Police Report: March 23

2500 block of Arundel Road: At about 7:20 am officers took a report of an attempted stolen auto. The officers found that someone broke into the victim’s car through the sunroof and once inside tried to steal it by manipulating the ignition. The thieves were not successful. No evidence was found that would assist officers in identifying those responsible.

2900 block of Allison Street: At about 7:30 am officers took a report of an attempted theft from auto. The officers learned that someone broke into the victim’s car through the sunroof and attempted to steal the car’s stereo. The thieves were not successful. Although the officers found no evidence they believe that the same person(s) who tried to steal the car on Arundel Road were also involved in this crime.

3000 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 7 pm officers took an unattended death report. A 74 year old man was found unresponsive in his apartment after fire/rescue personnel forcibly entered the apartment to check his welfare. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. There were no signs of foul play. Doctors and relatives reported that the decedent had a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. The State Medical Examiner responded to the scene to sign off on the death certificate and the decedent’s remains were released to his family.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: At about 10 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary. The resident told the officers that someone had broken into his apartment and stole a .25 caliber Raven Arms semi-automatic handgun along with his reading glasses. The officers found no signs of forced entry into the apartment and no additional evidence. The handgun was entered into NCIC stolen property files.

Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
