Police Report: September 8-9

September 8th:

4100 block of 29th Street: At about 9:30 am officers took a report of a stolen Maryland license plate. The victim told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone stole the rear tag off her 2000 Ford F150 truck. No evidence or witnesses could be located.

2800 block of Taylor Street: At about 1:45 pm officers responded for the report of shots fired. When the officers arrived they discovered a single bullet hole in the basement window of a private residence. Several witnesses were interviewed who said that they saw a black vehicle, possibly a Nissan Maxima, speed away from the area after they heard the shot. The occupant of the residence was interviewed, and based on the witnesses’ vehicle description identified two suspects for follow-up investigation. PGPD detectives responded to the scene and are handling the follow-up.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: At about 5 pm took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that he parked his 1998 VW Jetta by his residence at about 8 am on September 8th. When he returned for his car this evening he discovered that someone had stolen the registration stickers off the rear tag. No evidence or witnesses could be located.

Buchanan Street and Chillum Road: At about 6 pm officers took a report of a citizen robbery. The victim told the officers that he was approached by four Hispanic males. One of the men grabbed the victim’s iTouch and refused to give it back. When the victim tried to take the item back the other three men began to kick and punch him. After the assault the four men fled the area in an unknown direction. The victim told the officers that he recognized two of the men who attacked and robbed him and that information will likely assist detectives in charging them with the crime. The victim was taken to Prince George’s Hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained during the assault.

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 10:30 pm officers responded for the report of three men loitering and panhandling in the 7-11 parking lot. Further investigation revealed that one of the men was in possession of a glass stem used for ingesting CDS. He was issued a criminal citation for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and all three men were sent on their way.

September 9th (early morning):

3300 block of Chillum Road: At about 12:15 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. When they approached the vehicle to speak with the driver they saw several open containers of alcoholic beverages on the rear passenger seat. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for that crime. He was taken to the Maryland State Police barracks in College Park for a breathalyzer exam. The test revealed that he had a BAC of .13.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
