Police Report: April 22-28

April 28 th : Arundel Road and 31 st Street : Found property – 8:30am. Officers on patrol found a Maryland license plate “2AE4091” in the roadway. The tag had not been reported lost or stolen at the time it was found. The tag was delivered to the MRPD property vault for safekeeping. 4100 block of 28 th Street : Stolen motorcycle – 2:30pm. The owner of a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle reported that sometime between 10:30am on April 27 th and 12:30pm today someone stole his motorcycle off his rear deck. The victim said that the bike had been parked with a wheel lock attached. April 27 th : 4000 block of 36 th Street : Theft – 12:45pm. The victim told officers that sometime between April 25 th at 11am and the time he called police someone stole a heater pump valued at approximately $3,000. 3200 block of Perry Street : Vandalism – 3:15pm. National Drug Take Back Initiative

The Mount Rainier Police Department continues its support of and participation in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take Back Initiative which takes place this Saturday, April 28 th between the hours of 10am and 2pm. Residents can bring their old, unused or unwanted prescription and over the counter medications to the police station for safe disposal. Please take this opportunity to help our environment by safely disposing of these medications rather than discarding them into our water supplies and landfills.

PEPCO Utility Pole Replacements

PEPCO has advised the City that they will be working for the next 6-8 months on replacing old and rotten utility poles on every street in the southern region of the City (i.e., Bunker Hill Road to Arundel Road). This project is being undertaken due to what PEPCO describes as poor feeder performance (an unacceptable 2%) and because of numerous power outages during inclement weather events. Residents will be notified 12-48 hours prior to any scheduled disruption in service.   The work is scheduled for 12 hour shifts Monday-Wednesday, 1/2 day on Thursday, and no work is scheduled on Friday. Affected residents with concerns or complaints should contact either the City Manager or the Assistant City Manager who will in turn contact our PEPCO representatives.

Police Report: April 15-21

April 21 st : 2700 block of Upshur Street : 1 st degree assault – 12:55am. The victim told officers that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend at an address in DC. She drove to a relative’s house on Upshur Street to notify police. The suspect followed the victim to Upshur Street and assaulted her a second time as she was trying to leave in her vehicle. The officers were able to locate the suspect who fled from them, on foot, back into DC. The officers were able to apprehend the suspect and he was turned over to MPD officers who charged him as a fugitive from justice. MRPD officers obtained an arrest warrant for the man charging him with 1 st degree assault and other crimes. The process to have the man extradited back to Maryland has begun. 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : CDS possession – 2:20pm. Police Report: April 8-14

April 14 th : 3200 block of Perry Street : Vandalism – 12pm. Officers spoke to the resident who told them that sometime between the morning of April 12 th and the time she called police someone painted a message threatening her son on her back fence. The message appeared to be related to local “3131” gang members. The PGPD Gang Unit is assisting MRPD with the investigation. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Robbery – 1:25pm. Officers responded for the report of a panic alarm at the Beauty Depot. When the officers arrived they spoke with a cashier who said that she had just been robbed at gunpoint. She said that a man who she could not describe walked up to the counter, displayed a handgun and demanded the contents of the cash register. She complied with his demand and he walked out of the store and fled in an unknown direction. The store’s video surveillance system provided no useful information about the suspect’s identity. Police Report: April 1-7

April 7 th : 3700 block of 37 th Street : DWI – 1am. Officers stopped a 1993 Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with DWI/DUI. Her vehicle was released to a licensed, sober driver. 3300 block of Bunker Hill Road : Vehicle impound – 9:30am. Officers on patrol came upon a Chrysler 300 with heavy front end damage and keys in the ignition. The vehicle had not been reported stolen and the owner could not be contacted. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. April 6 th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : Theft from auto – 1am. The owner of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser reported that when she left her vehicle unlocked with her purse inside when she went in to pay for gas. Police Report: March 25-31

March 31 st : One Municipal Place : Citizen robbery – 2:30pm. The victim told officers that as he was walking toward the B2 bus he was attacked by two men who assaulted him and took his book bag. After the assault the two suspects fled down 35 th Street towards Otis. A search of the area for the two suspects proved negative. Fire/rescue personnel responded and treated the victim for his minor injuries, after which he refused transportation to a hospital for treatment. Metro Transit Police were called to the scene but were unable to speak with the victim since he had left the area prior to Metro’s arrival. Metro PD took over the investigation. March 30 th : 3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11) : Theft – 2am. Store clerks told officers that a black male described as 40-45 years of age, approximately 5’10” tall and 200lbs entered the store, went behind the sales counter, stole 35 packs of Newport cigarettes, then fled the store on foot in an unknown direction.
