Police Report: January 8

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 11 am officers on patrol observed a male subject consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. The individual was stopped for the violation and a subsequent warrant check revealed that the individual had an open warrant through the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 11:45 pm the MRPD/Brentwood patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose tags were suspended and for which a Maryland State Police pick-up order had been issued. When the officer approached the vehicle he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. The driver was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest. In a search of the vehicle incident to the driver’s arrest officers discovered a small amount of marijuana and a fully loaded 9mm handgun. A check of the gun through NCIC revealed that it had been stolen from a location in Virginia and was one of 75 guns stolen from a single location. Additional investigation revealed that the driver had a previous felony conviction making his possession of the stolen handgun also a felony. He was transported to DOC in Hyattsville where he was charged with numerous criminal and traffic violations. Officers notified federal authorities at ATF of the gun recovery and ATF will be following up with additional federal charges.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .
