Police Report: October 23-27

Friday October 23rd:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 12 pm officers observed an individual with an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was issued a criminal citation for the violation and sent on his way.

2700 block of Webster Street: At about 6:30 p.m. officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim told the officers that he was robbed at gun point while working in the parking lot area of the Kaywood Apartments. The victim described the gunman as wearing a mask, blue jeans and a green shirt and was armed with a gold semi automatic pistol. The victim last saw the gunman getting into a green Isuzu Rodeo which fled the area on Webster Street and turning right onto 28th Place. The Prince George's County Police were notified and the lookout information was shared with neighboring police agencies.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 9:30 p.m. officers responded for the report of an unattended death. A 65 year old man was discovered unresponsive in his apartment and was later pronounced dead by fire/rescue personnel. Family members reported that the deceased had suffered from several recent medical ailments. There were no signs of foul play and the decedent’s family doctor signed the death certificate. Representatives from the Fort Lincoln Funeral Home removed the body at the family's request.

Saturday October 24th:

Nothing significant to report.

Sunday October 25th:

3800 block of 34th Street: At about 2:10 a.m. officers stopped an individual for a field interview. During the interview the officers smelled the odor of PCP about his person. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of a glass bottle containing the illegal liquid. He was arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4600 block of 25th Street: At about 10:30 a.m. officers took a stolen auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that parked his green 2000 Lincoln Navigator (MD tag 17615M4) outside his residence at about 11:30 p.m. the night before. When he returned to for his vehicle this morning he discovered that it had been stolen. A canvass of the area for evidence and/or witnesses proved negative.

2700 block of Arundel Road: At about 6:30 p.m. officers issued each of two individuals criminal citations for violating the open alcohol container law. Both were sent on their way without further incident.

2700 block of Arundel Road: At about 6:55 p.m. officers issued an individual a criminal citation for violating the open alcohol container law. He was sent on his way without further incident.

Monday October 26th:

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 7:20 p.m. officers took a stolen car report. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night person(s) unknown stole her gold 1995 Nissan Maxima (MD tag 3EYH91). A canvass of the area for evidence and/or witnesses proved negative.

Tuesday October 27th:

3300 block of Buchanan Street: At about 10:45 a.m. officers took a report of a stolen Maryland temporary tag. The victim/owner told the officers that she parked her vehicle by her residence at about 5 p.m. the previous evening and when she returned to it this morning she discovered the temporary tag had been stolen. A canvass of the area for evidence and/or witnesses proved negative.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Party Time Liquors): At about 11:20 a.m. officers responded for an attempt fraud in progress. The officers spoke with a store cashier who told them that a woman came into the store and attempted to cash a check in the amount of $3,989.00. The cashier inquired with the bank on which the check was drawn and learned that it was counterfeit. The officers also contacted the bank and confirmed the information. The woman was arrested, charged appropriately and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Community Shredding Day

Please mark you calendars for Saturday July 18th, 2009 for community shredding day. Priority One Shredding of Bowie, Maryland will provide free personal shredding services and secure document destruction from 8 am until 11am at the Bunker Hill Fire Station. Priority One Shredding is a leading provider of personal and business secure document destruction. Residents are welcome to watch their documents being destroyed, and once the shredding process is completed, the remains are locked in the mobile destruction unit until the paper is recycled. Priority One will also provide residents with a variety of identity theft prevention information free of charge. If you miss the community shredding day on July 18th, be sure to bring your bulk documents to National Night Out. Priority One will be onsite from 6-9 pm providing shredding services to residents again, free of charge .

Parking Citation Collection Notices

As you read this entry, many of our residents may have received a collection notice regarding one or more unpaid parking citations. We have received at least a hundred telephone calls, and our Records staff is quite taxed sorting out those notices that were received in error, and those that are legitimate. Just a few notes of caution that I’d like to pass along to help make things easier for all concerned. First, no member of the police department staff will void, cancel or otherwise dispose of a valid collection notice. We are also not authorized to make any payment arrangements or reduce the amount owed to the City. The staff at City Hall is under the same constraints. Persons who receive a collection notice and have concerns that it was issued in error should call the police department during regular business hours and our staff will research the citation.
