Police Report: October 18-20

October 18th:

4100 block of 29th Street: At about 10:40 am officers took a report of an attempted burglary. The victim showed the officers where someone used some sort of pry tool in an attempt to open her front door. No entry was made into the residence and nothing was reported missing. The victim told the officers the only thing suspicious that occurred recently was on October 15th when two Hispanic males came to her house soliciting work. No definite connection could be made between these two men and the attempted burglary.

October 19th:

40000 block of 36th Street: At about 9:30 am officers responded for the report of a tree down. The officers found where a very large tree had fallen causing damage to the surrounding neighbors’ yards and property. The house and property on which the tree had originally grown is vacant and attempts to contact the property owner were negative.

3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue: At about 12:45 pm officers took a report of lost property. The reporting person told the officers that he walked out of Crown Insurance and noticed his front tag missing. The complainant wasn’t sure if the tag fell off or was stolen. He was advised to contact MVA for replacement tags.

October 20th (early morning):

4000 block of 34th Street: At about 6:30 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim/owner told the officers that when he came out to his 2001 Toyota Avalon he discovered that someone had broken out one of his windows. Nothing was stolen from inside the vehicle and there was no evidence to suggest that those responsible were trying to steal the car.

Crime Prevention Tip: Car Alarms

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone tries to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, within a few se...
