Police Report: April 24-26

Friday April 24th:

Nothing of interest to report.

Saturday April 25th:

3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 10:10 am officers on patrol observed a red pickup truck parked in the roadway. When they approached the truck to check on the occupants they discovered that two of them were consuming open alcoholic beverages. Both individuals were issued criminal citations for the alcohol violation.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 10:30 am officers were conducting a traffic enforcement detail around the traffic circle when they observed the driver of a black Acura not wearing his seatbelt. When the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana wafting from the vehicle. Upon further investigation the officers seized two bags of marijuana having a street value of $790.00. The driver was arrested, charged with several traffic and criminal violations and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4500 block of 38th Street: At about 5 pm officers on patrol observed a vehicle with only one license plate attached. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and their check of the driver revealed that he had an open arrest warrant through Prince Georges County for disorderly conduct. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3700 block of 36th Street: At about 11:00 pm an individual came into the MRPD headquarters to report that he had been robbed. He told officers that he was walking down the street at about 10:50 pm when two unknown black males struck him in the head from behind. When he fell to the ground the suspects stole his wallet and fled in an unknown direction. He victim said that he never even saw the suspects walking up behind him. The victim refused medical treatment for his minor injuries. A canvass of the area for the two assailants was negative.

Sunday April 26th:

3200 block of Arundel Road: At about 9:20 am officers received a call for a vehicle blocking a driveway. When the officers arrived they discovered that a 2008 silver Ford Fusion was blocking a private driveway. The vehicle was a rental vehicle and the lessee could not be located. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the leasing company was notified.

2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 12:25 pm offices were conducting a laser speed enforcement detail and stopped a vehicle for exceeding the posted speed limit. A check of the driver’s license status revealed that he did not have a license. The officers also discovered that he had an open arrest warrant and he was arrested pursuant to the warrant and transported to DOC in Hyattsville for processing. Once at the jail the individual told the officers that he had lied about his identity. When he told them who he really was the officers discovered that he was still wanted for crimes in Montgomery County. As a bonus, while being searched at the jail he was found to be in possession of 43 individual bags of crack cocaine having a street value of $8,600.00. He was charged accordingly and left in the custody of DOC.

2300 block of Arundel Road: At about 4:35 pm officers on patrol observed an individual consuming an open alcoholic beverage in the parking lot of Grand China restaurant. Officers stopped the man, issued him a criminal citation for the alcohol violation and sent him on his way.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: At about 5:25 pm officers were on a traffic stop at the intersection of Queens Chapel and Chillum Roads when they observed a man repeatedly punching a female in the face. The officers immediately separated the two subjects and discovered that the two were having a domestic dispute. The male half was arrested, charged with assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night.
