Police Report: August 25

At about 10 am officers working the "all hands on deck" operation observed a vehicle run a stop sign and stopped that vehicle at 32nd and Varnum Streets. The vehicle was driven by an individual MRPD officers have arrested several times in the past on various drug charges. Further investigation lead to a consent search of the vehicle. During the search the officers discovered over a quarter pound of marijuana (street value of approximately $2,300) in the trunk. The driver was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a CDS.

At about 2:15 pm officers working the "all hands on deck" operation attempted to stop and interview two suspicious individuals in a vehicle near the intersection of 30th Street and Arundel Road. As the officers walked up to the vehicle, the driver put the car gear and fled at a high rate of speed. The officers pursued the vehicle a short distance in an attempt to stop it. The vehicle finally stopped in the 3800 block of Allison Street in Brentwood when it collided with a brick wall and came to rest in a driveway. The driver bailed out of the car and tried to flee on foot, but the officers were able to catch him before he got away. During the brief foot chase the driver discarded a 9mm handgun which the officers recovered. The driver was arrested and will be charged with the illegal wear/carry of a firearm and other charges. At this time the passenger seems to have been an unwilling party to the events, but we are interviewing him to be certain before he is released.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
