April 28th:
Arundel Road and 31st Street: Found property – 8:30am. Officers on patrol found a Maryland license plate “2AE4091” in the roadway. The tag had not been reported lost or stolen at the time it was found. The tag was delivered to the MRPD property vault for safekeeping.
4100 block of 28th Street: Stolen motorcycle – 2:30pm. The owner of a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle reported that sometime between 10:30am on April 27th and 12:30pm today someone stole his motorcycle off his rear deck. The victim said that the bike had been parked with a wheel lock attached.
April 27th:
4000 block of 36th Street: Theft – 12:45pm. The victim told officers that sometime between April 25th at 11am and the time he called police someone stole a heater pump valued at approximately $3,000.
3200 block of Perry Street: Vandalism – 3:15pm. The resident told officers that sometime this morning someone spray painted the words “MOE 3131” on his rear fence.
32nd and Upshur Streets: Found property – 4:50pm. Officers met with a citizen who turned in a Ziploc bag containing a laptop computer they found near the intersection. Officers took custody of the computer for safekeeping. A check of NCIC stolen article files revealed that the computer had not been reported lost or stolen.
3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 11:20pm. Officers conducting parking enforcement were accosted by a man who began yelling at them to stop writing parking tickets and do some real police work. After the man refused to move on after several requests to do so he was stopped for a field interview. During the interview the officers learned that he had three open arrest warrants through Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving without a license; and for possession with intent to distribute a CDS. He was arrested on the open warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
April 26th:
3600 block of Perry Street: Warrant service – 9pm. On April 20th officers transported a man under the influence of PCP to Washington Adventist Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Officers subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for the man charging him with disorderly conduct and other offenses. At about 9pm tonight officers on patrol located the man and arrested him on the warrant. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
3800 block of 34th Street: Theft – 10:35pm. Officers spoke with an employee of the laundromat and learned that at about 10am she checked the coin and bill compartments of the washing machines and discovered that they were empty. Officers were unable to find any damage to the machines. The reporting person stated that she is the only one other than the property manager that has the keys to the money compartments.
Russell Avenue and Eastern Avenue: Vehicle impound – 3:25pm. Officers impounded a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer for display of improper tags. Officers handling the impound also learned that the vehicle’s registration was suspended and there was an MVA pickup order on the tags.
3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Mount Rainier Post Office): Armed robbery – 5:50pm. Officers responded for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. A postal employee told the officers that he was unloading a postal truck in the rear parking lot when he was approached by two armed men who demanded the “money drop bags.” The employee told his assailants where the bags were located. The suspects took the bags and fled the area on foot down 37th Place and then right on Perry Street. A search of the area for the two suspects proved negative. U.S. Postal Inspectors handled the incident and are leading the investigation. The suspects were described as black males wearing all dark clothing with bandanas covering their faces. Both were armed with handguns.
3300 block of Chillum Road (7-11): Theft – 9:40pm. Officers responded for the report of a misdemeanor theft. The store clerk told the officers that an individual came into the store, grabbed several food items off the shelves and fled the store without paying for the items. Officers discovered that the thief came to the store on a bicycle but left it behind when he fled with the stolen goods. Officers seized the bike for evidence and while they were taking it to the police station for storage two individuals that were with the first suspect came into the store and stole several packs of cigarettes. Those two then fled on foot to the rear of the store. All three suspects were described as black males, 20-25 years of age wearing all dark clothing. One of them was described as having a long braided hair style.
3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 11:45pm. Officers issued a woman a criminal citation for urinating in public.
April 25th:
3500 block of 32nd Street: Vandalism to auto – 7:10am. The owner of a 2006 Hyundai Sonata told officers that sometime between 9:30pm on April 24th and the time she called police this morning someone had broken out a window on her vehicle and rummaged through the interior. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
3200 block of Upshur Street: Vandalism to auto – 8:20am. The owner of a 2007 Toyota Prius told officers that sometime between 7pm on April 24th and the time he called police this morning someone had broken out a window on his vehicle and rummaged through the interior. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 7:05pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place.
2400 block of Arundel Road: Assist fire/rescue personnel – 10:25pm. MRPD officers assisted fire/rescue with the forced entry into a third floor apartment. Smoke was coming from inside the apartment and no one was home. Entry was made and the source of the smoke was found to be food on the stove.
April 24th:
4600 block of 25th Street: Vehicle impound – 9:05am. MRPD officers impounded a 1996 Dodge Stratus for failure to display registration plates while parked on a City street.
3700 block of Wells Avenue: Criminal citation (x2) – 3:40pm. Officers issued two men criminal citations for trespassing on CSX railroad property.
April 23rd:
2700 block of Upshur Street: Vandalism to auto – 2:45pm. The owner of a 2004 Cadillac told officers that he observed his passenger side window broken out and a light blue Town and Country van bearing a partial Pennsylvania tag of HSX parked on the passenger side of his Cadillac. When the driver and the passenger in the van made eye contact with the victim they immediately fled the area. Their last known direction of travel was westbound on Eastern Avenue. Nothing was stolen from inside the victim’s vehicle, however the passenger side window had been smashed out and there was damage to the dashboard.
3700 block of 36th Street: Burglary – 7:45pm. The resident told officers that when he returned home at about 6pm he unlocked the dead bolt on the front door, went inside and noticed that his bedroom door was broken. When he checked the bedroom he discovered that a quantity of US currency had been stolen. (V) Entered the bedroom and noticed that $2200.00 was missing. Officers were unable to determine how the thieves got into the residence since all doors and windows were secure. No evidence was recovered.
3800 block of 34th Street: Warrant service – 10pm. Officers stopped to investigate a suspicious individual. Further investigation revealed that the man had two open arrest warrants through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office, both for failing to appear in court on traffic related charges. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.
April 22nd:
3249 Rhode Island Avenue: Found property – 10:25pm. Officers were flagged down by a concerned citizen who had found a girl’s Disney Huffy bike at the corner of 34th Street and Rhode Island Ave. Officers stored the bike at the police station for safekeeping.
