Police Report: August 20

3200 block of Otis Street: At about 2 am officers responded for thereport of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that sheheard a loud crash and when she looked out the window she observed ablack Nissan Maxima with a rear spoiler speeding away from her vehicle.She immediately went out to check on her car and discovered that thefront passenger side window was smashed out and several items had beenstolen from inside. A check of area for additional evidence and/orwitnesses proved negative.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road (Joe's Carry-Out): At about 11:45 amofficers responded for the report of a commercial burglary.Investigation revealed that person(s) unknown made entry into thebusiness through a roof vent. Since no ladder or other scaling toolswere found it is believed that the suspect(s) climbed up to the roofusing the vent/duct work located on the outside rear wall. Once on theroof the suspect(s) removed the tin cover to a large vent and made goodtheir entry and subsequent theft. The business has no working alarm orvideo system that would have alerted authorities to the break-in. PGPDCID detectives were notified of the incident. The probable entry andexit areas were processed for latent evidence with negative results.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: At about 5:30 pm officers received acall from a female resident for unknown trouble at her residence. Whenthe officers arrived they spoke to the female and a male companion andlearned that the male subject had an open arrest warrant through the PGSheriff's Department. After confirming that the warrant was stillactive, the male subject was arrested without incident. He wasdelivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
