At about 6 am this morning an off-duty Mount Rainier Police officer was involved in a shooting in the Town of Capitol Heights, Maryland. The officer was apparently the victim of an attempted carjacking and fired his service weapon to defend himself against the attack. The suspect was struck multiple times in the upper body and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The officer was also transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the attack. The Prince George’s County Police Department is handling the investigation.
