Police Report: Week of June 5 - 11

June 5th:

4000 block of 33rd Street: CDS arrest – 12:15 am. Officers responded for the report of disorderly individuals in the roadway. The officers located two subjects sitting in a parked vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the two individuals were in possession of marijuana. The officers were able to arrest one of the two, however the driver fled the scene before officers could take him into custody. They were later able to identify the driver and obtain a warrant for his arrest.

3600 block of Eastern Avenue: Domestic assault – 10 am. Officers were called to the report of a domestic dispute where they discovered a woman who had been severely assaulted by her husband who had fled the scene. The officers assisted the victim with obtaining an arrest warrant for her husband and a protective order. They also arraigned for her to stay at a safe house for the night.

3200 block of Chillum Road: Warrant service – 5:45 pm. On May 31st officers obtained an arrest warrant charging a man with attempted rape and assault. Today officers located the man by telephone and convinced him to surrender on the warrant. The man complied and officers met the man at the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was arrested.

4200 block of Eastern Avenue: Missing person – 11:15 pm. The mother of a 21 year old woman came into the police station to report her daughter missing. The two had recently had some domestic issues and the woman had not been in contact with family or friends for several days. The woman’s information was entered into the NCIC missing persons database.

June 6th:

3700 block of 35th Street: Recovered stolen vehicle – 7 pm. Officers responded to check the welfare of a man lying in the grass. The man was in good condition but the officers discovered that he was in possession of the keys to a 2006 Dodge Charger which was parked nearby and which had been reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County. The tags attached to the vehicle had also been reported stolen. The man was arrested and charged with various counts of theft. A search of his person incident to his arrest revealed he was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana and was charged accordingly. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and PGPD was notified of the recovery.

3200 block of Perry Street: Theft from auto – 8:20 pm. The owner of a 2008 Nissan reported that several personal items had been stolen out of his vehicle. The victim was not sure if he had locked his vehicle when he parked it in front of his residence.

June 7th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal Citation – 10 am. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 2:50 pm. A man who independently discovered that he had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a trespassing charge voluntarily surrendered to officers at the police department.

3200 block of Varnum Street: Theft from auto – 7 pm. The owner of a 2006 GMC Yukon reported that sometime between May 30 and the time of the report someone stole several of his personal items from inside his truck. The officers could not determine how the thief got into the truck, but they did note that there was no evidence of damage to the vehicle’s doors, locks or windows.

June 8th:

4000 block of 36th Street: Child neglect – 10 am. Officers responded for the report of children in need of assistance. They discovered them in an apartment with no electricity and in a condition that was not healthy for the children. Prince George’s County Child Protective Services responded and took custody of the children. CPS will conduct a further investigation to determine what charges, if any, could be brought against the parents. Mount Rainier Code Enforcement officers inspected the apartment and determined that it is uninhabitable.

3300 block of Otis Street: Warrant arrest – 9:20 pm. Officers responded for a report of loud music. When they arrived they discovered that the man playing the music was the same man they have been trying to locate and arrest on an outstanding warrant for domestic assault. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: DWI arrest – 10:45 pm. Officers stopped a 2000 Chevy van that was driving erratically and almost hit a police car head on. The driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged accordingly.

June 9th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal Citation – 3 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.

3300 Block of Otis Street: Theft from auto – 9:10 pm. The owner of a 2000 Chevy van reported that sometime between 10 am and the time of the report someone entered his van and stole several personal items. There were no signs of forced entry.

June 10th:

3700 block of Wells Avenue: Theft from auto – 7 am. The owner of a 2011 Chevy Malibu reported that sometime during the previous night someone stole a backpack and change from inside his unlocked vehicle.

3200 Queenstown Drive: Residential burglary – 10:15 am. The resident reported that a man described as a dark skin black man with a corn-row hairstyle forced entry into her apartment through the front door. The resident woke her boyfriend who went looking for the man only to find he had left the apartment. She told officers that she can identify the suspect and believes she has seen him in the area in the past.

2900 block of Queens Chapel Road: CDS arrest – 8:30 pm. Officers received a call for several disorderly individuals. The officers located the group and subsequent investigation revealed that one of them, a juvenile, was in possession of 5.4 grams of marijuana. He was charged with possession of a CDS via a juvenile petition and released to his mother. 

June 11th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Warrant arrest – 1:30 am. Officers stopped a 2010 Dodge Charger suspecting the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and charged with DWI/DUI. A passenger in the vehicle was found to have an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for theft over $500. He was arrested on the warrant. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

4600 block of 30th Street: Traffic/vehicle impound – 7:45 am. Officers impounded a 1996 Toyota Avalon because the driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

3800 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 8 am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

2600 block of Queens Chapel Road: Traffic/vehicle impound – 9 am. Officers impounded a 2003 Cadillac Escalade because the driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

4300 block of Kaywood drive: Vandalism to auto – 9:50 am. The owner of a 1992 Toyota Corolla reported that someone shattered the rear driver’s side tail light.

4600 block of 25th Street: Traffic/vehicle impound – 9 am. Officers impounded a 2008 Volvo S40 because the driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

4400 block of 28th Place: Criminal citation -7 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

4500 block of 29th Street: Criminal citation -7:20 pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

2300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Traffic/warrant arrest – 8:30 pm. Officers stopped a Mitsubishi Gallant for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license. She also had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license. She was arrested and her vehicle was impounded.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
