Police Report: April 30 - May 6

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. May 6 th : 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : Hit and run collision – 4:35pm. The owner of a 2002 Nissan Maxima told officers that he came out to his vehicle and discovered that the driver’s door had been sideswiped leaving a paint transfer and a dent in the door. The incident occurred sometime after he parked the vehicle on the 5 th at about 6:30pm. No evidence or witnesses were identified. 3500 block of Otis Street : Missing person – 9:10pm. Police Line-of-Duty Deaths 2016

Preliminary statistics released by the FBI show that 66 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2016. This is an increase of 61 percent when compared with the 41 officers killed in 2015. By region, 30 officers died as a result of criminal acts that occurred in the South, 17 officers in the West, 13 officers in the Midwest, four in the Northeast, and two in Puerto Rico. At the time the 66 law enforcement officers were fatally wounded: §   17 were ambushed (entrapment/premeditation); §   13 were answering disturbance calls (seven were domestic disturbance calls); §   nine were investigating suspicious persons/circumstances; §   six were engaged in tactical situations; §   five were performing investigative activities; §   four were conducting traffic pursuits/stops; §   three were investigating drug-related matters; §   three were victims of unprovoked attacks; §   one was answering a robbery in progress call or pursuing a robbery susp

Attempt to Identify Commercial Burglary Suspects

At about 12:30am this morning the Terminal Marketplace located at 3414 Rhode Island Avenue was burglarized by at least two individuals. One or more of these ind ividuals returned to the business later in the morning and stole additional merchandise. The store’s video surveillance system captured images of the suspects which are included below. Anyone with information about this crime or the identity of one or more of the suspects is encouraged to call Mount Rainier Police at 301-985-6580.

Police Report: April 23-29

April 29 th : 3100 block of Windom Road : Lost property – 10:25am. The reporting person told officers that she last saw her cell phone at approximately 1:30am when she returned home from an Uber trip and plugged it into the charger in her kitchen. When she went back for the phone sometime later it was no longer there. The victim said that the house was locked and secure. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence. 3700 block of Wells Avenue : MIR – 3pm.
