Police Report: September 10-12

September 10th:

4000 block of 33rd Street: At about 2 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The owner of a 1977 Olds Delta 88 told the officers that when she came out to her vehicle she found that it had been scratched. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

3600 block of Bunker Hill Road: At about 8 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As the officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Further investigation revealed that both the driver and a passenger were in possession of the illegal substance. The two were arrested, charged with CDS possession and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

2300 block of Varnum Street: At about 11:45 pm officers stopped a man for a field interview. During the interview they discovered that the man had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for CDS possession. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

September 11th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 8 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner of a 1998 Ford van (Maryland tags 40V227) told the officers that he parked his van on Rhode Island Avenue at about 10:30 pm the night before and when he returned to it this morning he discovered that it had been stolen. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: At about 11:30 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone stole her 1996 Honda Accord (Georgia tags BLR6770). The officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle at 31st and Upshur Streets with only the ignition damaged. The victim was notified of the recovery.

4500 block of 31st Street: At about 11:30 pm officers responded for the report of a vehicle possibly trying to flee after striking a parked vehicle. When the officers arrived they found a 2005 Chevy truck with front end damage as the result of striking a parked car. When the officers interviewed the driver they smelled an odor of alcohol coming from his person. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was transported to the University of Maryland PD for a breathalyzer test. The results of the test showed he had a BAC of .16, twice the legal limit. He was charged with DWI/DUI and released.

September 12th:

4200 block of Rainier Avenue: At about 10:30 am officers took a report of a stolen auto. The owner of a 1987 Toyota Camry (Maryland tags 6FFP61) told the officers that her car was stolen from in front of her residence sometime between 3 am and 9 am. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

4300 block of Kaywood Drive: At about 5 pm officers took a report of an assault. The complainant told the officers that she and her uncle became involved in physical altercation over money. The complainant said that her uncle stole an envelope containing $500 in cash and that led to the altercation. Family members were called to intervene and the uncle returned $200 of the cash. All parties were advised of their options with a court commissioner.

4400 block 29th Street: At about 6:20 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that someone entered her unlocked 2004 Toyota Corolla and stole several items of her personal property. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 9:50 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that someone entered her unlocked 1993 Nissan Maxima and stole her purse. No evidence/witnesses could be located.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage.
