Police Report: June 17-23

June 23rd:
29th Street and Arundel Road: Traffic – 6:40am. Officers stopped a 2012 Dodge Avenger for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. He was issued four traffic citations and released at the scene. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Theft from auto – 7:25pm. The owner of a 2006 Toyota Matrix reported that while she was inside the PG Pool someone entered her vehicle and stole her wallet.

3300 block of Buchanan Street: Traffic – 8:05pm. Officers stopped a 2002 Dodge caravan for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s tags were suspended and there was an MVA pick order for the tags. The driver did not have a license and he was issued four traffic citations and released at the scene. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and the tags were seized for return to MVA.

June 22nd:

3800 block of 32nd Street: Theft – 8:30am. The owner of a 26” Trak 7000 bicycle told officers that sometime between 11pm on the 21st and 8:30 this morning someone stole his bike. He said that he had left the bike on his front porch, unsecured, overnight.

3300 block of Perry Street: Criminal citation – 9:05am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

2200 block of Varnum Street: Criminal citation – 10:40am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

June 21st:

30TH Street and Queens Chapel Road: Traffic – 12:05am. Officers stopped a 2000 Honda Civic for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license. He was issued several traffic citations and his vehicle was impounded.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 12:20am. Officers stopped a 1998 Pontiac for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving an uninsured motor vehicle. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3200 block of Chillum Road: DWI – 12:20am. While enroute to a call for service officers observed a man urinating in public. After they completed the call they returned to where they had seen the man urinating and found him passed out behind the wheel of a Chevy truck. Further investigation revealed that the man was highly intoxicated. He was unable to complete standard field sobriety tests and registered a BAC of .21 on a preliminary breath test. After he refused to submit to further BAC testing he was arrested, charged with DWI/DUI and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. He was also issued a criminal citation for urinating in public.

4500 block of 32nd Street: Burglary – 12:30pm. Officers responded for the report of a residential burglary at a vacant house. Further investigation revealed that person(s) unknown broke into the garage and stole several items including a lawn mower and stereo speakers. Due to the deteriorated condition of the property the scene was not processed for evidence.

4300 block of 28th Place: Vandalism to auto – 6:45pm. The owner of a 2011 Toyota Camry told officers that sometime prior to her call to police someone dented the rear passenger side quarter panel of her vehicle. The damage was inconsistent with a motor vehicle collision and it appeared someone had kicked the quarter panel.

June 20th:

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Warrant service – 12:20am. Officers stopped a 1998 Buick for
a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant through the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft charge. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The driver was issued three traffic citations and sent on his way.

3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 4am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation (X2) – 4am. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As they approached the vehicle they saw the front seat passenger throw an object out of the window. Officers retrieved the object and discovered it to be a crack pipe with fresh traces of burnt cocaine. A search of the vehicle revealed three more glass crack pipes under the driver’s side floor mat. Both occupants were issued criminal citations for possession of CDS paraphernalia. The driver was issued a traffic citation for driving on a suspended Virginia license. The vehicle was impounded.

4500 block of Perry Street: Missing person located – 9:35pm. The male juvenile reported missing on June 13th was located safe and in good health. .  After being interviewed it was determined that the juvenile fits the criteria of a Child In Need Of Supervision (CINS). He was released to his mother without further incident.

4600 block of 30th Street: Vehicle impound – 12:30pm. Officers patrolling with a mobile license plate reader discovered a vehicle displaying suspended Maryland tags. The tags were suspended because of a compulsory insurance violation and there was an MVA pick-up order on the tags. The tags were seized for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded.

4500 block of 30th Street: Theft from auto – 1:45pm. The owner of a Chevy Trailblazer told officers that sometime prior to his call to police someone entered his unsecured vehicle and stole several items of his personal property. There was no damage to the vehicle.

3200 block of Perry Street: Death report – 4:15pm. Officers were called to a private residence for the report of an unresponsive male. When they arrived they located the man in a bathroom shower. Evidence showed that he had passed away at least 24 hours prior to his body being discovered. There were no signs of foul play and it appears that death resulted from natural causes. The State Medical Examiner had the decedent’s remains transported to Baltimore for a post mortem examination.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Strong arm robbery – 8:30pm. The victim told officers that he was approached by four black males, one of whom asked to use his cell phone. Before the victim could respond the man struck him in the face knocking him to the ground. Once the victim was incapacitated the other three suspects assaulted him, went through his pockets and stole his cell phone. The four then fled the scene in an unknown direction. PGPD robbery detectives responded to the scene and began their follow-up investigation. The suspects were described as follows:
Suspect #1: B/M, 6’00”, 200 lbs, 19 years old, heavy set, shaved head, white shirt, blue jeans
Suspect #2: B/M, 5’06-5’09”, 155 lbs, 19 years old, goatee, white shirt, khakis
Suspect #3: B/M, 5’06-5’09”, 19 years old, thin build, short hair, stubble
Suspect #4: B/M, 5’06-5’09”, 19 years old, thin build

June 19th:

2300 block of Varnum Street: Vandalism – 9:20am. Officers responded for the report of a shattered store front window. When the officers arrived they met the proprietor and assisted her in locating a vendor to replace the shattered window.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Trespassing – 8:55pm. Officers responded for a report by the store owner of several individuals loitering outside the store bothering customers. When the officers arrived the group began to disburse. Officers recognized one of the individuals, a juvenile, who had been previously barred from the property. He was arrested and charged with trespassing via a juvenile petition and released to a parent.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Tampering – 10:05pm. Officers patrolling the area observed a juvenile who was attempting to break into a 1995 BMW. Further investigation revealed that the juvenile had been previously barred from the property by Queenstown management. He was arrested, charged with tampering and trespassing and released to the custody of his grandparents pending Juvenile Court action.

June 18th:

3700 block of 36th Street: Emergency petition – 8:15pm. Officers responded for the report of a woman acting violently who family members said had not taken her schizophrenia medication and had not eaten in 5 days. Officers found the woman in the violent state described by her family. Fire/rescue personnel were summoned and they transported her to Washington Adventist Hospital for medical treatment.

37th and Otis Streets: Warrant service – 11pm. Officers on patrol ran a wanted check on an individual they observed loitering in the area. The wanted check revealed that the man had two open arrest warrants through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on charges of possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Party Time Liquors): Theft – 11:15pm. A store employee told officers that a man came into the store and stole several miniature bottles of wine.  The man fled the store before employees could get a description of him.

June 17th:

4300 block of Russell Avenue: Vehicle impound – 9am. Officers on patrol discovered that the tags displayed on a 1996 Subaru Impreza were suspended for failure to comply with required emissions testing. Complicating the situation was the fact that the tags did not belong on the Subaru at all but were listed to a Mercedes. The tags were seized and the vehicle was impounded.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: Recovered stolen auto – 2:25pm. Officers responded for the report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived they found the vehicle in question, a 2004 VW Jetta. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County back on May 17th. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping and PGPD was notified of the recovery.

These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
