Police Report: January 25-28

January 25th : 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1:30 p.m. a man surrendered to MRPD after learning that he had an open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on a charge of marijuana possession. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. January 26th : 2700 block of Allison Street : At about 2:30 P.M. officers arrested a man for burglary. The officers learned that a man had been evicted from the apartment last October by the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office. The man had forced his way back into the vacant apartment and moved some of his belongings inside. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:15 p.m. officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. Police Report: January 15-24

January 15th : 3200 block of Arundel Road : At about 12:30 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle for making an illegal left turn. The driver was found to be the sole occupant in the vehicle and only had a learner’s permit. He was issued three traffic citations and the vehicle was impounded. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 4:15 p.m. officers took a report from the owner/victim of a rental car that a 2006 Ford Fusion (MD tag 5ERL30) was stolen by the rental customer. 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 10:40 p.m. officers issued a criminal citation to an individual who was seen consuming an alcoholic beverage in public 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 11:45 p.m. officers took a report of an armed carjacking. Two victims were ordered out of their vehicle by two individuals one of whom was armed with a handgun. They were then robbed of their possessions and the vehicle (2008 Buick Lacrosse DC tag DE5076). Police Report: January 8-14

January 8th : 4000 block of 36th Street : At about 5:10 p.m. officers responded for the report of a domestic dispute. Mother asked that MRPD officers forcibly remove her juvenile son from the residence. When the officers explained to her that this was not possible, and told her what the proper procedures were she told them that she no longer needed their assistance. Approximately two hours later officers received a return call to the residence for a disorderly person. The officers discovered the mother outside yelling and refusing to calm down. She was eventually arrested for disorderly conduct and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10:15 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle for driving without headlights. When the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they noticed a strong odor of alcohol. The driver was asked to submit to a field sobriety exam. She submitted to the test and failed. The National Weather Service is predicting precipitation will begin falling throughout the Metro region this evening. Precipitation will begin as rain but will quickly turn to ice/freezing rain and perhaps some snow as temperatures drop below freezing later in the evening. Motorists are advised to: · Give themselves additional time Friday morning as roadways may be icy and traffic slow. · Take Metro as an option. · Telecommute if possible. · Drive with caution. · Stay far back from plows and spreaders so that drivers can see their vehicle. · Be patient and do not speed up to pass a working plow or spreader. This is dangerous to the snow crews and the motorist – stay behind at a safe distance. · Do not drive distracted. · Listen to media reports for weather updates. · Remember that driving on ice is significantly different than driving on snow. Haitian Earthquake Relief Fraud Alert

The FBI today reminds Internet users who receive appeals to donate money in the aftermath of Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti to apply a critical eye and do their due diligence before responding to those requests. Past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted individuals with criminal intent to solicit contributions purportedly for a charitable organization and/or a good cause. Therefore, before making a donation of any kind, consumers should adhere to certain guidelines, to include the following: Do not respond to any unsolicited (spam) incoming e-mails, including clicking links contained within those messages. Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites. Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by utilizing various Internet-based resources that may assist in confirming the group’s existence and its nonprofit status rather than following a purported link to the site. Police Report: January 1-7, 2010

January 1st 2010 : 37th and Perry Streets : At about 3:45 a.m. officers responded for the sound of shots. Upon arrival the officers searched the area and located a single shell casing in the 3700 block of 37th Street. A further search of the area for those responsible proved negative. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 11:50 a.m. officers responded for the report of a man acting irrationally and threatening to kill people. Once on the scene the officers observed the man to be irate and threatening to harm others in the apartment. He was patted down for officer safety purposes and was found to have a loaded handgun in his pants pocket. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of medical personnel at Washington Adventist Hospital for a psychological evaluation. 3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1 p.m. officers took a vandalism to auto report. Police Report: December 25-31

December 25th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station): At about 4:45 p.m. officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that she went inside the station to pay for her gas and when she returned to her vehicle she discovered her purse had been stolen. The station’s surveillance tapes showed that a black male wearing a reflective vest opened the unlocked passenger door and stole the purse. He then got into a dark colored station wagon and drove off. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative. December 26th: 1 Municipal Place : At about 12:40 a.m. officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that while sitting at the bus stop someone stole his wallet. He said that he felt a black male brush against the right side of his body and later discovered that his wallet was missing from his right pocket. December 19th : Nothing significant to report. December 20th : Nothing significant to report. December 21st : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 10:30 a.m. officers impounded a vehicle parked in the roadway impeding traffic. 4500 block of 30th Street : At about 3:15 p.m. officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision that occurred on December 19th. The investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle ran a stop sign striking a second vehicle which in turn struck a third vehicle. The vehicle that ran the stop sign fled the area and remains unidentified. December 22nd : 3800 block of 32nd Street : At about 9:35 a.m. officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that sometime during the evening/morning hours someone entered his vehicle, ransacked the interior and stole a portable audio device.
