Police Report: August 19-25

August 25 th : 3300 block of Chauncey Place : Vehicle impound – 12:45pm. Officers patrolling with a mobile license plate reader received a notification that the tags on a Mazda were suspended. However, the tags were displayed on a 2003 Dodge Durango. The Dodge was unregistered so it was impounded and the tags were seized for return to MVA. 4000 block of 34 th Street : Trespassing – 2:05pm. Officers responded for the report of a disorderly subject at ZZ Pizza. When the officers arrived they detained the highly intoxicated subject and learned that he had entered the restaurant and demanded food. They also learned that the owners had previously banned him from the restaurant. He was arrested, charged with trespassing and delivered to the custody of DOC in Upper Marlboro. 3200 block of Queenstown Drive : Traffic/vehicle impound – 9:50pm. New Moped and Motor Scooter Laws Take Effect October 1st

On October 1, 2012, new Maryland vehicle laws will take effect that require all motor scooters and mopeds to be titled and insured, while all operators and passengers must wear a helmet and eye protection. These new requirements are in addition to the existing law that requires all motor scooter and moped operators to possess a valid driver’s license or a moped operator’s permit. Police Report: August 12-18

August 18 th : 33 rd and Shepherd Streets : Citizen robbery – 1:30am. A man came into the police station to report that he had been robbed. The man told officers that he was walking home when he was approached by four black males who grabbed him. Three of the males assaulted the victim while the fourth man went through his pockets and stole several items of his personal property. The four then fled the scene on 33 rd Street towards Bunker Hill Road. The victim said that he could positively identify his assailants should he see them again. PGPD robbery detectives responded to take the victim’s statement and start a follow-up investigation. 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : Citizen robbery – 4:30am. The victim told officers that she accepted a ride home from two acquaintances when she left her job. Police Report: August 5-11

August 11 th : Nothing significant to report. August 10 th : 2700 block of Webster Street : Attempt stolen auto – 8:50am. The owner of a 1996 Honda Civic reported that sometime between August 9 th at 7:30pm and the time he called police someone entered his vehicle and removed his ignition in an attempt to steal the vehicle. No evidence was recovered at the scene. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Lost property – 11:05am. Officers took a report from a man who claimed he lost his identification card in the City on August 3 rd . 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Criminal citation – 12:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Party Time) : Check fraud – 1:55pm. A store employee told officers that on June 12 th an individual cashed a check later found to be fraudulent. Police Report: July 29-August 4

August 4 th : 4600 block of 30 th Street : Recovered stolen auto – 11:45pm. Officers were flagged down by a woman who told them that she had found her 2009 Mitsubishi that she had previously reported stolen to DC police. Officers found the vehicle to be in drivable condition. They also found that the owner’s tags had been removed and stolen tags affixed. The owner had her vehicle removed by a private tow company and officers seized the stolen tags. All appropriate notifications were made. August 3 rd : Nothing significant to report. August 2 nd : 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : CDS arrest – 1:40am. Officers stopped a 2001 Toyota Camry for an equipment violation. The officers smelled the odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle to speak with the driver. Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of marijuana. The 2012 National Night Out annual observance will take place on Tuesday, August 7 th .  National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) , is designed to generate neighborhood support of and participation in crime prevention efforts and to enhance police and community relations.  Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, many communities celebrate with a variety of events to help neighbors get to know one another and to build community spirit.  This is the 29th year of National Night Out observances that demonstrate a community’s commitment to keep their neighborhood free from crime.  Please join the Mount Rainier Police Department for our annual National Night Out festivities from 6-9pm along Otis Street from 35 th Street to Wells Avenue. Information Needed - 1st Degree Assault

At about 9:35pm on August 2 nd MRPD officers responded for the report of several shots heard in the 2500 block of Arundel Road. When they arrived they discovered that two men were having an argument over a cell phone. During the argument one of the men produced a handgun and fired several shots at the other man before fleeing the area in a gray Honda with heavily tinted windows. The victim was not struck or otherwise injured by the shots. PGPD detectives responded to assist MRPD with the investigation. Several witnesses were located and their statements enabled officers to get a description of the shooter, his nickname, and the area he frequents in Hyattsville. Officers are in the process of positively identifying him and obtaining a warrant for his arrest. The suspect is a dark skin black male with dreadlock style hair and tattoos on his face; and goes by the name “Jezzy.” Anyone with information in this case should call MRPD at 301-985-6565/6566.
