Police Report: May 19-23

May 19th:

4200 block of 34th Street: At about 9:50 am officers were notified by the Metropolitan Police Department that a vehicle stolen from the 4200 block of 34th Street on December 24, 2009 was recovered in the 6000 block of Georgia Avenue N.W. The vehicle was recovered in good condition and no arrests were made.

May 20th:

2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11): At about 9:10 am officers responded to a report of a citizen armed robbery. The victim, an UTZ Potato Chips delivery driver, told the officers that he was on the process of making his normal delivery to the 7-11when a black male in his mid 20’s jumped in his truck, pointed a hand gun at him and demanded his money. After the victim complied and the suspect then fled on foot to a waiting getaway car described as a green 90’s model Acura TL. A search of the area for the suspect and his vehicle proved negative.

May 21st:

2400 block of Chillum Road: At about 2 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The officers asked for and received the driver’s consent to search the vehicle for contraband. During the search the officers discovered a large clear plastic bag in the glove box containing 11.3 grams of marijuana. Both the driver and a passenger were arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

2400 block of Varnum Street: At about 11:20 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was sent on his way without further incident.

May 22nd:

3800 block of 33rd Street: At about 1 am officers issued a man a criminal citation for possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. He was sent on his way without further incident.

3300 block of Otis Street: At about 3:30 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner of black 2000 Isuzu Redo told the officers that when he went out to use his vehicle he discovered where someone had scratched it in several places. A canvass of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: At about 8:30 pm officers issued two men criminal citations for possession of open containers of an alcoholic beverage. Both were sent on their way without further incident.

May 23rd:

3800 block of 34th Street: At about 2:15 pm officers took reports of vandalism and thefts from auto involving six (6) vehicles who were parked in a parking lot off 34th Street while their owners were attending a church service. All six cases involved perpetrators who smashed out one of the vehicles’ windows. Four of the vehicles sustained only damage to the windows. In two cases items of personal property were stolen from inside. No evidence or witnesses could be located.

3400 block of Bunker Hill Road: At about 5 pm officers responded to a report of a citizen robbery. The officers met with the two female victims who told them that they were walking to their vehicle when they were approached by two black males who they described as 16-20 years of age, light skinned and wearing all black clothing. Both males implied that they had handguns and demanded the victims’ purses. Both victims complied and the two suspects were last seen fleeing the area in a late model gray pickup truck.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage.
