Police Report: April 29 to May 5

May 5th:

3400 block of Otis Street: Vandalism to auto – 1:05am. The owner of a 2008 Nissan told officers that sometime between 10pm on May 4th and the time she called police someone broke out her vehicle’s driver’s side window. No other damage was reported and nothing was stolen from inside the vehicle.

4200 block of 34th Street: DWI – 12:40am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. She refused to submit to a chemical test for alcohol. She was charged with DWI/DUI and other traffic charges and released at the scene. Her vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 3:50pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

2300 block of Arundel Road: Criminal citation – 7pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public in the parking lot of the Grand China restaurant.

2300 block of Varnum Street: Criminal citation – 7:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

4300 block of 28th Place: 2nd degree assault – 7:15pm. Officers responded for the report of an assault that had just occurred. When the officers arrived they spoke with three females ranging in age from 24 to 16 who told them that as they were walking from their vehicle to a nearby party a burgundy colored conversion van pulled up with two males inside. The males asked the females for their phone numbers. When the females were not interested in providing their numbers the males got out of the van. One of the males threw a drink in the face of one of the girls. One of the other girls then attempted to get the male to step back and he punched her in the face with a closed fist. He then sprayed pepper spray in the girls’ faces and the two men fled the scene. A search of the area for the two men proved negative.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: Criminal citation – 7:50pm. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for urinating in public.

Rhode Island Avenue and 34th Street: Motor vehicle collision – 10:15pm. Officers on patrol discovered that an intoxicated man on a bicycle ran into the front fender of a vehicle that was driving through the traffic circle. The man sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The vehicle that was struck did not stop and fled into the District of Columbia.

May 4th:

3500 block of Otis Street: Stolen vehicle (recovered) – 8:30am. Officers received a report from the Prince George’s County Police stating that they recovered a 2003 Dodge Caravan stolen from the 3500 block of Otis Street on May 2nd. The vehicle was found in the 2200 block of Columbia Avenue in Kentland and no arrests were made.

Queens Chapel Rd and Buchanan Street: Motor vehicle collision – 10:35am. Officers responded for a two-vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that the driver of a 2010 Chevy Impala failed to reduce speed to avoid colliding with the rear end of a 2011 Mazda.

3300 block of Bunker Hill Road: Harassment/Stalking – 2pm. Officers spoke with a woman who told them that a man had been harassing her and stalking her for several years and just recently started again. Officers searched the area and were able to locate and arrest the man. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Attempt stolen auto – 2:25pm. The owner of a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer told officers that sometime between 1am on May 3rd and 1pm today someone attempted to steal his vehicle by breaking the door lock and the ignition.

4600 block of 29th Street: Attempt stolen auto – 2:25pm. The owner of a 1995 Jeep Cherokee told officers that sometime between 9pm on May 3rd and 9:30am this morning someone attempted to steal his vehicle by breaking the door lock and the ignition.

3200 block of Arundel Road: DWI/traffic – 8:50pm. Officers stopped a 2000 GMC Yukon for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and did not have a driver’s license. He was charged accordingly and his vehicle was impounded.

4200 block of 34th Street: Hit and run collision/stolen vehicle – 11:40pm. Officers responded for the report of a hit and run collision. The owners of a 2002 Land Rover told the officers that a U-Haul truck struck their legally parked vehicle near the corner of 34th Street and Rhode Island Avenue. The U-Haul truck then fled into the District of Columbia. Further investigation revealed that the U-Haul truck had been stolen earlier by an individual who was helping some friends move. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and the subject. The subject was arrested and the U-Haul truck was impounded.

May 3rd:

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: DUI arrest – 12:45am. Officers responded for the report of a 2-vechile collision. The driver of the at-fault vehicle was administered a battery of standard field sobriety tests which he failed. He was transported to the MSP barracks in College Park for a breathalyzer test. The results of the test showed he had a BAC of .17, over twice the legal limit. He was charged with DWI/DUI and other charges relating to the collision and released. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Hit and run collision – 9:30pm. The owner of a 2010 Toyota Rav4 told officers that when she returned to her car from shopping she observed damage to her right rear bumper and quarter panel. The damage was consistent with a collision with a second vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

May 2nd:

4000 block of 29th Street: Vehicle impound – 1:30pm. Code enforcement officers impounded a 1983 Dodge truck for displaying stolen license plates.

3500 block of Otis Street: Stolen vehicle – 3:55pm. The owner of a 2003 Dodge Caravan told officers that sometime between 11:30am this morning and the time she called police someone stole her van.

3600 block of Bunker Hill Road: Citizen robbery – 9:30pm. The victim told officers that as he was walking along the block he was approached by a man who said something to him that he did not understand. The man proceeded to strike him in the face, steal his cell phone and flee the area towards 38th Street. The victim was unable to describe his assailant. He sustained a severe bruise under his left eye and refused medical treatment at the scene.

May 1st:

3400 block of Newton Street: Juvenile dispute – 7:25am. Officers responded for the report of a dispute between two juveniles. The officers learned that a young juvenile female had an altercation with a slightly older juvenile male. Officers were able to mediate the situation and assisted the parents of both juveniles in understanding the chain of events that led up to the incident. Officers then sought assistance from the school guidance counselor to further mediate the situation.

4100 block of 32nd Street: Hit and run collision – 11:20am. The owner of a 2007 Honda Accord told officers that sometime between 4am on April 27th and 11:40 on the 30th another vehicle backed into hers causing damage to the front end.

4300 block of 34th Street: Vandalism to auto – 11pm. The owner of a 1998 Toyota told officers that he was driving east bound on 34th Street approaching Upshur when an unknown subject threw a rock at his vehicle. The rock broke out his rear passenger side window. The victim said that the rock was thrown by someone standing in the driveway of the apartment building located at 4306 34th Street. Officers were unable to locate any suspects.

April 30th:

3400 block Rhode Island Avenue: DWI/DUI – 3am. Officers stopped a 2005 Mercedes Benz after they witnessed the vehicle strike a traffic control device at the traffic circle. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver refused to submit to alcohol testing and was issued the appropriate traffic citations and license suspension and released. The vehicle was impounded.

4500 block of 32nd Street: Theft over $1,000 – 12pm. The victim told officers that sometime between 10am on April 29th and the time he called police someone stole a new A/C unit from the side of his house.

4000 block of 36th Street: Hit and run collision – 3:30pm. The owner of a 2007 Mercedes told officers that sometime between 11pm on the 26th and 7am on the 27th another vehicle collided with and did damage to his vehicle.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Theft over $1,000 – 5:20pm. The owner of a 2008 Taizhou scooter told officers that he locked his scooter to a pole at about 1am on the 29th. When he returned for it this afternoon he discovered that it had been stolen.

April 29th:

4200 block of Rainier Avenue: Missing juvenile – 8:45pm. The mother of a 14 year old male juvenile reported that her son failed to return home as expected and was last seen at about 6:30pm. The juvenile’s information was entered into NCIC missing persons files. At about 9:30pm officers received a call from the University Park Police Department informing them that the juvenile had been located and was in good health. The mother was notified and was on her way to UPPD to pick up her son. The juvenile’s information was removed from NCIC.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
