Crime Update

Carjacking in the 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue that occurred on August 3rd: No additional information has come to light in this case. The suspect was arrested in DC after crashing the victim’s car and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and other traffic charges related to the crash. PGPD detectives are screening the case with the State’s Attorney’s Office to see if charges can be placed against the suspect here in Maryland.

 

Homicide that occurred on August 5th in the 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: PGPD homicide detectives continue to investigate the case, however no solid leads have been developed. MRPD officers have been working with PGPD to identify and question several potential witnesses but no additional information has come out of those interviews.

 

Contact shooting that occurred on August 3rd: PGPD detectives developed a suspect and uncovered sufficient information to secure a search and seizure warrant for the suspect’s residence in Lothian, Maryland. During the search of the suspect’s residence detectives recovered a handgun possibly used in the crime. They subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Delonte Ricardo Lewis charging him with attempted first degree murder and other charges. Mr. Lewis was arrested on the warrant and committed to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

 

Additional information on the two remaining open cases will be shared as it becomes available.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .
