Barricade Incident

Just before Noon this afternoon officers from the Metro Transit Police Department stopped a vehicle for a tag violation. While a Metro Transit officer was issuing the driver a citation the driver got back into his car and attempted to strike the officer with the car as he fled the scene. Metro officers tracked the man to an address in the 3800 block of 32nd Street where he barricaded himself inside the house. Metro PD set up a perimeter in the surrounding blocks and called their emergency services team to the scene to prepare for a possible forced entry into the house.

Once the perimeter was established MRPD officers responded, assessed the situation and took the lead in resolving the incident. MRPD officers were able to reach the suspect by phone and, after about 45 minutes were able to get the suspect to come out of the house and surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody and turned over to Metro PD for charges and processing.

I would like to thank Metro PD Captain Warren Donald and LT L.M. Biggs and their officers for their professionalism and cooperation in bringing this incident to a peaceful resolution.

And thank you to the Mt. Rainier Police Department for helping the individual with such poor judgment to come to a peaceful resolution of the incident! Sounds like he has a lot of "issues."
