Police Report: December 9-15

December 15th:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Motor vehicle collision – 12:45am. Officers responded for the report of a vehicle blocking the roadway. When the officers arrived they found the vehicle in question occupied by a man who was asleep in the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed that the man had backed into a parked vehicle. Officers also found an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. The driver was cited for open container and blocking the flow of traffic. His vehicle was impounded.

4100 block of Russell Avenue: Motor vehicle collision/emergency petition – 4:35am. Officers responded for the report of a man down. Upon arrival the officers learned that an individual was involved in a minor motor vehicle collision and was not injured. Further investigation revealed that the man failed to pay full time and attention and struck a parked vehicle causing minor damage. He was issued a traffic citation and his vehicle was impounded. During the officers’ investigation they observed that the driver was acting very emotionally and made comments about wanting to go to jail or someone was going to die. The driver was very distraught about a recent death of a family member. He was taken into custody and transported to Washington Adventist Hospital where he was released to medical personnel for an emergency psychiatric evaluation. 

3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Motor vehicle collision – 6:20pm. Officers responded for the report of a collision involving a motorcyclist. When the officers arrived they learned that the motorcyclist laid his motorcycle down in order to avoid colliding with a vehicle which was making a legal U-turn. The motorcycle sustained minor damage and the there were no reported injuries.

2400 block of Chillum Road: Traffic – 9:55pm. Officers stopped a 2006 Dodge Charger for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. She was issued the appropriate traffic citations and her vehicle was impounded.

3300 block of Chillum Road: Traffic – 11:55pm. Officers stopped a 2001 Jeep Cherokee for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was not properly registered. The driver was issued the appropriate traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded.

December 14th:

3500 block of Perry Street: Emergency petition – 10:30pm. Officers responded for the report of a disturbance in the street. When they arrived they confronted a woman obviously under the influence of PCP. She was extremely impaired and although fully awake was unresponsive to the officers’ attempts to provide assistance. She was taken into custody and transported to Washington Adventist Hospital where she was released to medical personnel for treatment.

December 13th:

3000 block of Shepherd Street: Theft – 12:20pm. A resident came into the police station to report the theft of a package delivered to his residence. The victim told officers that UPS delivered the package to his front porch on December 3rd. When he came home that day he discovered that the package had been stolen.

Buchanan Street and Queens Chapel Road: DWI – 8:30pm. Officers responded for the report of a collision between a car and a bus. When the officers arrived they found the driver of the car still in his vehicle and saw open bottles of vodka inside the vehicle. Further investigation gave officers reasonable suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the Maryland State Police barrack in College Park for a blood alcohol test. The test revealed a BAC of .24, which is three times the legal limit for intoxication. Officers also learned that the driver’s license was suspended for a DWI/DUI charge on September 16th, 2012. He was charged with DWI, transported to his place of residence and released. His vehicle, a 2012 Chevy Impala, was impounded.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Emergency petition – 10:45pm. Officers on patrol observed a man walking along the block screaming wildly and acting erratically. Before officers could stop the man on the street he entered Party Time Liquors and began to create a disturbance. As officers escorted the man out of the store he began swinging his fists and arms at them. Officers were forced to deploy pepper spray to get the man under control and in custody. He was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital and released to medical staff for treatment.

 December 12th:

Nothing significant to report.

December 11th:

2400 block of Chillum Road: Warrant service – 9:35pm. Officers on patrol were stopped by a man who told them he possibly was the subject of an open arrest warrant. Further investigation revealed that he did indeed have an open warrant through Charles County for traffic related charges. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of Charles County Sheriff’s Deputies.

December 10th:

4600 block 25th Street: Theft from auto – 7:55am. The owner of a 2008 Nissan Sentra told officers that sometime between 6:30pm on the 9th and the time she called police someone smashed out the front passenger window of her vehicle and stole a quantity of household paper products from inside.

3800 block of 31st Street: Emergency petition – 7:10pm. Officers responded for the report of a man removing his clothes in a neighbor’s front yard. When the officers arrived they recognized the man as an habitual PCP user who was again under the influence of the drug. He was taken into custody and delivered to medical personnel at Washington Adventist Hospital for treatment.

December 9th:

4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): Stolen auto – 3:35pm. The owner of a 2006 Infinity G35 told officers that while speaking with some friends he left his car keys in the ignition and his vehicle running. The owner observed an unknown male enter his vehicle via the driver’s side door and flee the area with the vehicle west on Eastern Avenue. A search of the area failed to locate the vehicle or the thief.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night.
