The National Weather Service (NWS) reports they are monitoring 3 weather related threats to the DC area starting this afternoon and into the night; high winds, a line of thunderstorms, and rainfall accumulations. The NWS predicts wind gusts around 35-40 MPH starting in the early afternoon hours. The NWS is also monitoring threats of a line of thunderstorms approaching the District of Columbia from the west which is expected to reach the area between 7 and 10 PM. The storms have the potential to produce heavy rainfall and wind gusts up to 70 MPH. The NWS reports this line of thunderstorms is fast moving and will last around 15 to 20 minutes with residual rainfall immediately following. The DC area should expect up to 2 inches of rainfall. Additionally, the NWS has issued a coastal flood advisory for the District of Columbia from 7PM this evening to 3AM tomorrow morning. High tide at the Bladensburg Waterfront will be at 10:43pm tonight and the N WS expects water levels to increase

Officers patrolling using a mobile license plate reader were alerted to a 1999 Ford Expedition that had a suspended registration and an MSP pick up order for the tags. The tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded. 4300 block of 28 th Place : Warrant service – 4:45pm. Officers responded for the report of several individuals loitering in the basement of an apartment building. Officers discovered two individuals in the basement. An employee of Kay Management discovered that the registration sticker had been stolen off the rear tag of a company owned 2004 Ford F150 truck. The employee could not advise when the sticker was stolen or for how long the theft went unnoticed. 3400 block of Eastern Avenue : Vandalism – 10am. The resident told officers that someone had thrown green paint on the door and siding of his apartment. The resident also said th

January 12 th : 4300 block of Russell Avenue : Domestic assault – 10:30am. Officers responded to the police station to meet with the victim of a domestic assault. The woman told officers that she and her boyfriend got into a verbal argument over the boyfriend’s Instagram account. The argument turned physical and the woman told officers that her boyfriend choked her until she almost passed out. The officers saw that the victim had scratches on her neck consistent with being choked. Officers responded to the couple’s residence where they arrested the boyfriend, charged him with 2 nd d

Only 11 days until Inauguration day. Metro is preparing to transport hundreds of thousands of visitors on Inauguration Day 2013. As in past years, Metro is planning an increased level of service to accommodate the high ridership. As you make plans to travel on this historic day, please use the information below as a guide. Additional details, as well as important links (walking maps and a visitor’s kit), are listed in Metro’s Inauguration website: www.wmata.com/inauguration . • METRORAIL: Metrorail will open at 4 a.m. and close at 2 a.m. Metrorail will provide 17 consecutive hours of rush-hour service -- from 4 a.m. until 9 p.m. Peak fares will be in effect during that time. Archives, Mt. Vernon Square and Smithsonian stations will be closed on Inauguration Day. Several downtown Metrorail station entrances will be designated as "entry only" or "exit only" to safely manage crowds. Some escalators will be intentionally turned off to regulate the flow of customers.

Officers impounded a 2009 Toyota Corolla for displaying registration plates that expired in January of 2012. 2700 block of Webster Street : Vehicle impound – 8:50am. Officers impounded a 1996 Acura for displaying registration plates that expired in April of 2012. 3800 block of 34 th Street : Criminal citation – 9:55am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Criminal citation – 8:45pm. Officers responded for the report of a disturbance inside a business. Further investigation revealed that a woman urinated on the floor of the business after a dispute over a purchase. The woman was removed from the business and issued a criminal citation for urinating in a public place. After the woman was released the officers received information from Communications that she had an open arrest warrant through the Prince

December 29 th : 2700 block of Allison Street : Stolen vehicle – 6:15pm. The owner of a 1997 Plymouth van told officers that he lent his vehicle to a friend. The friend left the vehicle running and unattended whereupon it was stolen by an unidentified black male. The friend was issued a traffic citation for unattended motor vehicle. While investigating the vehicle theft officers learned that the vehicle’s owner had an open arrest warrant through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 2500 block of Que
