.
