Police Report: May 27-28

May 27th : 3700 block of 36th Street : At about 12:45 pm officers responded for the report of a strong arm robbery . The victim told the officers that he was in his driveway working on his vehicle when he was approached by two black males. One of the men immediately began to assault him while the second man stole his wallet. MRPD officers arrived while the robbery was still in progress and when the two suspects saw the officers pull up they immediately fled the scene on foot. The officers gave chase and were able to capture one of them (later identified as a 17 year old juvenile). The other suspect was able to make good his escape. The arrested juvenile was charged with robbery and other offenses and committed to the juvenile detention facility in Cheltenham. He was also questioned by PGPD detectives in an attempt to identify his accomplice but he refused to cooperate with investigators. Police Report: May 26

3200 block of Queenstown Drive : At about 8:45 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for trespassing. He was sent on his way without further incident. 4600 block of 29th Street : At about 6:15 pm officers responded for the report of a man with a knife . When they arrived they observed a man coming out of an apartment building with stab wounds to his neck and left arm. They also observed him to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. When the officers approached to assist him he became very verbally combative towards the officers and refused assistance. He greeted fire/rescue personnel with the same attitude and refused their assistance as well. Due to the nature of the man’s injuries he was taken into custody and transported to MedStar for treatment and an emergency psychological evaluation. 4000 block of 34th Street : At about 4:30 pm officers received a report of telephone harassment . The officers talked to the victim and she told them that her former boyfriend has been harassing her by phone. She was advised by the officers to seek a protective order from the District Court Commissioner’s office so the boyfriend could be ordered by the court to cease the harassment. 3100 block of Bunker Hill Road : At 1:15 am officers received a call to serve a District Court protective order . The officers were unable to locate the subject of the order. 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 2 am officers investigated a hit and run motor vehicle crash . The officers learned that a legally parked Nissan Altima was struck by a 1996 Lincoln with Maryland tags 89FBY89. The Lincoln failed to remain at the scene of the crash and fled into DC. Police Report: May 24

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 9 am officers took a report of a theft . The business owner told the officers that someone stole a battery out of one of his vehicles. The owner said that he was unaware of when the theft occurred. 3700 block of Wells Avenue : At about 11:40 am officers responded for the report of an assault . The officers spoke with the victim who told them that a black male in his late 20’s arrived at her place of business and asked if there was any work available. The man then forced his way into the business and grabbed the employee. The employee defended herself and stabbed her attacker with a work tool forcing him to flee the scene. The victim described her attacker as having a round face, stocky build, with a sleeve length tattoo on his right arm and carrying a light blue and black backpack. Police Report: May 19-23

May 19th : 4200 block of 34th Street : At about 9:50 am officers were notified by the Metropolitan Police Department that a vehicle stolen from the 4200 block of 34th Street on December 24, 2009 was recovered in the 6000 block of Georgia Avenue N.W. The vehicle was recovered in good condition and no arrests were made. May 20th : 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : At about 9:10 am officers responded to a report of a citizen armed robbery . The victim, an UTZ Potato Chips delivery driver, told the officers that he was on the process of making his normal delivery to the 7-11when a black male in his mid 20’s jumped in his truck, pointed a hand gun at him and demanded his money. After the victim complied and the suspect then fled on foot to a waiting getaway car described as a green 90’s model Acura TL. A search of the area for the suspect and his vehicle proved negative. 3400 block of Upshur Street : At about 8:45 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The victims told the officers that they were away on vacation for a few days. When they returned they discovered that two vehicles on their property had their door locks damaged. The officers’ determined that someone attempted to gain entry into both vehicles without success. Nothing was taken from either vehicle and no evidence was recovered. 3700 block of 34th Street : At about 11:15 am officers stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing his seatbelt . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. He was issued several traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded. 4600 block of 30th Street : At about 9:30 pm officers attempted to stop two suspicious individuals for a field interview. Police Report: May 14-17

May 14th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 10:15 pm officers responded to assist Queenstown security officers with an intoxicated female . When the officers arrived they determined that the woman was driving under the influence of alcoholic and struck a parked vehicle. During questioning she became uncooperative and was placed under arrest. She continued her uncooperative behavior and assaulted one of the officers. In order to safely transport her to DOC for processing a Riverdale Park Police vehicle equipped with a prisoner containment module responded to assist. Once inside the RPPD vehicle the woman became violent and succeeded in kicking out one of the vehicle’s windows. She was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville charged with numerous offenses including assault on a police officer and destruction of property. Police Report: May 13

3300 block of Chauncey Place : At about 11:50 pm officers responded for the report of an attempted robbery/contact shooting . The victim told the officers that he was walking to his apartment when he was approached by a black male with a thin build and braided hair wearing all black clothing. The man displayed a silver handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. When the victim refused the suspect shot him once in the right knee and immediately fled on foot towards Chillum Road. Fire/rescue personnel transported the victim to Prince George’s Hospital for treatment. A lengthy canvass of the area for the suspect proved negative. PGPD robbery detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. The suspect in this case had a similar description to a man who robbed a woman with a silver handgun in the 4600 block of 25th Street in the early morning hours of May 9th. Police Report: May 12

3700 block of 35th Street : At about 3:50 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that her credit card was used to make several purchases in places to which she has never been. She was issued a case number for documentation purposes and her credit card issuer will follow-up further. 4000 block of 30th Street : At about 5:50 pm officers responded for a residential burglary that occurred earlier. The victim told the officers that he returned home from work to find the side door of his residence open and several items of his personal property missing. The officers’ investigation revealed to distinct point of entry into the residence and no evidence was recovered from the home. A canvass of the area failed to identify any witnesses to the crime.

Police Report May 6: UPDATE

During the early morning hours of May 6th a man was severely beaten during a home invasion in the 3200 block of Queenstown Drive. I am pleased to report that he has been released from the hospital and is back home continuing his recovery.

Police Report: May 11

3400 block of Otis Street : At about 11:00 am officers received a call for an abandon blue Honda Accord. A check of the vehicle revealed that it had been stolen from an address in Prince George’s County. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the owner was notified of the recovery. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim told the officers that he came home to find that someone had broken into his apartment by prying open the front door. Once inside they stole the victim’s safe and fled the apartment. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses could be located. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10 pm officers took a report of a citizen strong armed robbery . The victim told the officers that she walked home from the West Hyattsville Metro Station. When she arrived at her apartment she was approached by an Hispanic male who asked her for the time. 3200 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 10:00 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim/owner told the officers that she parked her 2008 Subaru Outback (MD tags 610993CA) near her residence the night before. When she returned to her vehicle this morning she discovered that it was unlocked and several items of her property were missing. No point of entry was apparent and no evidence or witnesses could be located. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 3:30 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that sometime between April 29th and April 30th someone used her credit card to make several withdrawals from the ATM machine at the Varnum Street 7-11 without her knowledge or permission. The victim was issued a case number for documentation purposes and referred to her credit card company for follow-up investigation. 3800 block of 38th Street : At about 8 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Police Report: May 7-9

May 7th : 3700 block of 37th Street : At about 7:50 am officers took a stolen car report. The victim/owner told the responding officers that she parked her 2009 Toyota Corolla (DC tags DD3964) by her residence the previous evening. When she went out to go to work this morning she discovered that it had been stolen. There was no evidence as to those responsible at the scene of the theft. 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:50 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. May 8th : 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 1 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 3:30 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for driving on a suspended license. He was arrested on the warrant, issued several traffic

Police Report: May 6

4200 block of 28th Street : At about 8 am officers took a stolen auto report. The victim/owner told the officers that she parked her 2000 Dodge Intrepid (MD tag BFPJ67) by her residence the previous night and when she returned for it this morning she discovered that it had been stolen. No evidence or witnesses to the crime could be located.

Police Report: May 4-6

May 4th : 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 7:10 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim/owner showed the officers where someone was able to get into her 1994 Honda Accord and steal the car’s stereo. The officers found no clear point of entry into the car and no additional evidence or witnesses could be found. 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 10 am an individual came into the police station to surrender on an open arrest warrant issued by the DC court system. The warrant was confirmed through DC and he was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville without incident. May 5th : 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 12:20 am officers responded for the report of a citizen robbery . The female victim told the officers that she and her boyfriend were robbed at gunpoint while standing outside talking with one another. May 3rd : 3400 block of Newton Street : At about 7 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious vehicle . Once on the scene they located the vehicle in question and found it to be unoccupied. The vehicle was not reported stolen but it had no tags and was not currently registered. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. 2900 block of Bunker Hill Road : At about 7:15 am officers responded for the report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers that he was at the bus stop waiting for the metro bus when a small green sedan (NFD) pulled up and one of the occupants told him to come over to the car. When the victim refused the rear driver’s side passenger got out of the vehicle and announced a robbery. The suspect (described as a black male, 17-19 years of age, about 5’9” tall with dreadlock style hair and wearing all black clothing) implied that he had a gun in his waistband area but never displayed a weapon. Police Report: April 30 - May 2

April 30th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 10:30 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for consuming an alcoholic beverage in public. May 1st : 38th and Perry Streets : At about 2 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. When the officers approached the vehicle they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Upon further investigation the officers seized a clear zip lock bag containing 11.8 grams of marijuana that was located in the glove compartment. The driver was arrested, charged with possession of a CDS and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Perry Street : At about 1:55 pm officers received a call for a residential alarm . When the officers arrived they discovered an unsecure door and requested the assistance of the Hyattsville City Police in conducting a search of the residence. The search was negative and officers determined that the alarm resulted from the door being left unsecured accidentally. M
