Police Report: May 6-12

May 12th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: DWI arrest – 3:30am. Officers responded for the report of a single vehicle collision. When the officers arrived they located the driver and noticed a strong odor of alcohol about his person. He submitted to standard field sobriety testing and failed each of the tests. He refused to submit to further blood alcohol testing. He was charged with DUI/DWI by citation and released. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

4200 block of 34th Street: Mutual aid – 11pm. MRPD officers assisted members of the Prince George’s County Gang Task Force, Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshal’s agents with the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in the County. Intelligence revealed that the suspect was at a gathering of about 20 MS13 gang members at an address on 34th Street. Task force members raided the gathering and took the suspect into custody without incident. All others present at the gathering were photographed and documented for further investigation.

May 11th:

4000 block of 34th Street: Vehicle impound – 9:30am. Officers impounded a 1997 Toyota Corolla after observing the owner pushing it down the street because it ran out of gas. The officers also learned that the owner did not possess a valid driver’s license.

2200 block of Varnum Street (Family Dollar): Theft – 9:25am. The store manager told officers that a black male came into the store and stole a bottle of shampoo and a Wahl shaver and fled the store in an unknown direction.

3800 block of 34th Street: Vandalism - 2:45pm. The apartment manager told officers that on May 10th at about 11am she secured and locked apartment #1 because it was presently vacant. When she returned this afternoon she discovered a rear bedroom window had been broken out.

3200 block of Chillum Road: Trespassing – 7:35pm. Officers responded to assist security personnel with several individuals they had stopped for suspected CDS activity. When the officers arrived the identified one juvenile in the group who had been previously banned from the property. He was arrested, charged with trespassing via a juvenile petition and sent on his way.

3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): Theft – 10:25pm. The store clerk told officers that three black female juveniles came into the store and stole three packages of cookies, three bags of chips, two sandwiches and three Slurpees. The three fled the area in an unknown direction.

May 10th:

3800 block of 33rd Street: Loose dog – 6:25am. Officers responded for the report of a dog running loose in the neighborhood. When the officers arrived they encountered a large white American Bull Dog/Pit Bull mix loose in the street. As one officer got out of his police vehicle the dog charged at him. The officer attempted to retreat but was forced to fire his service weapon at the attacking animal. The dog died as a result of being struck by the officer’s gunfire. No one else was injured during the incident and there was no property damage.

3700 block of 34th Street: Motor vehicle collision – 8:20am. Officers responded for the report of a 2-vehicle collision. Their investigation revealed that the driver of the at-fault vehicle traveling SE on 34th Street attempted to make a left turn into a driveway and struck a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  One of the occupants of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital by fire/rescue personnel for treatment of minor injuries.

May 9th:

4000 block of Cedar Lane: Warrant service – 10:05am. Officers observed a woman drinking an alcoholic beverage in public and stopped to issue her a criminal citation. Further investigation revealed that she had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for violation of probation. She was arrested on the warrant and a search incident to arrest revealed that she was in possession of narcotic paraphernalia. She was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Theft from auto – 10:35am. The owner of a 2006 Chevy Impala told officers that sometime during the overnight hours someone gained entry into his vehicle by smashing out a side window and stole several items of her personal property from inside.

3400 block of Newton Street: Recovered stolen auto – 6:40pm. Officers responded for the report of an unoccupied suspicious vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the 1998 Chrysler minivan had been previously reported stolen. The vehicle was recovered and impounded for safekeeping.

May 8th:

Nothing significant to report.

May 7th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 11:20pm. Officers stopped a 2006 Mercedes for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince Georges County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving while her license was suspended. She was issued four State traffic citations, arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

May 6th:

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: Stolen vehicle – 10:20am. The owner of a 1996 Honda Accord told officers that sometime between 6pm on May 5th and the time he called police someone stole his vehicle.

4200 block of 34th Street: Warrant service (x2) – 11:40am. Officers responded for the report of a domestic argument. When the officers arrived they discovered that both parties to the argument had numerous open warrants through Prince George’s County for traffic related offenses. Both parties were arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Attempt stolen auto – 11:45am. The owner of a 1996 Honda Accord told officers that sometime between 6pm on May 5th and the time he called police someone damaged the vehicle’s door lock and ignition module in an obvious attempt to steal the vehicle.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
